“Wasnt the best”

New Moon was funny in the wrong way. Maybe it was the mood we were in but we were laughing in places when no one else was. I suppose this type of film appeals to a very specific audience, not me. I would recommend to some people I know.

written by glenc on 01/06/2010

Having watched the first movie in the series my other half wanted us to watch the 2nd. I thought the first one was OK (a kind of TV movie really...) so thought we'd give it a go.

It wasn't great.

It seemed to be like a TV series that they'd produced and then thought "oh, maybe we should release it as a movie?" - it wasn't very punchy, the storyline was pretty flat and for most of the time nothing really happened of any note.

I wasn't running out screaming, "No no dont make me watch anymore" but I would have been quite happy not to have watched it.

So, overall, not great, but if you've got a couple of hours to kill and there is absolutely nothing else to do maybe consider it...

Ok, I got sucked in by the hype again, (apologies for pun). I watched Twilight, and was a little disappointed, so wasn't really expecting much from the sequel. I got dragged to watch this movie over the Xmas holidays, and yes, the cinema was filled with teenage girls. Not a great start.

Anyway, back to the movie... it's OK. Not great... probably about the same as Twilight, except a big difference - this time around you're subjected to half naked werewolf men/boys whatever, who use every opportunity to rip off their t-shirts to mop the brow of the nearest damsel in distress. That's pretty much it. There is a story in there somewhere, I promise, perhaps if I read the book i'll get to understand what exactly the author is trying to achieve with these stories.

I was expecting a lot more from this movie, seeing as they had a different director than the first. The most disapointing thing for me was that the movie wasn't nearly as true to the book as I would have liked. I thoroughly enjoyed the books, and they are a series that I could read again and again. I could not however watch this movie again and again. The only saving grace for this movie is that you get to put a face to the new characters.

i have read the entire saga. i am actually reading it through for a second time now. i loved the first movie, the 2nd was seriously lacking. The 2nd book was by far my least favorite, but i held out hope for the movie, and found myself disappointed. The movie lacked in emotion....i could feel Jacob's heartbreak in the book more than i could in the movie. my husband saw the movie with me, and was completely bored throughout the whole thing.
The Director and producer could have done so much better in my opinion.

I love all the Twilight books- but like most books to film, it leaves a lot to be desired. I thought that, the acting in New Moon, was actually worse than "Twilight", and honestly, I thought the direction was horrible. Overall, poor acting, cheesy scenes and dialog, and it lost about 80% of what makes the books so great. Please get a different director before starting "Breaking Dawn"- c'mon Stephanie Meyer, regulate on some people, they are butchering your work! For how lacking the film was, my hats off to the marketing team- nice HYPE!! Too much money spent on hype and PR, and not enough on the actual film.

I read the first two books (and the second book was a bit boring for my taste), but I have to say I was very disappointed with the movie. Maybe because I am slightly older than the target audience (24), but it seemed ultra cheesy and overly dramatic-kinda like a teenage soap opera with a fantastical twist... Some things just shouldn't be transformed into visuals i suppose. I can appreciate a young robust body as well as the next girl, but the film just seemed like a display of teenage girlish fantasies. If that is the purpose, I apologize for the poor review...i was just hoping for a little more substance.

written by FaerieBik on 03/12/2009

I was one of the legion of fans who adored Twilight; however, The Twilight Saga: New Moon has lost much of the draw of the first movie with its very weak soundtrack. The music from Twilight was incredible and stands on its own. However, the music from New Moon was boring and maudlin. Music sets the emotional context for ever scene so with out a great score, the movie dragged and didn't come close to meeting it's potential. I'd love to see someone re-edit this moving to include new music.

Ritaknits's Response to FaerieBik's Review

Written on: 04/12/2009

You are so right. Even though I'm a little above the demographic that the music is aimed at, I liked the music in the first movie. It blended well with the action on the screen. New Moon music isn't nearly as well-suited.

<br/>That said, I'm 57 and love the movie! I've learned to embrace my inner cougar.

Waste of time. Horrible acting. This is typical for even music these days. Your fed all the marketing and told this is going to be awesome. By all the advertising they basically force you to go see what the hype is all about. The hype was a disappointment. I saw the first one 6 times against my will. My wife loves the series and has read the book series 4 times. She loved both movies by the way. But, to someone that understands what it takes to make a quality movie, this movie didn't have it. Production was poor. The casting was horrible. Scripting and screenplay was probably close to the book if you care. The movie was definately geared toward the pre-teen audience. Any real mature adult would see this as dull "Goosebumps" or "ghostwriter" fashioned movie. Well, compared to the first one "twilight", I would say this film was not worth the money. If you enjoy the series, I would still recommend renting it.

I found the first movie to be much better just like the first book was much better. Twilight had something to say about how a first true love in life defines you and your future love life. New Moon was all image over substance. The message of New Moon seems to be that love is based on how good you look.

written by iToasty on 27/11/2009

I found this review very helpful because... it is very true, indeed thats all it is, bad acting and spotlights on the "hotties" its so annoying and i wish they would attempt to actually make a real movie. all the little tweens and their obsession over hott actors is only getting worse as they make these movies. i will say; those that are fans of the books, will love the movie, because they liked the books, and alot of people say the books were way better, but they still liked the movie, and thats because they liked the movie. im not saying its a terrible idea overall, quite interesting, the books that is, but i still do not enjoy it. "i sparkle therefore i am a MONSTER" -- dude stfu you look rather pretty, makes me wanna touch your face. lol i simply cant get over the fact that they would only spotlight Jacob, i cant stand it when. even though the person is a bad actor, they can still have epic stardom because tweenie obsessions. its simply not right and it appears to me that this makes the movie industry bland and spoiled. i would like good actors and great movies to create a great movie that everyone should enjoy. but whatever you may feel, i think that maybe instead of obsessing over "edward" and "jacob" you should probably look at what is really the case - the actors and how well they do their job. not get payed just to look "sexy" if that were the case i would rather they be a model or something that wont interfere with actors getting the money they deserve to get. i thank you for being one of the few that understands how overrated these movies are and how terrible they may be to the people who dont see looks and obsession as an excuse to call a movie amazing or anything of that sort.
