“After breaking down Me and My Young juvenile friend...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Imustagreetermsandconditionwhatajoke on 23/01/2024

After breaking down Me and My Young juvenile friend who is disabled and down syndrun who thinks he knows everything about everything the breakdown expert asked what was wrong before I could say something my companion shouted there's no petrol in the van there's no tires on the wheels there is no water or oil in the engine I asked him to be quiet well I spoke to the gentleman the gentleman jump started my van and I asked if it would save to drive home he replied yes in front of witnesses standing close by within 30 minutes of my trip the engine blew up the vehicle never worked again after a so-called kangaroo court organized by the RAC that customer service is decided that they wasn't going to pay any compensation whatsoever because my companion had made several comments as to what he thought was wrong with the vehicle which was totally wrong there was plenty a water and oil and there was tyres on the car and diesel in the van I suggest that people of the country realized the RAC are not there to solve any problems with customers complaints so try the AA at least you might get some success there please don't take it upon yourself to slash The Races tyres because this is the legal as some people are suggested this is what should happen

“MOTORCYCLIST AWARE AVOID”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jackmichaelson on 27/08/2022

***WARNING*** If you own a Motorbike or Moped avoid the RAC Breakdown service. Short of my current experience using this company is, My moped had broken down less than a mile from my home, I called the RAC Breakdown service, 3 hours later an RAC Mechanic turned up, he had a look around and established the drive belt had snapped and said he would arrange for the moped (Which is quite heavy) to be transported home. He dropped me off at home at 8 PM I got a text to say my moped would be collected with 90 minutes, no calls at 10.00 PM, I called the RAC and was advised and I quote, "can you go back to the bike and switch off the alarm, and we will arrange for the collection of the bike during the evening "(No chance), He said he would call me back within an hour, I went to bed at midnight as no call. Got up to go to work at 06.30am, 1 missed call at 00.42am and another at 05.43am, I got home from work at 15.00pm another missed call at 14.46. I again called up the RAC fobbed off to be told another team where going to call me, I got called an hour later to be told they cannot get to my bike for FOUR DAYS and they said, again they cannot guarantee that they can get to it in that time. Remember my bike is less than a mile from my home, he gave a lame excuse that there was no bike transfer companies within 35 miles radius of where the bike is, but he said he would call me back in an hour as I said would the RAC pay if I organised the bike to be collected by a company not on their list after I rattled off several locally on the not that are not on their list, he said he would ask his manager if that was ok and call me back. Again no call back and now when I call the operators say they will transfer me to another department and put me on hold for hours at a time ad nobody answers. so I am in limbo now, my bike may be stolen by the time anyone reaches it. So please avoid this company if your a biker of any motorcycle or moped.

“Motorcyclists Avoid the RAC they'll leave you stranded!!”

written by Vtwin on 10/01/2021

My Motorcycle rectifier fried on the M6, luckily the engine chose the perfect time to cut out-just before junction 34.I managed to coast down the slip road and park my machine in a safe place. I phoned the RAC, the voice said I was in a queue, I was left on hold 55 minutes before someone answered. I explained the problem and the operator said "someone will be there in about 90 minutes. After 2/1/2 hours still no show so I called the RAC again, after 40 minutes I got through. The operator was very apologetic and I would now be a priority, I obviously wasn't as 2 hours passed and no show from the RAC. After I had been stood in the same place for over 5 hours I called my Wife to tell her I'd had enough of waiting and I would have one more try and if nothing happened would She come and get me? I got through to the call centre after I'd pushed the bike to the Holiday Inn just down the road {they still couldn't say when they'd come}So I phoned the Police to tell them that I had no choice other than to abandon the bike. I then phoned my Wife who drove the 40 miles to come and get me. I got home and phoned the RAC again, they were very apologetic. I said "well I'm home now but my bike is in a hotel car park, are you going to retrieve it? I received a call from a taxi driver who'd driven from Blackburn to the Holiday Inn to pick me up so where are you? The RAC had sent a taxi to pick me up and take me home, this is despite me telling them that I was abandoning the vehicle and telling them my Wife was coming to get me. An independent rescue service rang me from Penrith at 11.00 pm, they thought I was still with the bike, I said "I am now at home; if I was still with the bike I would have been stood there for over 9 hours by now". My bike was returned at 1am the next day. Two years ago my bike broke down because of a minor issue, I called the RAC for help, in the end they said that they said they didn't have a patrol to send and that's that!! I called my Wife who put my tools in the boot and I fixed it myself by the roadside. I also have Classic bikes and the policy includes rescue cover. My Norton had a rear puncture, my cover could send a number of operator's but they sent the AA. I was very impressed with their rescue set up for Bikes. After 16 years with the RAC-good riddance and I'm going to try the AA.

“waited 6 hours for service”

written by lodgerroger on 26/09/2016

Took out motorcycle breakdown with Bennett's insurance . Recently had a puncture in Back tyre. Phoned RAC and told I would be contacted by garage/patrol. After 2 and half hours received a phone call to say they did not attend punctures by roadside and they would send recovery vehicle to deliver the bike and myself and passenger to my home. After further 3 hours recovery arrives (now been waiting 5 and a half hours)and was told he had to pick up 2nd bike .Eventually a 1 hour trip to my home took 3 hours. Called the RAC at 1800 hours arrived home 0200 next morning. I now have to pay for a second recovery to take my bike to garage to get puncture repaired.

“Shockingly BAD customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gibsonpg1966 on 16/12/2014

I have had breakdown cover with the RAC for probably 10 years, automatically renewed annually, with direct debit from the same bank. This morning my car wouldn't start, flat battery due to cold and inactivity for a week. No worries... until I called the RAC and was told I didn't have a policy with them - and that was only after the woman on the phone was able to tell the difference between the sound of P and R, unable even to get the postcode right! Afer a least 10 minutes she found my details and said the cover hadn't been renewed in June, and put me through to anther dept. 'Billy' immediately admitted it was due to a "system error" on their part, and suggested he put me through to the sales dept so I could take out another policy - but they wouldn't charge me the emergency call out fee for new members!!! I tried very hard to stay calm and asked Billy to put me through to a manager. Silly me, why would a manager be available?! But one would call me back within 24hrs. I pointed out that I was freezing, that my car that wouldn't start, and did he really expect me to stand around for 24 hrs?! I insisted a manager call me within half an hour. This went on with Billy constantly repeating the 24hrs mantra... until finally, having already decided the RAC wouldn't be getting any more of my money, I asked if the conversation was being recorded. Billy confirmed it was, so I repeated that I wanted a senior manager to call me within half an hour, and if it didn't happen I would contact Watchdog, Trading Standards and the relevant Ombudsman. Again I pointed out that Billy had admitted it was a "system error", therefore not MY error! No-one called me and I have now discovered the numbers of negative reviews online! Coincidentally i just spoke with a friend who told me her son waited 5 hrs yesterday for the RAC to attend a call out and is not renewing his membership. Meanwhile I called my local garage and a mechanic came out to start the car - at no charge! What I am more concerned about is the fact that, since June, I have been blissfully unaware of their screw up, believing that I had break down cover for all eventualities :(

“Such a long wait without updates for recovery”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KerryWatts on 16/02/2013

We had RAC breakdown cover for some time now, and recently had to call on them three times, and what a nightmare it has been. First time we waited two hours for a recovery to attend us and we were not updated at anytime about what was going on. Second time they took around one and half hours again to be left in the dark as to what was happening. Third time was a total joke, they gave me a time of two hours and I gave up after two hours ten mintues so rung them to chase it and was asked why I am ringing. I then complained and was given a further forty minutes to wait. They are no good at responding in any decent time, they patrols are under a great deal of pressure, and they are not spending the money to resolve this issue. Don’t go with the RAC go AA or Greenflag they are much better!
