“jml halogen oven”

★★☆☆☆

written by angelina48 on 06/09/2012

I first purchased jml halogen oven in 2009,it lasted 6months,I got in touch with jml to which I did send it back and got new one.Now my halogen bulb has blown so now with all reviews can see i am not going to be able to get it fixed.I think jml should not do this to their customers and with this recession on we are having to go out and purchase a new one,for what to last from 6months,maximum a year when the warranty runs out.Get your act together JML and help us to fix our products.

“JML halogen oven”

I repair electrical equipment including JML halogen ovens, the problem is getting spare parts, JML don't manufacture any thing and only badge them, they have no interest in suppling parts for any of their products. I have even tried to contact the manufacturers in China who do not want to know unless you place an oeder for 10,000 units!! I would recomend not to buy anything from JML as they are only interested in selling a product with no after service!!

“Great oven, poorly built.”

★★☆☆☆

written by Kagoose on 17/07/2011

I received my jml oven as a present. I used it for Sunday lunches most weeks and thought that it was brilliant. I was really disappointed when 13 months later the thermostat broke. We cannot find a replacementand we were shocked at the poor quality of the parts used. At a time when we recycle and reuse to save this planet, it makes no sense to have to buy new and not able to make a cheaply priced repair. This would be the true recycling.

“My halogen oven has worked well and been a boon for 2...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/12/2010

My halogen oven has worked well and been a boon for 2 years. I never used the ordinary oven. It has saved on my fuel bills. HOWEVER the fan is now making noises which indicate it will fail soon and JML just DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. There is no arrangement for servicing. If it was within its guarantee they would take it back throw it away and give me a new one - BUT after that - forget it! That's what comes from buying stuff made in China! Pity - as the idea is a good one.I wish I had known they were not repairable..no local electrician will touch it. Update from reviewer: I have also found something of interest about why these halogen ovens go phut. On another review site someone said: I have read other reviews and have noticed a number of complaints regarding rust appearing around the inner workings of the heating unit resulting in failure. The rusting - (corrosion) - is a result of the user failing to remove the heating unit (lid) once the food has finished cooking. This is most important and to be fair, the instructions do tell you to remove the lid once cooking is complete. Whilst the unit is in operation, very hot DRY air is circulating within the cooker. Once the timer has switched the unit off, hot dry air is no longer circulating. Instead the cooked food starts to release moisture in the form of steam. Steam is not good for the halogen oven. Get the lid off and allow it to escape. That is very useful to know I think!

My husband wanted me to try this one out and that is why I am on here.To see exactly what others this of it.I agree with you, that it is a useful piece of knowledge to make sure the lid is removed after it shuts off.Even if they do state it in writting.I will be sure to transfer the meal from the oven to a dish before I serve it.Thank you for the information.

“I bought a Halogen Cooker from Coopers of Stortford...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/08/2010

I bought a Halogen Cooker from Coopers of Stortford five months ago. It worked perfectly until last week when the appliance went dead. Following instructions I took great care to ensure the cooking lid never came into contact with water so unless the thing died a death I have no explanation. I emailed Coopers about the problem and they promised to get back to me 10 days ago. So far not a word. I would suggest caution before buying one of these cookers as it seems there are serious design flaws that need addressing

“First one worked for 11+ months - no complaints...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/01/2010

First one worked for 11+ months - no complaints whatsoever, then there was a loud bang and a bright flash and all of our fuses blew.

JML eventually replaced it after almost 4 months' delay.

The first replacement we received blew all of our fuses on day after delivery so it was sent back.

The second replacement had a small chip at top of glass bowl and the light/element recently burnt out after 3 months.

We're currently awaiting to hear from JML re. replacing or repairing it.

This would be a really top class product if it was more reliable - or even if it was easier to purchase and replace the light element.

I sent the first jml halogeb oven back because it had a chip in the glass. You need to think about where you are going to put the lid. After an apple crumble fiasco, I've just sold mine on E-bay after keeping it for 3 months and have just bought a Cookworks Signature oven from Argos, which at least heats the food at the bottom as well as at the top and which I rate more highly, although I've lined it with foil to keep the heat in.

“The cooking times are innacurate on the JML Halogen...”

★★★☆☆

written by June Stoneman on 08/04/2009

The cooking times are innacurate on the JML Halogen Oven unless you like your meat rare and it was not fast compared to our conventional gas oven.
The cooking times & temperatures recommended are not accurate.
The instructions say you must use cold water and washing up liquid when cleaning whereas the TV demo uses hot water. Either way it does not do a thorough job in washing out.
All in all it has been a disapointment. Its very good as an complimentary appliance to the others in your kitchen ie gas oven / microwave etc but in no way can it replace everything.

“- bulky and cumbersome .... ”

★★☆☆☆

written by adv1066 on 13/05/2011

- bulky and cumbersome ....
- product needs some sort of lid stand when you want to remove hot food or gain access to the inside of glass bowl ... element and plate very hot and scorches surface if placed face down - cannot place any way else ... but face down
- REALLY really difficult to clean and degrease
- letters wipe off glass and plastic cover
- forget about maintaining or stripping appliance ... nuts and bolts rust up
- fan becomes noisy ... but cannot investigate why ... bolts won't come undone .... rusted onto thread
- bulb dirty ... cannot remove to carefully clean ... then noticed that wires are "glued" to bulb ends and wire harness cannot be detached to replace bulb ... so ... if bulb goes ... so does the appliance .. into the bin ... a waste of £money from this perspective ...

the cleaning-(non)ability and bulb replacement is the Achilles heal of this appliance ... pity they do not show you this on the TV channel ...

I have spent ages trying to find someone who might fix my oven, They all suck their teeth and indicate that there is nothing they can do. I THINK that JML provide a replacement element but other than that they have little interest in customer service. They flatly refused to tell me who the manufacturer was for a direct complaint. If you bought from John Lewis or Lakeland, they are both good companies and should be helpful. Having said that, with Chinese goods there is often little they can do.

I bought an Andrew James digital halogen oven. If I want to set oven for 60 minutes I have to wait for about 20 minutes waiting for the seconds to go up to set it, it doesn't go up in minutes only seconds. This shouldn't be so. Am I doing something wrong? Help please.

Sorry - this was passed to me from ReviewCentre. I have a JML halogen oven - not digital. I hope you find an answer to your problem. Good luck PS For what it's worth, I love my oven. I haven't used the normal one since I moved here two years ago. It's used every day and is still going strong.

I also got this from the review centre and also cannot help as mine was a JML - I say WAS because it died just a year and a few days after I bought it, I cannot understand the problem, Don't you just turn the dial to 60? Try googling Andrew James halogen instructions There IS a cookbook available for this cooker on Amazon btw
