Opening The First Page Of A New Book, To Me, Is Se
Opening the first page of a new book, to me, is setting the wheels in motion for the duration of the particular book I am about the read. Sometimes the wheels continue to spin slowly throughout, sometimes the wheels head off track, and it can be quite hard to set them straight.
Ray Clark's Calix was different. From page one the wheels certainly began spinning, to the speed of the horse and cart heading for Gallows Hill!
It would be a crime to say those wheels continued at this steady pace throughout the book.
The wheels were spinning violently off the track, and I didn't care!
Calix is a fast-paced-page-turner set against the backdrop of the Salem witch trials, quickly firing the reader from the Colonial times to modern day, and dragging all hell with it!
Physically hard to put down on your bedside table, and one where arguments due to staying up till the early hours with the Missus, are absolutely worth it!
I give it 10 out of 10!
