To anyone who is thinking of buying a T200 please read my review

-----------------------------------------
I bought the T200 after selling my t65 around the last weeks of december 2002, i went for it cos of the blue light which is a craze down here in Sri Lanka anyways i bought it for a round $140 and during the first few weeks of using it i found that it lacked some features of the t65 mostly the superb phone book which was on the t65 but anyways it was later on that i noticed problems with signal strngth where my friends with 3310 had full signals i would only have about half and the battry was not able to standby for even 2 days therefore i got in replaced as it was within the warrenty period but i still feel that the signal reception in this is not quite up to standerd and the battery life is still only 2 days or less also the fact that the back light is too bright is a case for concern where it is difficult for the eyes if you are using it in really dark places.
For anyone who is thinking of going for a T200 it is a SOLID PHONE(Really Good Build casing etc) but it lacks many features and there are many bugs which sony ericsson should look into. I recomend you go for some other phone rather than buying a t200.

The firmware seems to be made by a blind sheep.
In keyboard locked mode any answered phonecall unlocks the keyboard again. The phonenumber preselect settings are impossible to change.
Phone has been replaced because of charging error but new model has the same problem. It keeps telling that it is charging an unknown battery, while it is the original sony one.
This phone is NOT user friendly.

This phone is very average and I feel that I have not received what I have payed for. While the phone is lightweight and somewhat stylish, it has toyish look to it: it's looks like a toy. I HATE the buttons, the up button is stiff and it requires slightly extra effort to press. When you press the buttons, it makes a relatively loud clicking noise. I suggest Sony Ericsson release a soft buttons for the phone. The games are very boring, and I as disappointed to find that didn't even have Snake: a classic game. Overall, the phone doesn't meet it's expectations.

I recently recieved a Sony Ericsson T200 as a free gift from my service provider for not switching to a competitor. My first impression upon seeing the phone was "WOW" (especially the amazing blue screen). But having used it for a few days now, I'm starting to find that it's not a very user-friendly phone. To begin with, the phone's menu system is very awkward to use. Many frequently used features are hidden deep within the menu system or require excessive key presses to access. Speed-dial, which is a convenient feature on most other phones, requires an odd setup of having to copy and order contacts on the SIM card. Other features, such as keylock are not well planned out... The two-key sequence to unlock a the keypad are very close together and can easily be pressed by accident. There are other annoying features as well, but these examples give an idea of how poorly the user-interface was designed. In addition, compared to other phones on the market (many cheaper ones included), the T200 doesn't really offer many "extras". There is no real ringtone feature... only simple beeps. The composer is very limited and many other phones in this price range offer poly-phonic tones. The games are really quite substandard and not very enjoyable. There are, however, some select things about the T200 that are good. The overall look of the phone is quite sleek and modern. It is impressively light weight; you'll hardly notice it in your pocket. That might not be such a good thing as it's easily forgotten. The screen really is sharp and clear and the blue light is fantastic. However, I don't feel the phone really exploits the display to its advantage. Finally, one of the useful features on the phone is WAP-over-GPRS with the one touch button. In conclusion, the T200 didn't live up to it's first impression. While it is stylish and attractive, and certainly has the hardware to make a good phone, the software and user-interface need drastic redesigning. I would not recommend this phone and I'm glad I didn't have to pay anything for it. :-)

You can lock the keypad by pressing and holding the C button and then pressing 2. You unlock by pressing C then Yes. The English language manual doesn't tell you how to do this either (I got it from the Fido.ca website).

Probably the worst thing about this phone is that you can only enter contacts through the phonebook (or a shortcut) -- you can't punch in a phone number and then save it as a contact, as with Nokia, Motorola, LG, etc. etc.. Dumb!
Other than that, it's fairly easy to use, once you get it set up.

Well, I'm still trying to find out how keylock works, cause the manual in Portuguese says nothing about it!

The Sony Ericsson T200 is good in terms of money but not worth it in terms of support & accessories.

Hi Hemantha,
This review has really helped me, I had got similar feedbacks, even the dealers told me to go in for the T-100 than T-200. Your review just seems to cement my thoughts. Thanks

I think the reason why your stand-by lasts only 2 days is because your back light is set to "on" which illuminates the screen even when not needed. Therefore I recommend that you set your light to "auto" and you'll see stand-by time lasting up to 7 days! My GF had the same problem! Please read the manual ok?
