Don’t bother with this company! I called to inform them that I took my property back from the tenant and due to renovation work’s the property will be empty for about 3 months, when they heard this they told me that they cannot insure the property and cancelled my policy straight away. I understand if I was a new customer asking for a new quote fine but with an existing policy that’s a joke!

This company has no values and tries to reject every possible landlords claims saying it's a maintenance issue. The engineer visits the property and doesn't do anything other than reporting the problem. Don't even bother to fix it temporarily. What ever is the claim they have a stupid reason to reject it. It's complete waste of money to take this landlords insurance.

They will do anything to not pay a penny or do any work for the money you pay them!

Tenant left me with over £38000 malicious damage, claim protection paid out just over £5000, and that only after I had to remind them of loss of rent!!! Keep away! No protection like this is worth the premium!!!

We have never made a claim on insurance or had any insurance issues previously. Took out Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) with Simply Business. Went through web form, selected Simply Businesses job title of “Tax Consultant” which best suited our business of being exactly that…Tax Consultants. Premium appeared to be extremely cheap, a third of the price of others, clarified some information with insurers before proceeding, ensured the essential and requested retro active cover in place, couldn’t see a reason why not. DO NOT TAKE OUT INSURANCE WITH THIS COMPANY. 10 1/2 months into the policy year, we were considering restructuring our business and only in connection with that, we sought some information from Simply Business regarding the PII in place. Told by the advisor that we did not have retro active cover as advised when taking out the policy and that he would need to go away and check on this and what could be done. He called back 2 days later, stated we did actually have retro active cover as standard on this policy but said he wanted more details about what we actually did as tax advisors as this term “covers a broad range of activities”. The advisor was given a full explanation of what what we do, as tax advisors, which is advise on tax matters, he went away, had a quick chat with someone, came back and said it would need to go to the underwriters - to see if they would insure us - over 10 1/2 months into the policy year!! After a further 2 days of waiting to hear if we had this essential cover, we received a call nearing close of business on a Friday afternoon telling us the underwriters were not prepared to cover us after all and would be cancelling our cover in 1 month’s time - 15 days before the end of our policy year. This did not make sense to cover a business for 11.5 months but not for the remaining 15 days. When asked, we were told that the underwriters did not cover our trading activities (which are standard tax advice, U.K. based, not tax planning or tax avoidance or anything giving rise to concerns) and a letter would be “coming out” to us explaining this, as of writing this has not arrived. The effect of an insurer cancelling insurance is pretty much catastrophic on a business as other insurers will not or are reluctant to deal with a business for which insurance is cancelled / refused / declined. As professionals, naturally we are unwilling to trade without PII. The effect of this could well be that Simply Business has destroyed our business and our ability to trade through no fault of our own. It borders on a spiteful act to cancel a policy in full knowledge of all the consequences that go with that for our very small business - and why do this with only 15 days to run until the policy ends? If Simply Business had any real concerns they would have cancelled with immediate effect, not in a month, with 15 days to go on the policy. At no point on their web form does Simply Business have a sub category to further expand upon the description of a tax advisor and at no point during telephone contact prior to taking out the policy was the role description of tax advisor further explored by Simply Business as being an issue. Very poor indeed, very disappointing and very unprofessional of Simply Business who want to be seen as championing small businesses. Extremely worrying for other business allegedly “covered” by Simply Business too - as in all probability, you are not if your role description does not fit with the underwriters, on that particular day. So if you want insurers who destroy your business, shop with Simply Business, they’ll have no trouble doing that for you.

In Aug 2017 Simply Business agreed to send me a cheque for £25 if I took up a second landord insurance with them which I did. Two months later there is still no sign of the cheque. After complaining 3 weeks ago, I had their manager contacted me directly and apologised, etc. and promised it will be resolved but so far, still no progress to date. According to the manager, it's only a £25 cheque. But to me, it's more than that - it is a matter of trust. If SB cannot resolve a simple matter of a £25 cheque, can I trust the company to handle any insurance claim when needed? Definitely not!! I feel tricked into buying the second insurance with SB in the first place. I am a multiple property owner and my lesson is: never buy insurance from Simply Business again!

Have twice renewed policy and taken money from my credit card without any warning. They say they sent emails but absolutely not. Premium has almost doubled in 2 years. Can't download the policy documents from their website and still waiting for them to do something about it .I am now going to approach my credit card provider to see what can be done to stop them taking further payments from my cradit card account.

Despite the name, they are simply brokers. Buggers raised premium from first year £250 to 350 for no reason. Auto-renewal,screw customers and I was too busy to see it due to a court case. Lousy cancellation terms as well. Use Direct Line...only £220 .

I was recently dumped by this bunch following six years claims free business partnership. They dumped me because I am a self-employed archery instructor. The name of my micro-business is: [email protected]. The clue is in the name. PILLOCKS! I would certainly cross the street to avoid this lot in the future!

Be very careful. At point of review this company simply takes the money from your account. I asked several times for them not to do this, but this morning I notice they have taken £116.23... How dare they? Now starts the inevitable fight to get it returned...

Perhaps this is the only way to get a reply!!!! E-mailed to cancel my insurance on a property I no longer own prior to renewal date. Sadly the monies were still removed from my bank account. I have contacted twice since - WITH NO RESPONSE. The customer care is appalling they need to stop stroking your own egos and start listening and communicating with their customers.

These lot love a good cold call. However, they're not so eager to communicate once they have your money. Having purchased a policy online, one would expect to receive the policy documents fairly swiftly. Apparently not. Annoying when you need them to procure a contract and are eager to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. I've been told to expect a response within 48 hours... But let's face it, insurance is just legalised extortion and these are some of the cheapest 'hoods' around - at least for a first time quote.

After being with them for 5 years with very little contact I needed to upgrade my public liability cover. After god knows how many irritatingly unhelpful phone calls as no responses to my emails they cancelled my policy! A friend recommended me to a more professional company. They sorted it all out very professionally via email in one day with straight forward questions at a very competitive price and I am now fully insured again. Just how and why this firm made such a mess of a straight forward building/building maintenance public liability cover god only knows. Even the new broker could not understand it. The difference it made dealing with someone professional was incredible. Upshot is if you are looking for muppets to insure you then you’ve hit the jackpot. If you want a professional service then I would move along.

Took out a land lord insurance with them last year, though their quote was not competitive, things seems to be ok, however 3 weeks before the renewal date received their renewal quote which has increased 50% so told them that I shall not be renewing my policy. Nine days before the current policy expire they emailed to thank me for renewing my policy with them, I replied to their email telling them in no uncertain term that I do not want to renew my policy with them. Two days later they stole money from my bank account - they obviously kept my bank detail from previous year - without my knowledge. Told them again that I do not wish to renew my policy and return my money. Another email from them to tell me that I had cancelled my policy, despite the fact that I have been telling them not renew it. Now they want cancellation fees, though the policy have not started. They just ignored your request or instruction and fraudulently renewed your policy hoping you would not notice and charge you for their behaviour. You have been warned!

Tried to get a quote for buildings insurance for my business. They said they could not do it as our turnover was too high! They should rename themselves Simply very very small business.
written by paulenew on 10/08/2016
Sadly after a couple of years of generally good experiences with Simply Business, I've just been stung by their automatic renewal sham - 25% increase in premium followed by theft of the money from my account 9 days before the policy was due to renew. No quote, no reminder. Company had no interest in resolving the matter, so fraudulent payment claim put in with my bank to recover the money. As a heads up for anyone else dealing with this unpleasant excuse of a company - you can permanently flag them as blocked with your bank: this won't stop them taking from you at (or well before!!) renewal time, but it will guarantee return of the money within 24 hours. And they get fined, so that's good too
