“problematic boiler dont bother”

★★☆☆☆

written by rapidbanger on 15/06/2016

This was recommended by installing plumber now granted it is around 8 years old the issues have been a new pcb or mainboard, a new exchanger valve i.e switching between ch or hw as radiators were heating up when hot tap was run and hot water was warm due to this, expansion tank needing never ending re-inflation have now had an external one fitted!a new pressure guage fitted the external thermostat renewed ( i know thats not baxis fault a pain nonetheless) now an e160 error frequently cutting the boiler off which means a new fan unit this boiler is poor do not be taken in by big names it has cost me a fortune in repairs boilers are supposed to have a 15 year life mine will be renewed with new parts by then

Your platignum boiler should have had a 10 year Baxi warranty as long as it was registered with Baxi and serviced each year so all the repair would have been done as part of warranty by Baxi excellent service team

“Poor quality components mean regular breakdowns”

★★☆☆☆

written by PayUpoNo on 21/01/2016

My Baxi was installed 7 years ago, and came with a five year guarantee - thank goodness. During that time it has had two replacement expansion tanks, and various other bits replaced. The expansion tank has just failed again. That makes FOUR in seven years, if you include the original one. Baxi cannot explain why this happens, just tell me they normally last for many years. They blame my system, which is serviced annually and is protected by a magnetic sludge-remover. They can't tell me what I can do to prevent future failures. My plumber tells me that my boiler is a record-breaker - he has never replaced a pressure vessel more than once on a Baxi boiler. Replacement costs £200, so that averages £100 per year, on top of normal running & maintenance costs. Although it works well when it is working, it is too much of a worry and too expensive to keep going. I would not buy another

Don't understand why the replacement cost £200!.
Expansion vessel cost about £40-£60
Labour cost £40
Total = £100
Only had to replace one expansion on a Baxi and that was over 12 years only!

“Probably the worst boiler in the world”

The worst boiler in the world. 15 days and counting without hot water or heating due to this piece of rubbish. Breaks down every year without fail. Don't buy in any circumstance.

“not worth the money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Conrad452 on 07/08/2014

I paid a lot of money with extended cover for my boiler 2 years ago. Since then I've had nothing but bother. Worst boiler I have ever had. I wasn't told at time of purchase that the remote thermostat isn't covered by Baxi and that has broke twice. Also the magnaclean system is constantly leaking and the Baxi engineer said that isn't covered either so I will have to pay someone to fix that. Only buy one of these if you are happy to put up with constant hassle and expence.

“Useless service from baxi”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mikeseasider on 03/04/2014

My gran has moved into new house with baxi boiler installed, paid baxi to come and service boiler. They were unable to remove case due to screws heads being murdered by someone. I phoned baxi to ask them if they could revisit and remove screws and service boiler, they told me they do not do this and I will have to phone a private company to do this. What a load of tosh, do not buy a baxi boiler as after service is useless

“Expensive to maintain”

★★☆☆☆

written by James321 on 11/03/2014

Boiler installed 7 years ago, serviced every year but still had minor niggles over the guarantee period, recently had a new expansion tank and now a heat exchanger needs to be fitted, two leaks recently repaired. Expensive boiler to maintain, I will look for a better quality boiler when I replace this Baxi.

“Buy if you like pain”

written by Trevino248 on 02/03/2014

We got these boilers installed after hurricane sandy. Since then we have had nothing but hell. Our original plumber who installed these had a mental breakdown and was institutionalized (not a joke) from the issues these boilers gave. I miss my old boilers that never have me any issues. These sad excuses for new technology are terrible.

“Problems after 4 years”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 11/03/2013

The boiler was fitted with a Magnatron when installed in March 2006. It was registered for the guarantee of 5 years. The first water leak was in December 2007. Then again in 2009. Since then there have been leaks, currently awaiting repair man to see to another! He only came last week to sort out one at the other side of the boiler. The heat exchanger has been flushed out twice, a valve component has had to be replaced and on each occasion the system was flushed out. Whilst the boiler does give a good flow of hot water for the power shower etc, it is not the reliable boiler that I thought it would be, bearing in mind the price that I paid. Even the engineer who has repaired it was not happy with it. At my previous house the boiler there had been in for many years with no trouble. Is this because it was not a combi boiler?

“Any excuse not to do the work”

★☆☆☆☆

written by justme2012 on 06/06/2012

Had a boiler for just over to years and a problem with it going off and needing a reset which happens more and more frequently, at the end of winter it seems as though it is a just a frozen condensate pipe which obviously isn't the case since the weather picked up. After the first service the Carbon Moxoxide reading was sky high so out the can, said it was a supply issue and any more calls outs and i'd be charged. After waiting ages until pay day I had a new pipe fitted direct from the meter to the boiler and the engineer doing it said it had made no difference, out come the service guy again and says the CO is now fine and happy days. Then the 2nd service and CO is sky high again and now they say they're charging for the call out.

“Baxi Platinum 28 HE”

★★★★★

written by asparks on 16/05/2012

I have had my Platinum for 4 years and have never had a problem with it. It was installed by a reputable company and the system was flushed clean. The water pressure is fine on taps and the shower and it really heats up the radiators quickly in the winter months. I do have it serviced yearly at a very reasonable price and so far there have not been any new parts required or function issues. I would certainly buy another one but as my one is running well I cant see that being for a number of years yet. I also read the other reviews and cant believe they are talking about the same boiler as I have fitted. Maybe it was the installation that was not done correctly? who knows? I have the 5 year guarentee and my installer registered it with Baxi for me so I have no issues with that either

“Rubbish boiler and rubbish service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by dfle_uk on 11/04/2012

I have a rented flat that has a Baxi boiler in it. I purchased the flat 5 years ago and at teh time the flat was 6 years old. I have had no end of trouble with the boiler. I now live in Canada and thought it would be a good idea to pay for the services of heateam as if anything goes wrong they should be able to deal with it. I have been extremely dissapointed with there engineers. I have had to get second oppinions on 3 occassions. One where they wanted to condemn the boiler as they suspected a leak in the flu. another plumber was hired to have a look and in a matter of minutes after talking to my property manager they found out the mark on the ceiling was not down to a flu leak but from a water leak from flat above that had been cleared up a tear prior. On a more recent occassion they have come out to work on the boiler and said that the flu inspection hatches have not been installed to the correct standards and that the problem with boiler is not clear and that they would have to start looking behind the wall. After I got another plumber to check I was told that the boiler issue was down to a part that was faulty and that any one who new what they were doing should have picked up on it and he also said that whoever suggested putting holes in walls was extremely incompetant. and as far as the flu inspection hatches are concirned there is nothing wrong with them and they have also been signed off in a porevious gas inspection. so in short dont get a Baxi boiler and if you are unfortunate enopugh to own one then dont bother with heateam as they do not know what they are doing with regards to these boilers. I pay 17.5 per month for that cover and as soon as I finish writing this I am going to cancel and speak to someone about taking them to small claims and getting back all the money I have paid them for a service I was not getting.

“Repeated problems - boiler not working”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 22/10/2011

We had one of these installed for our new kitchen in 2008 to replace an old boiler that had run for 20 years with no problems. Our boiler has serious faults. It broke down after two years with a fan fault that blew the circuit board. Baxi only replaced the fan and I had to pay for the new board. I have had occasional E133 faults and today it just won't reset so we have no hot water and need an engineer again. I'm regretting ever buying a Baxi and can just see years ahead of not knowing if it will work or not. A boiler should not break down twice in three and a half years. A recent Which report confirms the poor reliability of this brand.

Have the miss fortune of owning one of these by default. purchased the house outside the 28 day reg period. the previous owner forgot to register. 18 month and two faults later I am told that it will cost £270 to fix and reinstate the warenty. Poor boiler previous house no problems in 10 years. V poor service. Stay well clear. Forget about the unhelpful desk. call out a local and trusted fitter.

stop being lazy and flush the system out properly when you install it then you might not get blocked plate heat exchangers. as the techman said if you fit a new boiler onto a dirty system then you are going to get problems.

I had it fitted into a brand new pipe work and brand new rads all flushed prior to fitting but in last 2 years (been installed 3) have had nothing but problems with blocked heat exchanger etc, have had a power flush (which is didnt need) and this has still not rectified problem. Steer clear of this make nothing but problems!

a Block heat exchanger is not the boilers fault, bad installation is the cause of a block heat exchanger

We've had a 40he for nearly 5 years, Brand new CH system in an old house that had storage heaters previously. Pipes are as clean as a whistle. TBH it's failed so many times, is noisy in operation, and the engineers are 'variable'.
That being said it's been fixed for no charge several times, even if you do have to deal with the 'well its an old house mate, probably got dirty pipes' comment every single time...
Only problem is that I kind of expect it to fail bi-annually after the warranty has expired - could get pricey.

We had our Baxi Platinum fitted more than 2 years ago and have never had to call out an engineer for any faults at all. It produces constant hot water and our radiators heat up very quickly in the cold weather. We had a small radiator fitted in our airing cupboard and kept the slatted shelves so lovely warm towels. I would certainly recommend to a friend and several friends have had Baxi installed too. I have read some of the other comments and can't believe we are talking about the same boiler.
I am pleased I didn't read these reviews before I got my Baxi.

I have had the Platinum 28 for 4 yrs. It has now got a fan fault. Should be still under warranty. However, Baxi say I didn't register it for warranty. They have the date of fitting/model/know it's service dates etc/have my information details etc....but they want 260 pounds to visit because they say it wasn't registered for the warranty. I feel this is just an excuse. I would not recommend this firm.

I have had this in use for only a few weeks newly installed but gas consumption on a daily basis is about 4 units on the meter per day compared to 1.6 units on similar days on a Baxi Combi 105E. Should this boiler be at least as efficient in terms of usage as a much older Combi?

I have just noticed that my Baxi Combi HE circulating pump starts up once every 10 minutes or so (the little green light comes on) and runs for about 1 minute. Then I assume the flue fan kicks into operation for 2mins. I know that the pump should start for 1 minute once every 24 hours if it has not been used according to the user manual. The boiler was installed in March 2014. Any suggestions why this is happening?

I have only had boiler installed for 2 weeks and it continues to turn itself on and off during the night whenever it feels like it. I have had the receiver changed yesterday but this has not made a difference. I am worried that it comes on during the day when I am not there, and will end up costing me money. I have to set 5 timers on my one, but I have only programmed one to a certain temperature to come on at 16:00. but it is coming on between 4 & 5 in the morning then again at 6 and turning itself off at 7. I have paid over £3000 to have boiler and new radiators fitted and am very worried I have wasted my money. Any help would be appreciated.
