The Yamaha Fc-3 Half-damper Sustain Pedal Is A Ple
The Yamaha FC-3 half-damper sustain pedal is a pleasure to use. Far better than the loud and clicky footswitch I was using before.
Its action is very close to that of a pedal on a piano, and it's half-damper capability (provided that your keyboard/digital piano supports it) gives you greater control of the sustain, compared to a primitive on/off sustain pedal.
The pedal is larger in real life than it appears in pictures on the Internet. It's size is comparable to a real piano sustain pedal. It's got a good weight to it, and has two rubber strips on the underside to prevent it from moving about.
One potential issue with this pedal is that after a while, it may develop a squeaking sound. Many users of the Yamaha FC-3 pedal have reported this. However, this is easily fixed by opening up the pedal and re-lubricating the moving parts with either good quality grease or vaseline.
For any serious pianist using a compatible keyboard/digital piano, I'd suggest using nothing less than a Yamaha FC-3.
Great review. Helped me decide to get the same model of pedal, even if it is a bit more expensive than some others.
