“Appearance”

★★★★☆

written by PhilWalsham on 30/04/2009

Appearance
It is a light golden piece of heaven. It comes in a 500mL glass bottle with a crown top (it needs a bottle opener to open it). It ' s not quite a pint but close enough to not matter!! The beer is amber in colour and looks like it glows with the sunshine.

What does it taste like?
Easy to drink and not too heavy. The taste isn't too brash or harsh, for people that haven't tried an ale before you can't go far wrong than to try this one. Fursty Ferret has a clean taste that doesn't crowd your taste-buds!! Its lightness is deceptive as it ' s actually 4.4%. There are delicate notes that keep a light taste, but it still has a woody depth. There's also the distinctly hoppy taste, but it ' s not overpowering. It's incredibly moreish and is a good beer to begin an evening with.

Would you recommend it?
Yes it is a nice introduction to ales - more like a cross between an beer and a lager. Fursty Ferret tastes great from the first sip to the last. Delicious!

Background
Fursty Ferret is brewed by Badger Beers Like most Ales you can find Fursty Ferret in shops for about £2- £2.50/bottle depending on where you buy it, which is pretty reasonable.

Summary
There are an ever-creasing number of cross-over ales that seem to be working their way onto the supermarket shelves - now I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing but you need to know which ones are good! This one is a cracker - it's light but doesn't scrimp on flavour. It is light enough to tempt lager drinkers but has enough flavour to warrant a taste by beer drinkers.
Before I get shot down for using the word 'beer' - I mean it in the common use that seems ever more popular - Beer - generally accepted as a darker or heavier drink than lager. Personally I dislike the word 'Bitter' - it put me off of trying some drinks for years! (which I now know to be tasty and flavoursome - not what I would call bitter at all)

Try it - you might surprise yourself and become an ale aficionado!
