This camera is worth every penny. It's such a wonderful camera to use and have been very impressed with my first few shots.

Tooka long time to make the jump to digital from beloved Film but bought one of these after much research and reading reviews etc.
I'm really pleased with it. got it from amazon in January and havn't looked back. It feels just right, heavy in a pleasing and solid way but not too uncomfortable to hold for a few minutes.
The functionality is very simple and just feels right and intuitive.
Photo quality is superb.
It's great for just snapping the kids or for setting up more technical shots, i've used it for flowers and cornish sunsets and it's just brilliant.
I'd recommend geting a spare Battery though as it doesn't last very long if you're using the video functions.
replaying, storing etc all explained in the software which is very straightforward.
The 450 was a good choice but having had both in my hand, the 500 just felt a better fit.
apologies if this isn't technical enough for some of you but some decisions are based on heart, not always the head !
I got the standard lens with mine but will get a distance lens once i've done more painstaking research !!

I have had this camera for a month now and it is my second Canon digital SLR camera. Although it was a bit more than I had intended on paying I think it has been worth it. Apart from the fact it looks and feels great the extensive manual operation modes allow you to fine tune the camera according to the kind of pictures you are taking and if you don't want to set up the camera first, the auto mode will still take great photographs. I like the layout of the buttons and the large screen which makes filming video a breeze. Like all the Canon SLR's the optics are exceptional and produce very precise images with stunning colours even in low light, but with 15 Megapixels to play with you will need a large memory card!
