“Halifax Bereavement Centre. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by uaruman2 on 27/12/2009

Halifax Bereavement Centre.

In January of this year my father died and I have since tried to access details of an Account held by him prior to his death. At branch level things were fine and it was only when my branch decided to refer me to their Bereavement Centre, things started to go wrong.

A first they refused to deal with me saying that, altough I was an Executor,
they only dealt with solicitors. I then appointed a solicitor who then attempted to gain this information.

The transactions in this undisclosed account were found accidentally, and are the key to an alleged fraud by a third party totalling several hundred thousand pounds.

The Halifax are still refusing to disclose any information in respect of this account, although they are aware of the potential fraud, and have not yet replied to my solicitor six months after his initial enquiry.

It would appear that because of their lack of 'duty of care' in relation to my father, their major concern is one of litigation. At this moment in
time I'm not sure who is worse; the alleged fraudster or the Halifax Bank.

Several months ago this was passed on to the Ombudsman, who initially refused to believe my story. It was only when I sent copies of the full details they agreed to act on the matter. Guess what... they are not, at this moment in time, replying to the Ombudsman either.

Sunbees's Response to uaruman2's Review

We are also experiencing a nightmare with a similar situation... following the death of mother in law who had our childrens accounts in trust we have been unable to get anywhere despite letters from solicitors, ID etc being taken to branch - the bereavement centre advises one thing, the branch then the opposite - its costing us £30 a call or letter or email to the solicitor which so far totals in excess of 15.... a costly exercise to access what is by rights our childrens money!!! (not to mention the time off work to visit the branch as advised to the solicitor by the bereavement centre only to be told they cannot help after all!!!)... seems the right hands doesn't know what the left is doing!!!!
