I have found a massive turn around in service from Mather Marshall in Hatfield since November 2016, the staff are extremely pleasant to deal with and the service is now first class. They return all calls and answer questions quickly and politely. Glad to see the service has reverted back to the service I rember from years ago.
Unprofessional, Awful Service From Start To Finish!
I called to see if I could book an appointment to see a property I liked with this particular Estate Agent. The guy who I spoke with was actually quite rude when I asked to view, he said in an unfriendly manner 'there has been a lot of viewings this week, I will see if the sellers will let you'. I should of stopped there but I ended up viewing the property and loved it so I put an offer in, offer was excepted.
As the weeks went on my mortgage was being processed and I paid over £500 just for the valuation for the mortgage, I had paid a mortgage broker for getting the mortgage etc. My Mortgage was agreed, everything seemed to be running smoothly. A few months had passed and it all went quiet from his side, as previously he would be bombarding me with calls to make sure my side of the deal was still going ahead.
I then had to chase him by phoning at least 2/3 times a week, I was told by his colleagues a numerous of times, he is 'out of the office' and will call you back, when I would ask for his mobile I was informed they cannot give that out, even though at the beginning of the sale he rang from his mobile to arrange a time to view this property(I lost my phone so lost all my numbers, hence why I didn't have his number anymore)
When I eventually caught up with him he informed me that the buyers were having problems with their buyers as the top of the chain had pulled out. Cut a long story short, I was again chasing him for a few weeks to see what was occurring with this sale,as I was informed the house I had put an offer might not be affected by the top of the chains decision. Yet again I was being fobbed off by colleagues and himself informing me he was trying to get hold of the people in the chain.
After weeks and weeks of waiting to hear some news and there was a lot at risk here and a lot of money on the line, as I had tenants set up to move into my property, I had a small son who I had booked into Nursery and put a deposit down on this along with a lot more money on the line.
Eventually I had a call!!!!! Not from him though but from someone in his office to inform me the deal was OFF!!!
Firstly it would of been a little more personal or professional for him to call as I had been dealing with him for months, not a random person from his office that he clearly had to hide behind, as he must have known how he dealt with me was just wrong!
Why couldn't he call to inform me the awful news, he is a coward and should not be in this field of work. I understand house sales fall through but to be treated how I was treated, I was being fobbed off at every call why couldn't he of been honest with me.
I have NEVER EVER dealt with such an unprofessional company in all my life. If I was selling or renting there is no way I would use this company and no way recommend them.
Still to this date (over 3 months) he has not called me to explain or APOLOGISE. I lost a lot money, a simple sorry is not too much to ask, well clearly it is from him!
I would HIGHLY advise anyone renting buying or selling in the Hatfield area to stay clear of this joke of a company!!!!!!
Totally Incompetent - Lost Our Key But Wouldn't Admit It
Bought a student let through MM. Renovated, then asked them to manage letting. BIG MISTAKE! Not listed on website, despite promptings. No new photos taken. After weeks without feedback discovered 2 promised viewings were fictional. Asked for key to give to another agent. Suddenly our keys wouldn't work. MM's log had no record of a lock change when we asked. At first thought we had squatters. Turned out MM HAD changed the lock the day before we collected our key. Claimed later they'd broken a key in the lock which they kindly replaced "at their own expense"! This was an old worn lock with one key. This meant we had to replace this with a new lock and have additional keys cut for the tenants. Later learned that gardener had tried twice to pick up key without success. So key not kept securely and log unsatisfactory.
Upshot was we missed the pre-term letting window. Now told us they HAD shown the property to several parties who all said it was TOO GOOD! Yeah right! Kings let the property within a week once term had started - as it turns out a lucky escape as they have proved to be excellent.
Reported MM to Property Ombudsman who was satisfied with our evidence but powerless as MM Lettings (unlike Sales) is not part of the Ombudsman scheme.
just clear up a few things on this particular review, the lock was changed due to the key being snapped inside the lock by adam woolmington of mather marshall and the lock on this property was changed at his cost, therefore the land lord did not have to pay for the a lock change this was done by choice. A key was provided by mather marshall for the land lord and 2 further keys were kept at our office for viewings and tenants. Unfortunately the land lord was not notified of the lock change until the following day for this we apologise.
The property was indeed let through kings at a reduced price. The ombudsman contact mather marshall and although mather marshall lettiings is not a memeber of the scheme we still provided the invoice for the lock change.
The window was missed for letting the property due the renovations the land lord was undertaking to get it ready for 4 rather than 3 tenants taking too long and therefore the property was off the market for too long.
Since the new tenants have moved into this property through Kings estate agents and the Landlord we have recieved numerous complaints from the neighbouring properties regarding noise, rubbish, and abusive behaviour. They came to us as they had no reaction from other channels and hoped we still had contact with the Landlord, we have passed these compaints on and thus far according to the neighbours ( who have no connection to mather marshall ) nothing has been done.

get away as far as possible.. waste your time on stupid things.. had to get to the extent of me thinking of suing them.. so unprofessional and incompetent.. very rude staff, cant do there job properly, only interested in the money and they will make that very clear.. dont care how u as a client end up..worst on earth.....

as a seller they kept me hanging on for ages without producing a serious buyer (even tho price was reduced several times)....liaison was virtually non-existant. would not recommend to an enemy let alone a friend.

I found Mather Marshall Lettings a very good letting agent, they are polite, professional, and very copmpetitive on pricing, I had checked other agents who had the same property up for rent to see the best deal. The staff were fun, happy and very helpful, one of the staff even gave me a lift to my home, as she was visiting her parents in the same area!! cant get better than that. I feel that perhaps some people expect far too much from an agent, if you pay your rent on time, report problems the correct way then there is nothing that could go wrong. The inventory was done independently, so it was fair. I have recommended them to all my friends and will use them again.

We had the misfortune of dealing with this agency. The flat was ok but the staff in the office are absolutely rude and most unhelpful (to be fair, Adam, the young guy, is an exception to this). D. and C. unfortunately lack in any sort of common sense with regards to good communication and customer service.
They never get back to you, they need CONSTANT chasing for any little issue, and they are more than happy to accuse us that we are late for payment the day BEFORE we are due and will not take the blame for anything...forget any apologies or acknowledgement of your efforts, they are not quite as professional or even basically decent to do that.

These people are rude, arrogant and completely unhelpful. I would activly urge people not to rent with these people. I can not understand how they are still in buisness. Simply awful. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don not rent with them and save yourself so much hassle. These so much better out there although that really wouldnt be hard
Quite Simply Mather Marshall Is The Most Disappoin
Quite simply Mather Marshall is the most disappointing estate agent I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. We are currently leasing a property from them and have found the service to be totally unprofessional. We have dealt with estate agents previously and have had the occasional gripe, but this particular company just can't get anything right. They've got the contract wrong on three occasions, one of which was the length of the term. The inventory was wrong, they never return your calls. The staff are genuinely incompetent. When we asked for the contract to be emailed to us, they didn't know how to to do it. On top of this their fees are very expensive; more than those in central London who are infamous for their high admin costs.
