Hey, It Works!

The Marina fish net breeder is a useful, functional piece of kit that fulfils a vital role for the aquarist who's dealing with livebearer fry. It's a simple construction consisting of two flat square frames and four short pole-like attachments that locate easily into the holes on the square frames' undersides, providing you with a hollow box framework over which the supplied fine mesh net is placed and drawn tight with the drawstring. Two flexible soft metal tabs at the top of the net breeder unit then allow the unit to be hung onto the side of practically any aquarium as they bend nicely to fit the contours of the tank rim.

The item can be used to hold a gravid female livebearer until she drops her fry, but I find that the difficulty of knowing quite how long the female has to go until birthing means that the fish can end up cooped up in the trap for a prolonged period; this is no fault of the trap - it's just nature. I suggest allowing the female to birth in the aquarium, and then using the net breeder as a nursery for the fry until they're large enough not to be considered food by the other fish.

Having used one of these for over twelve years, I know the value of it and it's simplicity is to be admired. The rest? That comes down to good animal husbandry; something which can't be bought in a box.

I Purchased A Marina Multi Breeder From Our Only L

I purchased a Marina Multi Breeder from our only local pet store, at $14.00.

The instructions, such as they were, were on the box in extremely small type font. Impossible to read without a magnifying glass. Blue background white or yellow typeface. Instructions were not helpful. Drawings were not helpful at all. There are several pieces and there are no instructions on how to insert them. The local pet store owner was no help.

Are there good instructions on line?

What would I like to have known at time of purchaes? - a little conversation about how to set it up.
