bought one as a package from JML the skewers sent with it were of extremely poor quality posing a serious contamination risk both by cuttting hand and risk of steel shards being left in food. JML have been slow to respond to my concerns, and have just sent another set without commenting on the hazards posed by such a serious defect. Their customer care is generic it would appear. The young girl I spoke to on the phone was talking to me as if I was a 4 year old, and could not understand that a, I had been injured by a faulty item and b, it was dangerous to sell these items as they may contaminate the food. My big concern is that it is obvious no detailed checks are made to their products from the far east, its off the container and off to the buyer without much quality control. So beware!!!

The JML oven cooks perfectly well when its working....bulb expires in anything from 1 month to 1 year. I have had 4 now: first one 3 years ago - just out of warranty bulb went - could not get it repaired so disposed of the oven. Bought 2 with 2 years extended warranty (£10 extra for 1). 2 years and 2 weeks later both bulbs gone. Thinking the warranty was still valid sent the lids from 2 ovens - to save sending complete ovens with even more postage - in 1 box recorded delivery (£14.50) back to JML for repair. Phone call then from JML SAYING OUT OF WARRANTY and that they would have needed the complete ovens anyway but prepared to replace bulbs for £15.50 each! I refused that kind offer expecting postage costs as well. I asked them to send my lids back to me - "we can't do that as we have disposed of them!"..But they are my property and I want them! After a heated conversation in which I explained I would do everything possible to bring their bad service and lack of goodwill and illegal dumping of my lids to all and sundry, a supervisor's advice was sought... After some delay "As a gesture of goodwill we can offer you one replacement oven free." I accepted and it has arrived. Don't buy the JML oven buy the Andrew James version from Amazon - it has loads of extras and guess what? - A free bulb which can be easily changed...Voila!

I bought my first one in Oct 2010 - after 6 months the element stopped working - JML replaced the whole oven under guarantee - the replacement has been working until yesterday and the fans packed in - I contacted JML who said it was out of warranty and couldnt help and suggested I contacted an electrician and advised the fan cant be bought seperately - and mentioned they did offer a 3 year extended warranty but I didnt take them up on the offer - and they were sorry but couldnt help - I mentioned electrical items like fridges, washing machines etc should last more than 1 year and you shouldnt have to 'pay' for extended warranties. The whole family used it daily - its being missed already! I will go out and buy another and will probably pay for the warranty in view of the comments on here!

I have just had this over the past 18 months and was very disappointed to realise that it has a very short lifespan - and as a result of that it is not good value for money. My boyfriend is on his third one after the same period so they are not realiable - luck of the draw really I would say. The glass container can become very hot, during and after use, and can be slippery when handling with wet hands namely when being washed so care has to be exercised when it is being held or on the move generally. It can easily chip when knocked and during washing. As a plus, it cooks food quickly, very well and works out cheaper than conventional oven but had I known about the short lifespan would not have purchased one and will not be bother with a replacement. I am writing to the company to ascertain whether new cover can be bought but I doubt it.

Like many others, I bought a JML Halogen Oven and just after the guarantee ran out, the oven fan unit gave up. The halogen bulb would still function, but with no air movement, the bulb would switch on and off within seconds. It went to the tip, and until the Halogen Oven durability is sorted out, I won't be buying another one. While it worked, I liked it, but forking out £50 ish for something that lasts just over the year doesn't make good sense.

Bought a JML Halogen Oven just over a year ago and was absolutely delighted with the performance and the results. Perfectly suited for cooking for two people, extensions are now available if more volume is needed. Great to be able to see the food inside without having to open the lid. Everything cooks well - pastries, casseroles, roast, fish. Relatively easy to clean. So, the idea behind a halogen oven is great. BUT! The electrical design of the JML halogen oven totally spoiled my initial positive impressions once the halogen element blew up and I had to change it. I ordered a new element, thinking it should be a piece of cake changing it myself, since its life was obviously about a year, and one would have to replace the element that frequently. But I was on for a very unpleasant surprise... First, there are no instructions in the manual for how to change the element, which is no wonder, as it has quite clearly not been designed to allow changing! So, I had to start searching for information on-line from the forums, and, eventually, to figure it out myself. Second, it turned out that you have to basically take the whole lid apart, fighting sticky clips, tight nuts and bolts, cables preventing you from properly separating and putting the lid sections out of your way, etc., but only to find out you cannot simply disconnect the cables of the old element and connect the new one because the cables are not fitted with connectors or terminals but are permanently soldered, or otherwise bound, with other cables and isolated with permanent irremovable caps! So, I actually had to cut the cables of the old element and make my own connections with the cables of the new element... I lost good two hours of my time to sort that out, using knowledge and a lot of tools which not everybody would readily have at home. I now know that I can by a whole new lid for about 20 ponds, but that is not a very green solution - we already generate too much rubbish on this planet. I don't know whether other brands of halogen ovens have a sensible design solution for changing the halogen element, but if there are such, I would definitely recommend a halogen oven of that brand to my friends. I would not recommend a JML one though, unless someone finds joy in exercising their electrician's skills every time they have to change the element.

We are just going through the same agony. Hubby has disassembled the unit and taken off the plastic caps and unfortunately the groups of wires have come apart and he is not sure which one to put with which one in the new element. Having gone through it all yourself, Desita, can you help??? Would be very grateful as I am lost without it. We live in Spain and probably can't get a replacement lid easily or would go that route.

My JML Halogen has just died of a blown bulb element. I have had it for 2 years and loved every moment of using it.I thought I would send for a replacement bulb as advertised, but my husband has tried all ways to remove the old bulb, but so many screws etc etc to remove. I phoned JML and they said it should be an electrician that does it. Just not worth the repair cost and bother, so very sadly I have scrapped it. I can't possibly do without one, but afraid the next one will not be JML. 2 years is fine so long as one can replace spares easily.

I have been using this JML halogen oven for over 2 years now and it was very good until the thermostat broke, simple little thing this thermostat but I have search high and low and it is just not available anywhere. Wrote to JML and they cannot provide me one, found some in China, cost only US$1.00 but minimum order is 5000 units. JML has built this oven NOT to be repairable and thus very non green, cos every time something goes wrong with it, you have to scrap it.

had the first JML Halogen Oven in may 2009,had to send it back about 4 months ago,the element blew.
The replacement has just suffered the same fate, I did not send this back but requested a new lamp, which was kindly sent.
It is not an easy job to replace, have to take the whole thing to bits.
Took me 4 hrs, and crimps and crimping tool required (I am a qualified electrician).
In my opinion the JML Halogen Oven is a great idea, my wife loves it, but any electrician will tell you that halogen lamps do not like grease,it shortens the life of them. Thats why you should not touch security light halogen lamps with your fingers (grease).
Therefore my final opinion is that because of the above reasons, I feel the design is poor. For example you cook a chicken the greasy fumes must coat the element and you can not really clean the lid properly because it contains all the electrics.
But I'll keep replacing the elements as long as I can.....because its a very useful item and on the power consumption side is very economical.

I love the JLM Halogen Oven, it's easy to use, can see what is happening inside. Makes great light fluffy cakes, perfectly crispy roast potatoes. But, and a big but, where do you place the lid safely whilst your checking the 'bounce' on cakes, for instance. Because the heat source is in the lid. Not child friendly, as the heat source is inside the underside of the lid there is nowhere to store it safely whilst you are getting things in and out of the oven. the 'tongs' are cumbersome and not much use if using other tins and bakeware products... for instance. I used the silicone 'mini muffins' cases which were individual pieces and placed them in a baking tin (trays not big enough to put in on their own) recommend purchasing a pizza base to cover the grill plates. The tongs didn't fit around both tray and tin.

Hi , I too have an halogen oven from jml I swear by it. I've had mine for about three years and now my bulb has gone too, really missing my oven hate using the main gas oven!!!
Well I've done some research and you can buy the bulbs and fit it yourself, they say it's easy!! So I'm going to give it a go when I get my replacement!! A replacement cost around £10.00-£12.00 , but make sure it's the right one for your oven. It seams a waste if you have to replace the whole oven.
I hope that helps, good luck x
