AVI Pro Nine Plus

Review: AVI Pro Nine+ standmount speakers.

I bought these as a quality stand-mount at a reasonable price (they were used). Finished in a lovely Yew veneer, they look very good albeit slightly squat (due to drivers I imagine). Sonically, they are very good - they go surprisingly deep for their size, with a clean and controlled bass, have a smooth and detailed midrange which is fast and dynamic, and a clean if not hugely extended high frequency response.

They are much more of a 'music lover's speaker than an audiophile speaker - they don't sparkle so much as some, and neither do they do seismic bass, but in what they do do, they do very well and compared very well to a pair of Audiophysic Avanti MkIII speakers I had previously owned. Those were much more expensive and it is credit to the AVIs just how well they compared (albeit coming up a bit short as you'd expect against the £9k Avanti IIIs).

What more can I say? Well, four stars for value as at full retail price they are probably a tad expensive, although sonically they are superb and present a much bigger sound than you'd expect from their size.

I sold them but wish I'd kept them. That about sums it up.

I bought these to replace my rather large Monitor Audio speakers after reading some reviews in Hi-Fi magazines.

First impressions were of a solidly made product with a traditional non-gimicky appearance.

Initial listening was good with a rather full sound and plenty of bass.

Further listening however, revealed a rather forward sound and I found the bass at times took on a "thudding " quality which was rather unpleasant.

I will not be keeping them.
