“I bought my Garmin 265WT to replace my ageing Medion...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/05/2011

I bought my Garmin 265WT to replace my ageing Medion after a recommendation from a friend , wish I'd never bothered. Although the maps seem to be fairly accurate, the spoken instructions are dreadful indicating that a turn is neccessary 200 metres before the actual junction even though there may be other turns before the one required. Pronunciation of road names is very poor mostly due to incomplete words. We have just done a 250 mile round trip to Cornwall and back, this system sent us down the most difficult of tracks (not really roads) that were only just wide enough for a single smalish car, with no passing places. There is an irritating large white arrow that indicates the turn direction, on occasions this covers other turns that would be useful to be aware of. I now intend to sell my unit and replace it with something else, at his time I don't know what, probably a Medion, but it certainly won't be a Garmin. There is one further irritation, although probably not used by many, and that is there is a currency / measurement etc. conversion facility, rather stupidly Garmin have seen fit to make the default currency US dollars, this cannot be changed to UK Pounds. I contacted Garmin and basically was told "Tough" only much more politely. The one bonus point for this model is that the Bluetooth phone connection is excellent, sadly this is insufficient to make me want to keep it. Overall rating 1 out of ten, a garage map would be better.

Lovely piece of equipment totaly spoilt by garmin customer support you need a second life time to download the free maps, been at it know for over 20 hours, Garmin are of no help are of no help, they told me to try an internet cafe for a better connection even with high speed connection it tells me its still another 9 hours

Also I find out now that when your maps are out date it tells you every time you switch it on, very annoying obviously they make it that way to try and force you into purchasing an update at an inflated price, dont buy it
