I've been studying A-Level Classics Civilisation with UK-Open Learning since November last year. I am extremely pleased with my learning experience with UK-Open Learning and intend to continue taking other A-Levels with them. The customer services team are very helpful and more importantly, so is my tutor who is always informative, prompt and encouraging with an in-depth knowledge of the subject. The course materials arrived the next day and were extremely thorough of the subject matter; covering the majority of learning needed for the course and giving useful activities to build knowledge and readiness for the exams. It taught me the analytical skills required for the subject and as a literature heavy course; it enabled me to become well acquanted with characters, plot and historical themes in the studied texts as well as for the art module. Repeating the folder Activities again was also an excellent revision tool that helped me prepare for my exams. I passed the AS modules in May with an A and am taking the A2's in Summer '13. Be aware though, this is distance learning and for a higher standard grade you would need to do some further research of your own after completing the folder and be prepared to revise thoroughly. The course recommends books to purchase, some being compulsary since the course refers to them and others being suggested for further study; be picky with these as some are more useful than others, some are covered in the other suggestions and some in the compulsary reading. Also make sure you see the examination boards website to be familiar with the Specification and aware of updates since I did meet an unexpected change in my AS module for Greek Tragedy in which the set texts for the module changed, however my tutor reacted by quickly developing the relevant study materials to an excellent standard. Also you will need to contact venues to organise your own exams for extra fees for A-Levels, GCSE's and so on. An excellent and thorough course with outstanding support, but definitely for those who can work in a disciplined manner and can take the initiative with their study. This is not for those who need 1-1 support all the way through, but then again, no distance learning provider would be.

I received the course materially very quickly. The material was concise and covered all aspects of the course. You do need to do a lot of extra research and reading however to include a large amount of detail that isn;t covered in the folder sent. The majority of the information needed to complete this course is available on the internet. I found the price reasonable and the reason i chose this course is because it is accredited and recognised. My tutor was helpful and responded very promptly to any queries i had and my assignments were returned usually within 24 hours. I have no complaints about this course and would recommend it to others.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that this course is brilliant for everyone who has an interest in animals. The tutors are always there to answer any questions anyone has. This course is well worth the money and I would recommend Uk open learning to my friends and family. Thank you Samantha

Having ordered the course at the end of last month I expected there to be a delay but no even though it was ordered in the afternoon it came the next day all nicely boxed. The teachers are always willing to help and I get the feeling they actually want you to succeed. The materials are very easy to understand even at A level which is what I am doing there is nothing unessential and too complicated. They are a very affordable price and as they are now running 3 for 2 offer on a levels it is even more of a bargain!!

"Digital Photography course" Excellent course (currently studying) and provider. The reading material is set out clearly and features self assignments (little pieces to do on your own which don't require marking or submitting) and tutor based assignments. The tutor based assignments were marked and returned very quickly (via e-mail for myself) and full of feedback. I have only had one real instance of having to contact UK Open Learning (when I couldn't locate my student number) and they replied very quickly. The only down point I have come across is before buying a camera for the course I asked on the facebook page if the camera I was looking at was suitable and was told it was, but part way in to the course discovered the camera didn't have a function which I had to use for an assignment (aperture control) and had to go out and buy a new camera. So my advice is buy a DSLR from the start, I can highly recommend the Nikon D3100.
