Damon Galgut, The Good Doctor Review: The Setting
Damon Galgut, The Good Doctor Review: The setting may be in South Africa and the underlying them may touch upon apartheid, but it does ring a familiar bell to an Indian here. The idea is basically about 'doctors and society'. We see that Frank Eloff is not really impressed by Laurence Waters even though he also held similar views when he first came to the place. Only that Laurence with his determination succeeds in bringing about a change in the system that the older doctors avoided. He succeeds in winning the hearts of the doctors and the villagers alike by setting up these camps to spread awareness.
The emotional content is also rich and the description is simple and effective. It touches upon certain ethical aspects in a non-judgemental way. It is perhaps the fastest book I have come across.
