County & Station Hotel, Matlock Bath

We happened to drop in on this hotel The County and Station Hotel, Matlock Bath because the brassiere next door was closed.

Unprepossesing both inside and out with a standard menu which didn't impress, it looked like an old temperance hotel.

Yet we ordered one of the specials which was game pie and it was absolutely delicious. The meal was one of the best I had had eating out for many a year. The food was locally sourced and almost entirely made on the premises. The price was surprisingly low.

If you are more concerned about food than ambiance this should be a definite must if you are in the area. I shall be planning my holiday to allow me to eat here each evening.
