The Craigie Inn is a hidden gem near Kilmarnock and one that you should seek out if you're in the area. I hadn't been for years but have recently found my way back there! There has been a change of ownership and the quality of the food and service are excellent. The environment itself is cosy and welcoming with a traditional log fire which ensures a relaxing atmosphere. On cold days it's a joy to get the table at the fire. I visited on Saturday 25th October at lunchtime and had a delicious meal. For a main course I had a special of panfried halibut with a white wine and asparagus cream. This was accompanied by seasonal vegetables. The halibut was cooked to perfection. For dessert, I had a rhubarb crumble with custard which was also delicious. The Winter menu contains a lot of traditional fayre such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and steak pie but there are also top quality steaks and fish dishes so there is something for everyone. Main courses cost around the £10 mark and desserts come in at around £4.50 but the portions are huge so represent excellent value for money. The service is attentive and friendly which helped make the visit a thoroughly enjoyable one. Highly recommended.
