★★★★★

written by George. on 21/08/2002

Bought the Ericsson R320 mobile phone to upgrade from 2618s and have the advantage of infra-red with portable pc on the cheap. Only disadvantage - at the time - was that I had to take a contract with a particular network instead of using a pre-pay card ... but am now also able to call from abroad ... Only at one time since I have had it - about a year - have I had to remove the SIM card and re-insert it. Other than that no problem.

The phone died after 10 months - dead ! Ericsson changed the keyboard and other internal items, due to a known short cirtuit/resistance (electrical) fault which is known of by their engineers ....
I did buy another one, because it is the cheapest infra red that I have found that works well with my computer ...

The Ericsson R320 mobile phone is good. I have had my 320 for 2 years. the 320's original software - rubbish - but after my fone was repaired i have never had any problems. The reception is the best. The stand by time is pretty good (3 days).

In two years this Ericsson R320s is my 4th mobile phone i had after Siemens S6, Motorola D 52o, Nokia 7110. All these phones were good in something but my R320s has all these good features in one.
I must learn, like at school, the phones features for some weeks and i like this very much. What i liked especially is it`s speed of connecting voice calls, mesages, WAP services.

So I get my dream phone (look at the good points) and I tryed to ignore the bad points. But after using it for a month (less than 1 hour call time) the phone went off and stayed off, of course in the worst situation possible, during hollidays when I was unreachable for friends and family. Got the phone fixed (not replaced!!! I was disappointed on this - it was not a cheap phone so I expected a replace), the operation took a month, and I returned to my old SH 888.

★★★★★

written by Sorin. on 16/12/2001

No doubt about it-the Ericsson R320 is the best phone in it's price range. Very easy to use, good battery (gives ~ 4 days standby with standard batery), lots of utilities: clock, alarm, timer, WAP browser, calendar/appointments - all of these much easier to use if you have a PDA (I use to write everything (appointments, phone numbers, SMS) in my Visor Deluxe and quickly transfer them in my phone so I never miss my alarms.
I am looking forward to the R380 and especially I wonder what the new Sony Ericsson joint-venture will bring (Sony is another great PalmOS device manufacturer)!

“The Ericsson R320 is now obsolete, but if the quality...”

★★★★☆

written by Alastair. on 28/10/2001

The Ericsson R320 is now obsolete, but if the quality of this phone is indicative of the latest models, the Ericsson R380 or R520 would both make ideal business phones.

It is a good solid design, with a metal back plate and a 'stubby' rubber antenna, which ensures that weak spots like an antenna shaft or battery door are eliminated. The battery release switch looks as if it could be accidentally activated, although it hasn't happened to me yet. Despite being a Swedish tank, this phone still has some degree of asthetic appeal - the thin, wide body is easy to wrap your fingertips around, unlike my previous Nokia 3310 which was awkward to hold due to the small size and the need to keep your fingers clear of the internal antenna and microphone.

Despite what others on Reviewcentre have said, I have found the sound quality of the R320 to be generally quite poor. However, the stability of the signal is very good. If you put your R320 inside a metal filing cabinet, the signal meter will not change, but if you do the same with some other phones, the signal strength can drop dramatically. This stable reception ensures that the sound quality is consistent, whereas my Nokia would usually have excellent sound quality, but would sound choppy (or even cut off) near physical obstacles such as concrete pillars.

The slow text input - which also lacks T9 - is a pity, although my Palm m105 can send SMSs through the R320s IrDA port, which makes this problem less significant. The firmware has crashed on me once, but it hasn't been a major frustration.

Overall, a good buy.

“I want to describe 2 bugs that are not fixed yet. Also...”

★★★★★

written by Horia. on 21/10/2001

I want to describe 2 bugs that are not fixed yet. Also peoples from Ericsson-Catania, Sicily, told me that they can't be fixed by software. I don't trust them at all, while they told me once (after 3-4 minutes of "hard trying")that is impossible to upgrade my telephone software because they always receive a message saying that the hardware of my telephone is broken. They offer instead to send my telephone 2 weeks for repair at Ericsson-Rome, but I was smart enough to not agree this idea. I tried on my computer at home and the hardware is perfect, the telephone software can be upgraded with no problems anytime. If I were manager at SONY-Ericsson I would reevaluate the staff that is service responsible at Ericsson-Catania!!! Shame to all so called "specialists".
Now about the bugs:
FIRST BUG: In Address Book, if one adds e-mail addresses, they are available till the phone is switched off first time, after restart all of them are erased.
SECOND BUG: If one uses 2 SIM cards and has all the telephone numbers in the phone memory, together with few voice labels, once the SIM card is changed, the phone must be started two times consecutively in order to have all the voice labels available. Starting the phone only once, only half of the voice labels are in their places.

written by Johnny. on 01/07/2001

After having a string of Nokia phones from orange, I got quite excited when they offered me an Ericsson as everyone seems to have a Nokia and the build quality on them is pants. Thought Orange were sending me a T28, so you can imagine my dismay when I recieved the big cumbersome R320. Cheered up when I read about all the cool stuff it could do. The phone is performing well, and after a bit of initial getting used to, the phone is not too bad. Still can't work out wap though, any ideas?

the issue of phone (r320) freezing or switching off is so common in nigeria, so much that it has discredited the other good features of the phone. i want to change my phone to r320 but from a friend's experience, who's phone switched off for weeks, and still does abruptly, embaracing him and disrupting his business and communication needs, leaves me disappointed and scared of buying the phone. pls advice me on this and how to solve this problem, i need advice fast, thank you.

“This is, in my opinion, Ericssons finest hour,...”

★★★★★

written by San Siro. on 13/01/2001

This is, in my opinion, Ericssons finest hour, everything you could ever want in a phone this has got. The phone just oozes class from the cool blue screen to the 100% voice dialling and superb voice answer facility-havent you always wanted to divert someone to answer phone by simply saying "busy"?
This phone makes u feel totally in control because while talking you can do almost anything you want from storing numbers and writing text messages to putting reminders on your calendar and using the calculator.
This phone took all the features that were criticised in the T-series and improves them no end, which proves these big uncaring companies do listen sometimes.
The phone takes a lot of time getting used to because it has so many features and if you buy this phone 2nd hand you must get a manual because, unless youre an experienced Ericsson user, you will be lost in the menus. The thing that strikes you is how much you get for your money, if this was a Nokia it would cost twice as much. Unlike Nokia phones which cost so much because little kids want them for their pretty covers and logos, Ericssons are superb value for money.
As i am a business user the modem and Outlook synchronisation are a superb addition (and yes there are people out there who use the modem) as is the calendar which has saved my ass on many occasions.
All in all if youre after a no-nonsense phone with more features for your money than anything else on the market then the R320 is the phone for you, just learning the menus is great fun for months and to cap it all it has TETRIS!!!!Beat that.

I agree with this review on almost all part cause it's a great phone with all I dreamed but after two years of use I must change phone three times last just yesterday cause after around one year it stops to work and turn off indefinetly. Other poor rate is damn time to write sms or navigate into menu. Really too slow.
