OVER 40 years experience with German Shepherds I was told, booked my 3 GSD's in for the 3 week training program mainly for the pup to learn some manners when out on the lead with her mum and dad. My boy had to come home as he was ill and had lost over 2 kg's of weight before they told us. Another of my dogs escaped her kennel and the compound and spent the day running around Scilly Isles Esher in and out of the traffic. Can't say that any training was given to any of them.

Hi, very sad to hear about the treatment your dogs received, we had a terrible experience at Royvon Coventry with our dog.
Based on there advice he was booked onto the "Behavioural modification programme" due to him being stressed and nervous around busy traffic and lots of people.
It transpired we were lied to from the outset, from the initial meetings/discussions about the course content to what actually happened.
But after numerous emails, telephone calls and finally a visit after the first two weeks we established that he had not been out of the compound to experience any of the areas he had problems with and no training had taken place, due they said to him still bonding with the trainer and staff.
After lengthy conversations with the Operations manager and so called trainer we were given assurances that all aspects would be worked on and additional training would be given to him.
The handover with the trainer took place in a very quite village, 2/3 cars passed and I think 3/4 people were around, it was not as busy as the environments he copes with at home it was a joke.
There was no instructions from the trainer and she just kept throwing treats on the floor in front of him as he walked along the path.
The Chief executive and operations manager would not reply to our complaint or answer any of the question I put them either on the telephone or email, in fact the CE said any future correspondence with him would receive the same none response.
I was even offered a small refund which the CE then reneged on.
Both the CH and OM are disingenuous and untrustworthy characters.

I IMPLORE ANY ONE CONSIDERING TAKING THERE PET TO Royvon to be very careful and look deeper into reviews about them they are only after money and do not care about the welfare of the dogs.
ROYVON Coventry are a ABSOLUTE DISGRACE !!!!.

“TERRIBLE Royvon dog training. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BOYCEEE on 01/08/2018

Our dog was enrolled on a 3 week behavioural modification programme to help him become more relaxed and deal with noisy busy traffic, crowds of people and bicycles. We were advised that his training would start within 2/3 days as this would also help him to settle and bond with trainers, that he would be taken offsite to experience the areas that made him stressed/anxious. We were mislead from the start as he was not taken out of the compound for the first 2 weeks, this was due they said because he was still bonding with the trainers. He was finally taken offsite on a couple occasions to a very small village with very little traffic and 2/3 people walking along, and not the busy environments we were assured he would experience. BUT these offsite visits only happened after we raised our concerns and complained. When we went for the 2 hour handover which was supposed to include showing us how to handle him in in the areas that stressed him out we were taken to the same small village which consisted of 4 people and lots of parked cars and very little moving traffic, and this only lasted for approximately 3o minutes. After assessing our dog for a week it was very clear he had not had any real training and his ability to deal with his problem areas and stress had not changed. I complained about the results of the 3 weeks but was met with stories and disingenuous response`s which was mainly from the operations manager and the chief executive of Royvon who seem to have a script that they both stick to and just continue to repeat the same mantra when ever i asked them to provide a detailed response to my questions. Because of the chief executives negative and dismissive replies we had our dog assessed by a different fully qualified trainer who had bonded with him within a couple of hours and actually started working with him, by the end of the day after 3x 30 minute sessions our dog was walking by and with bicycles without showing any stress or anxiety. I informed Royvon Chief executive of our experience with new trainer but they were dismissive and would still not provide any detailed answers to my questions, but continued to quote me the same mantra every time, that we should complete the two follow up sessions which consisted of 2 hours per month for 2 months. However due to the extremely poor results we had experienced I asked them to provide details of what the 2 hours would consists of but they would NOT. I have been in contact with other customers of ROYVON DOG TRAINING who had very similar experiences and some where there pets were returned quite ILL, and also received very dismissive responses to there concerns and worries about there pets. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY ARE ONLY AFTER YOUR MONEY. They do not care about the welfare of the dogs that stay with them and the so called training they provide is very poor if not non existent. For your pets and your benefit please look in depth at the various review sites as the poor ones always seem to be way down the lists. BE WARNED.

I agree totally just had an awful experience with Coventry - they are not even bothering to reply to me as I have asked for a refund on the training. Have you been in contact with other people who have had a bad experience I am considering going to trading standards? Many thanks.

Hi,
I have endeavoured too but although people said they were prepared to support me after the initial contact there was no follow up from them.
I even supplied my telephone number to one who said they would contact me after there holidays and although I emailed them again I still had no response.
I would be quite happy to call you and try to help but I am fairly new to these sites and reluctant to put my email or number on them.
Is there anyway to send a private message on this site?, if yes send me your email or telephone number and I will contact you.
Kind Regards.

Hi,
Been a while I know but just wondered if you have had any response from Royvon Chief executive who we found to be rude and abrupt in his replies and would not take on board any of our worries or concerns.
For although at one point I was offered a negligible amount of compensation the chief executive even reneged on this.

Or if you followed through with trading standards and if they proved to be of any help in bringing this disingenuous company and its dodgy boss to book.

Regards.

Hi wish I had read these comments before I paid 850 to have my gs trained. He came back 4kg lighter and had a bite on his head which they said happened when another gs went for him they obviously missed all the bites on his shoulder which we discovered when washing him. He is just as bad at pulling and even though I have kept up with their recall method he is totally ignoring it now. We sent in a very friendly dog and people loving sloppy dog to get back a dog that now barks at everything tries to chase cars and I am totally unable to walk him. Did you contact trading standards.

“AVOID - Behaviour Modification Programme”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Freemanqm259 on 14/03/2017

We went away for just over two weeks. Our dog had a couple of problems one which was with other dogs. So we thought logically about where to put our dog whilst we were away and we thought a behaviour medication programme would be good, he will get training and be able to interact with other dogs for the duration. Well, we regret it deeply. The walking methods royvon use were with slip collar which seriously hurt our dogs throat and he had no voice, he couldn’t bank for weeks after getting back home. Although when we were away we saw our dog playing with other dogs, which was a relief at the time as we thought he didn’t like them, he’s now petrified of people, strangers. We noticed this within a week or so of getting back when he tried to bite a family member who came round to visit us. WE thought maybe a one off until it happened again to one of our friends. The fear and anxiety was so upsetting to see. We then contacted a trainer and we were on a 6 week course which didn’t really help too much and he recommended seeing a behaviourist, so our next point of call was a behaviourist, she did a full history on our dog and we told her everything on the first consultation. We had videos of our dog before the behaviour modification programme at Royvon and after and she was shocked and felt very sorry for our dog as she can see his stress levels were through the roof. So the past few months we have changed our dogs diet, had to give him supplements to try and reduce his stress levels. For the past few months the behaviourist has been at the end of each email / call and has attended 5-6 times to do follow ups and she feels we can continue with her (which is pretty pricey) but the progress is going to be very slow as we cant even get past basics to begin the real training. So here we are, we’ve been referred again to a ‘Vet behaviourist’ as she is a vet as well, she’ll be able to give medication / assistance to help our dog get some of his life back. This is not going to be a quick fix, it’s been a year of training and money spent on professionals. It’s been a stressful year for us and our pet, financially crippling with £1500 spent on Royvons behaviour modification programme’ over £400 on the behaviourist and another £500 + on the vet behaviourist, we didn’t think he’s need so much help otherwise we’d of claimed on his insurance some time ago. We’re now going through his insurance with the vet behaviourist which is a relief and we hope she is the right person for the job. It’s not been easy, we have had to change our lives a lot, we are now expecting our first child in a couple of months and we pray we don’t have to do the unthinkable. DON’T put your dog on this programme, I believe you’ll regret it. The programme did nothing and is a waste of money, all it did for us was create aggression. We think if we had put him in kennels it would have been £10-15 per day and he’d of still got to play with the dogs etc. I don’t think positive reinforcement was used as we have had 3 professional tell us that it’s rare dogs actually go to jump up and bite someone unless provoked in such manor which shouldn’t of happened.

I agree, the place is dirty and not as it seems in the website- also dogs only get trained for 45 mins a day!!! and let out once for 45 minute activity. The sound of barking there is like they are all in pain and maximum stress.

*********STAY AWAY FROM ROYVON Coventry******, Only after your money and senior management do not care about the dogs in there care.

Hi, I could not agree more our dog was enrolled on the BM programme which turned out to be a complete waste of money and we did not see any reduction in his stress or anxiety levels. It seems he was locked up apart from approximately 45minutes a day and although we were promised he would be exposed to his problem areas and start training within 1 to 2 days.
We established during a visit to see him and through emails that he was still supposedly bonding with the trainer and other staff for the first two weeks and that he had still not left the compound for any off site training or exposer to the problem areas he struggled with.
Although we and other people we are aware of were assured by the staff and videos we viewed on line which were posted by the staff included obedience training when I complained about the excessive bonding period, not being taken out of compound and from our visit that no obedience training had taken place the Chief executive and Operations manager insisted that obedience training was not part of BM programme, someone is lying and we and our dog suffered as result.
After various email and telephone discussions I received a very abrupt response from CE saying that any future correspondence to them would be met with the same unresponsive and basically negative reply.
The CE & OM will not answer any of the questions I have asked of them and just keep saying you need to complete the 1.5 hr? per month for 3 months follow up sessions but due to extremely upsetting 3 weeks residential I asked them to quantify the content and format of the sessions, THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY DETAILS.

DO NOT EXPOSE YOUR PET TO ROYVON they are locked up for most of the day the conditions are dirty and training very poor indeed.

If "Freemanqm259" sees this review I would like to make contact with you, however new to these sites so unsure how to go about this. Kind regards.

Our dog couldn't be happier. She is spooked by other dogs but within a short time she is in playgroup with others. This is her FOURTH time there. She loves the handlers and is very happy there. She is now EIGHT and always learns something new in the training sessions. She is a puller but the slip lead has never caused any damage there. She is as good as gold there. Treated well.

“DONT GO THERE!”

written by Hannahp446 on 02/08/2016

My dog was sent here to be trained by me and my partner. From all the pictures and everything we say we thought he was doing great! But then we went for the hand over session and he was still showing signs of the same problems. Jumping up being one of them. When we saw him he started to jump up, even though this was one of the problems, another thing when we took him for a walk on the hand over session he was still pulling. Even though we have been told that he won't pull, then they said he will pull at first just walk in the other direction when he pulls. After the hand over session we went home. We had done everything they told us to do to stop him from "undoing" his training. But he wouldn't stop. There was no training done. We later confirmed that when we had to take him to a different company who also said he wasn't trained at all. After we took him to the other company he was fantastic after. I would not recommend this. I would say a waste of money just to see some pictures.

AVOID AVOID AVOID  My dog spent over two months with them and came back just as bad as he was when he went in. A visit to a third party, reputable dog trainer, confirmed that he was not trained at all. So for £3,000, all Royvon did with my dog is board him with the other dogs and take pictures of him. Oh, I nearly foget to mention; my dog was attacked by the manager's Husky and I didn't even get a hint of an apology!!! Waste of money!

“Do alot of research before you book”

written by on 10/05/2015

I booked my dog in with the understanding that the package came with 2 day post training session. Whilst I appreciate that I was given 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon on the day I collected Daisy, the first part of the session was just myself and the trainer talking me through techniques and the afternoon was spent with me walking Daisy on the lead and doing the 'sit' exercise control and then 5 minutes where Daisy was passed to 2 'known' members of staff and then tried with a 3rd who was not confident and therefore trainer did not push the task, so I was not really shown how to manage her aggression towards strangers. there was no instruction regarding how to manage her with other dogs, another reason I had highlighted when booking her in. Trtainer told me he had to be with her when all the dogs were out together as she was a 'bully' and if he was not there she was exercised with only 1 or 2 other dogs - not really showing or teaching me how to manage the situation, other than to suggest using a bottle filled with sand/ pebbles to throw near her if she became 'dominant'. The website states that owners will get 1.Welcome text 2.Assessment call 3.Access to dedicated trainer's Facebook page 4.Photos added to Facebook twice weekly 5.Notes added each week to Facebook 6.Weekly telephone call 7.Final week video I appreciate that staff are there to work with the dogs and not spend days at the pc sending updates, but the only time I actually got responses about her wellbeing were when I sent 'prompter' emails, so I had 2 brief emails over the 3 week period. I did not get a welcome text, or assessment call and didn't get details of the dedicated page until late on in week 2 and then there were only 2 posts for daisy, neither of which had any notes to refer to. I received no calls at all during the 3 week stay. I felt that this area of customer service was seriously lacking against the statement of the website. I was very perturbed when the trainer said that Daisy had not been fed on some days while she was in boarding, stating that if she was not good she did not get fed - this did not reflect the website statement that ' Training includes positive reinforcement and is all reward based'. On getting her home and weighing her she had lost just under 1.5kg in weight. I was very disappointed with the service for the price I paid and whilst I received an email of concern that my feedback was poor I heard nothing back to my email which gave the reasons above.

“I sent my puppy Reggie (8 months old) to Royvon in oct...”

written by chicksterette on 16/01/2015

I sent my puppy Reggie (8 months old) to Royvon in oct 2014 for a three week stay and training. I saw lots of pictures of him on facebook but they did not stay in touch with me. I was told that they would let me know regularly how he was doing but they only responded when I contacted them. I went to pick Reggie up and attend the 2hour training. Reggie was very subdued but I thought it was because he had got used to the place and liked being with the other dogs. He looked very thin(he was lean when he went in but nothing like what he came out) We went through the training and Reggie seemed to respond to the trainer. They used a choke collar on him. I particularly asked that he needed to stop jumping up at people, stop chasing leaves and walk to heel. Reggie did not seem to want to respond to me when I got him home and did not get out of his bed. He was choking, had severe diarrhoea and was being sick a lot. It was clear that he had lost a lot of weight during his stay. Everyone who saw him remarked that he had been starved and asked what I had done to him. I took him to the vet. She was shocked and said it is the worse case of malnutrition that she had ever seen. She said he was very very ill and said if it had been a couple of days later I might have lost him. He lost nearly 3kg in weight over the 3 weeks. She ordered tests and prescribed various medicines. He choked every time his lead went tight. He was diagnosed with giardia - a parasite mainly found and contracted in kennels and choking due to the lead being pulled too tight. I voiced my concerns with the man I dealt with who suggested before it was diagnosed as giardia that reggie might have eaten an acorn - which are poisonase to dogs. They have them all around the exercise and training area. The man I dealt with was supposed to contact my vet to discuss matters. He tried once! she has tried several times to call him back but he does not respond. It has taken me three months to get my dog well again and cost me nearly £500 in vet fees!! None of the training has worked. Royvon say you can take your dog back for further training but under the circumstances I cannot do that. So, your company nearly killed my dog. Its cost me £500 in vets fees and over £1000 to board/train him and your training didnt work!!! What are you going to do to compensate me : PAY MY VET FEES AND MAYBE GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY. You have not contacted me to let me know what you intend to do to put things right! Perhaps you will on here!!! Royvon did not even notice that my dog was very ill. They thought he was losing weight so they just fed him more and asked me to buy more food. Surely you knew he had severe diarrhoea!!! Why did you not call a vet or better still MY VET whose number you asked for before he went to Royvon!

The facts are that it does not matter whether you show a video or not.( I see that has been deleted from my facebook too)My dog was perfectly ok when I left him with you and he was very ill when I picked him up. My vet will confirm that. Not once during that time did you tell me you had concerns with his health because you did not even notice he was ill!!

Its taken you nearly 3 weeks just to write the above comment. Its not a sign that you are in any way interested in what happened to my dog

I have very similar problems with them, I am currently in dispute with them but it is proving to be difficult as they will not respond with a detailed explanation and keep basically saying the same things.
My impression at this time is that they seem to think if they keep repeating apologies for the same thing it becomes a true reflection of the facts.
Still on going.
But I do not intend to go away very easily and may well start legal proceedings if they do not look to resolve the issue fairly.

“OK for boarding, TERRIBLE for training.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 37Willis on 04/01/2015

Royvon surrey is good for boarding your dog if you are going on holiday, but their training is of poor quality and not as advertised. We let Daisy, our King Charles Spaniel, stay at Royvon for 3 weeks in November/December. We picked Royvon as we had special requirements for our dog. My mother suffers from a severe spinal cord injury, which had made training difficult. We were assured that they could accommodate this and adapt the training to make it suitable for my mother. A key promise was that they would train Daisy using a special walking belt that my mother needs to use. Royvon advertise extensive pre-preperation and a chat with your trainer on the day of arrival. Although we supplied detailed information of our needs and requirements, we did not get this. In fact, when we arrived we were told that no trainers were available to discuss our needs. When we insisted, instead we were given a different trainer to talk to. We asked that Daisy be trained to walk on the right hand side. The first sign of problems to come, was when we spotted pictures of Daisy being trained to walk on the left hand side. We were surprised to find that this instruction had been ignored or not communicated. When we picked up Daisy, we were unimpressed by the handover procedure- Daisy broke away from the trainer during the show and would not return to her for a good while. Fundamentally, Royvon did not train Daisy with the walking belt as they promised us. Also, during handover our trainer betrayed her ignorance of my mother's disability by telling my her to bend over and push Daisy down if she did not sit on command. We feel cheated that we were promised our needs could be handled in relation to my mother's disability. When we brought Daisy back, her recall was non-existent. She would not walk loose lead, and she was terrified off the choke lead that Royvon had been using on her. Either Royvon did not train Daisy to walk thoroughly or they did a very bad job. Do not take your dog to Royvon for training. They might be able to train basic commands such as sit and down, but if you require anything more than this, do not bother. We also did not receive a three week homecare plan as promised on their website. Do not believe their promises. After complaining, we were told that we would need to come back for aftercare sessions. I can understand this if there were a few small issues to sort out. But I do not see why we have to come to aftercare sessions to do the training from scratch, that we paid a significant amount of money to sort out. We want a refund and we will be taking this up with trading standards. We were contacted on the 17th December, after our request for refund, saying we would be contacted within 10 days. That has not happened.

As mentioned above, here is the reply to the complaint - Royvon Dog Training Schools

Dear Mr. xxxxx

In the arrival meeting with our training supervisor, he did advise that we are not specialised in training dogs for disabled owners but that we can help with general obedience. He also mentioned that a high energy dog might not be the best option or even might not be suitable for people with disabilities.

Additionally it was stressed that we can teach the dog new behaviours during residential training but they would need to continue the training at home. He did explain that a new relationship needs to be established after the course (which is essential to creating a strong bond and reliable obedience) and only after following the specific instructions from the trainer will the owners be able to achieve the training goals.

Moreover, he advised that Mrs. xxxxxxxx may need additional help when it comes to progressing the training after taking Daisy home and that proper handling of the dog is as important as the initial training. We said that we could try to incorporate the additional requirements into the training (such us working with the dog children around as distractions or walking to heel with the wheelchair) but we are unable to guarantee it. He advised that we would teach Daisy to walk to heel on a training lead on the right and then Mrs. xxxxxxx would be able to clip Daisy to the waist lead as well if she preferred. After our phone conversation with yourselves, she decided to try to work with the wheelchair that we have on site.

During the demonstration, when working off the lead, Daisy did break the stay due to something startling her but then came back to the trainer, was left in the sit-stay position and then recalled back again (with the other person and a dog as a distraction) to which she came back quickly and sat beside the trainer’s leg.

During the handover lesson the trainer explained what to do in case Daisy decides not to follow a sit command. Daisy has been taught a verbal command as well as a visible signal to sit, heel etc. The trainer explained that if Daisy ignores the verbal command to sit, the handler should execute obedience not with pushing the dog down but with pulling the lead up so there is no need to bend down.

During residential training the trainer creates a bond with the dog which is based on clear, black-and-white rules. Afterwards, it is the owner that needs to build such a bond with the dog, following all the instructions given by the trainer. During the dog’s stay they learn obedience and are given a strong base by the professional and that makes the learning process faster and much more efficient. Each dog is taken off site and trained in the presence of various distractions to make the obedience commands even more reliable.

Moreover, it is true to say that dog training as important as the training of the handler (owner). That is why in our offer we provide follow up lessons for the next 6 months after the departure and explain that they are a crucial part of the course. We want to be sure that our customers are able to handle their dogs after going home and make an efficient use of the provided residential training.
What we guarantee in our contract is the display of all the commands you have mentioned on the completion of the course. Dogs adjust their behaviour to the handler and as a result, good handling can improve a dog’s behaviour very quickly as well as the wrong way decreasing the level of obedience. This is why we always emphasise that the course and training does not finish after the residential training.

As I explained in my phone call to Mrs. xxxxxx, we have replaced the Home Training Plan with the discussion that takes place between the owner and trainer on the departure day. It has been demonstrated that this is much more effective than a generic training plan.
We would like to continue to training process with you and would strongly recommend that you attend the follow up lessons.

“Dog Training and Welfare Forget It”

★☆☆☆☆

written by scottielover on 09/09/2014

We dropped our dog off on 1/9/14 and watched the daily photos on the web page. Day one ,about 12 photos of our happy scottie, each day fewer photos appeared until the 6th then only 4 could be found each one ears down sat by the exit gate. The trainer also posted photos they looked as if she was being wrestled! We decided to collect her. Just as well she was wet through, had an eye infection and has a cold so its of to the vets for us.Her bed and toys had obviously not been used either. Dont expect any thing from Royvon, the small print says they are not responcible. The idea was to get or dog better behaved. After 6 days she is broken. Lucky we collected her early and didnt wait the full 3 weeks. Watch the bill also we were charged an extra day plus other odd amounts. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT YOUR DOG BACK IN ONE PIECE. 1 star is to high

I agree I'm currently taking legal action against them for the neglect of my animals after one of them came out of there a third of her body weight less in three weeks!!

“Training by starvation???”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/11/2012

I am prompted to write about my own experience 3 years ago. We left our 12 month old GSD for 3 weeks of training while we were on holiday. Our main aim was to have him stop pulling on his lead. We tried everything; choke collars, spiked collars etc. and even followed Cesar Melan's system of preventing pulling. He wasn't interested in rewards for good behavior such as treats, toys or praise. In fact, his only joy in life was deer chasing. When he spied a deer he became totally deaf and sometimes nearly pulled me over in trying to break free. Anyway, we were assured that he could be trained and went happily on holiday. We were in communication by email with the trainer who assured us that he was eating well and appeared to have settled down well. We were curious as to why he was now eating well as he showed no interest in food at home. When we went to pick him up 3 weeks later the trainer was keen to show us how well he now behaved on the lead and in fact, we were quite impressed. However, he seemed to be very subdued; not the lively dog we had left there. Then we weighed him. He had lost 10% of his body weight. For 3 days he gobbled up his food and even wanted seconds. Having been assured that he had settled in and was eating well, but now had lost 4 kgs suddenly we think we realised what had happened (although we had no proof). Because he was unresponsive to all treats etc., they must have with-held food from him to make him so hungry that he would do anything. Why else would he have lost so much weight? We were so pleased to get him back and vowed never to subject any future dog that we had to such treatment. If we had been able to substantiate any of our suspicions, we would have reported them for cruelty, but unfortunately dogs can't talk. But fortunately they do quickly forget and in no time at all, he was back to his own self, pulling on the lead etc. But we didn't care. We were just so pleased that we hadn't booked him in for a longer time.

I feel this is an unfair review on Royvon, I haven't used them, however this review is not based on fact except that the dog lost weight. As a guide dog trainer I know that not only do GSD's NOT cope well in kennels, they also don't cope well when separated from their owners unless used to it from pups. In dogs that are fussy with food this stress will show itself in a refusal to eat. I find it odd that someone so concerned with their dogs welfare was happy to choke their dog and use other aids that would cause them obvious harm?! A kinder easily available alternative to control pulling is a head collar.

“We will not be back!”

written by Kippen on 09/10/2012

My lab has stayed in Royvon, Surrey a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Booked her in again for a few days whilst we had a quick break. I took great care to explain that she was recovering from a leg injury, so whilst she could go on walks and play with one quiet dog she wasn't allowed any group activities. This was duly recorded during the initial phone call, and then reconfirmed when we dropped her off. A couple of days into our holiday I checked Royvon photos to see Poppy, running around with all the other dogs. She was clearly loving it but then she's not paying the vets bills and has no comprehension that too much activity would mean another 4 weeks of "only 10 min walks on the lead". I rang Royvon to discuss. And rang. And rang. All I got was an answer message saying that no-one was available. When I still couldn't get anyone the next day I resorted to sending an email, briefly explaining the issue and asking for someone to ring me. No-one rang but the next day I got an email saying that they had investigated but were certain that she had only been playing with one other dog. I had the photos in front of me and knew this was not true. We were a out to travel home so I left it till we got back. We picked her up and I asked to see whoever was in charge. Can't remember his name, but he re-iterated that he had investigated and Poppy had only been with one other dog. I showed him the photos showing a crowd of dogs playing and he suggested that it was a different lab in the photos. At this point my husband erupted (for which I apologise to Royvon) and pointed out that (a) we could recognise our own dog and (b) she has a very distinctive collar. The guy went off to check with a colleague and after 2 mins came back to say yes, she had been in group activities his colleague had not checked the computer and had been letting her join in group activities. He didn't apologise. He just said that he was very cross with his colleague for not checking out the computer. I pointed out that I was paying £40 per day for a premium service and that I felt let down. He then said "oh we'll, it's a discount you're after..." Oh and he also explained that they were on a strange phone system which sometimes didn't work. I am extremely unhappy with the service and will not be using Royvon again. And my dogs limp is back...

Royvoncustomerservice's Response to Kippen's Review

We are sincerely sorry for the service you received at the time of Poppy’s stay. We are aware that there was a problem with our phone systems which we can confirm is currently in the process of being resolved. We accept that there was a serious error on our part regarding Poppy’s activity arrangements due to a lack of communication between staff; this is an issue that has now been resolved, ensuring that it will not happen again. We are deeply sorry again for any stress caused to yourself and Poppy.

“lack of information.”

written by Miski18 on 25/09/2012

i booked a 3 weeks residential course for my dog archie way back in august/September. 5 days before the course i received no emails no information and no acknowledgement that archie is booked. I have spent days trying to contact this school even sending 3 emails with no success and after many many many frustrating hours i managed to get someone on the line who apologised for their computer not working. Even after that i got no further contact with the school. i am starting to fret whether i paid £100 deposit for nothing, whether i have been scammed or whether this school genuinely cares about customers. I have today asked for a refund to be told that the owner will contact me shortly. if i run my business that way i would soon be out of business. The course is not cheap. £700 for 3 weeks. One would imagine they would be eager to get my business. 5 days to go and i still have no info. disgraceful.

Dear (Name removed),

I have completed our investigation based on the issues raised by yourself regarding receiving a conformation email from us. I can conclude that 4 email confirmation were sent to (email removed) on various dates before Archie’s due arrival.

I can understand it being very stressful not knowing what was happening, our investigation show that the fault was down to your email provider and not yourself or the company.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused, however I am pleased to inform you that we have acted upon your complaint. In future any clients using AOL provider will be notified that there may be a possible problem with them receiving emails from our system.

Please find and included in this letter is a cheque for £100.

Regards

Darren James

“We sent our GSD to learn things that we found just too...”

written by on 19/01/2011

We sent our GSD to learn things that we found just too difficult to teach. When we picked him up 3 weeks latter we found that his spirit had been broken and he had lost 3 kgs in weight. We think, but we have no way of knowing, that starvation was the only way they could train him as he is not interested in toys, praise or food (unless he is very hungry). Possibly they starved him so that he would respond to treats. We would never try and train our dog in this manner, even though to a certain degree it was successful. Never again!

As Managing Director of Royvon, I feel that a response is required to this review. We have not received a complaint so the only information I have is what's written in the review. I welcome the owner to contact me direct and I will investigate further and provide any information that we already have or obtain in investigation. It is of great concern that one of our clients feel this way and I welcome any opportunity to discuss further. On occasion dogs do lose weight whilst in this environment as they can pine for their owners, however this would be noticed and procedure's come into place to help resolve. We weigh such dogs and breeds daily or every couple of days prone to loosing weight in a kennel environment in order to monitor them and also discuss with their owners to develop a suitable plan of action to help correct the problem. Starvation is not a method of training we use. We do motivate using some treats however physical and verbal praise is our main reinforcement. In particular we find that GSD's respond much better to verbal and physical praise from their handler as they are generally very keen to please. We specialise in this breed as we have bred German Shepherds solely for over 40 years, the Co-founder of Royvon Mrs. Yvonne James judged German shepherds at Crufts and bred many international champions.

This has also happened to my dog and I am researching royvon . I have read a few more such reviews with one dog dying due to being in a car . Royvon were investigated and fined by the RSPCA but this does not bring a dog back or indeed help with the guilt the owner feel for putting their dog through such an ordeal. I also got the sort of response that this person got

I sent my dog for the 3 week residential training and was very disappointed with the admin side, as they did not follow any instructions apart from giving my dog his medication. His own blankets was never used, his dental sticks were returned x2 sent 3 packets, he was not given any. His medication and collar was mislaid. The trainer was very good.We were not shown inside the kennels were the dogs slept.Advertising was not as accurate as what was actually delivered. Admin staff need more training. The pictures do not give a true reflection of the actual kennels.I found the kennels looking very depressing.

It's strictly a money making enterprise, don't fall for it! Royvon gave us a great sales job on the phone, but I made the mistake of booking before going to look at the place, which isn't as green and pleasant as it looks on the internet, but pretty grim and grungy. But our dog was there to learn, we thought, so we went ahead. We came to pick him up three weeks later, he was sick, filthy (although we had been charged for grooming, his hair was so matted and dirty it had to be cut out). He was damp and shivery, as they had tried to rinse some of the dirt and poo off him before we arrived. They couldn't demonstrate his "training" as he was so ill, and we hadn't been told of this nor had a vet been called, despite the fact that the staff there when we collected him said he had been sick for three days. When he finally recovered, after two visits to a vet, antibiotics and lots of unpleasant diarrhea, we realised he hadn't learned anything that he didn't know before he went -- he could sit and give us his paw, but still wouldn't heel, stay or come. The management took the balance of payment from us without authorization, without any compensation for not carrying out the training, not doing the grooming and making the dog sick. They also lost all of his belongings -- toys, leads, bed -- and refused to replace them. We had a few sessions at home with a private trainer, for about a tenth the cost, and the dog is now fine! Don't waste your money at Royvon, there are much better kennels and much better trainers.

“Royvons' strong point is their staff. Too many dogs,...”

written by Quaid 2008 on 28/08/2009

Royvons' strong point is their staff. Too many dogs, not enough training time for individual dogs ( on residential training) No progress on training and the trainer was very stressed. This is purely a money making machine and the owners need to put their heart into it. Not leave it all to the stressed staff, who were all real animal lovers and very kind. I feel the dogs do not get enough time training, as clearly shown in our dogs complete lack of progress. He still only knows and follows my training from prior to the 'training' at Royvon. None of the information I provided in the application forms was known to the staff. what one wonders is where do these forms go? Do the staff have no time to read any of it? They are really stretched there and to be honest I amde a BIG mistake sending our dog there. Never again. I blame the Management. So unapproachable.

“We booked in to Royvon Dog Training on a 4 week puppy...”

★★☆☆☆

written by gnasher123 on 17/10/2008

We booked in to Royvon Dog Training on a 4 week puppy class.

The induction went well (no dogs) and we were given a nice booklet containing useful info on puppy training. At the end of the induction the lady told us she wouldn't be doing the training as she was leaving to start her own training school, she did assure us that a new trainer would be following the plan of a rolling 4 week course so you could come and go as you please if you missed a week it wasn't a problem

The first week wasn't too bad, only a few other dogs main niggle was the trainer seemed to have had enough after 45mins into our hour class and tried to wind the session up (I think she was new and had been chucked in the deep end). I mentioned that the course was 1 hour and she continued without problem.

I felt the second/third/fourth week went down hill. Classes often started late and finished on time or early. The trainers (no fault of their own) seemed to have no idea how many dogs would be turning up - being a Saturday usually 10+ with only 1 trainer. The ice cold room where the training took place was massively over crowded to say the least.

I think the cleaners were on strike!

The trainers did their best and the dogs got to socialise, which is of course a big part of it all.
New people to the course hadn't been given their information booklet and were told they had run out until next week. Most questions got answered.

I guess the whole experience was fun and good for the dog but I did expect more, some thing slightly more professionally run would have been nice.

Would I recommend it? Not really. Unless you're local and cant travel.

I have a 4 year old chiauhau pom cross who hates everyone. We can't have anyone in the house, he's so aggressive it's got to the point where I think we are going to have to give him up for re homing but I'm not sure if he could be. Do you think Royvon Boarding & Dog Training Kennels may be able to help and at what cost, roughly? Thank you for listening.

We have a six month old golden retriever. We are pensioners and we find trying to train him in certain issues a bit trying, his recall is great but walking on a lead is a nightmare, he is a terror for pulling and eating the plants in the garden. When greeting people in our home he is so excitable it is a nightmare too, he loves everybody including children but being so excitable he knocks them flying. He loves other dogs but jumps all over them and some don't like it.  In general he needs training. Could anyone let us know the cost we should expect weekly?  Regards

We sent pour 6 month old german shepherd to royvon, and looked at many kennels before we found royvon, which we loved the staff were great and you could see on website she was happy there. Please go and have a look for yourselves, she only had some basic training there as had some nearer home. Our dogs go there every year now as its the perfect place for them. I know bigger dogs pull on the lead ours wear a canny collar around their noses to stop pulling. All puppies do some digging in the garden perhaps she should have some training to learn what he can or cannot do. Best of luck.
