Our Hotpoint WD420 has one appalling feature. When it strives to even out the load prior to the final spin it rotates and oscillates relatively slowly with the sides of the drum banging very noisily indeed against the walls of the machine. The bangs are deafening and quite alarming, sounding as though something is seriously wrong. Indeed I never leave the machine unattended in case something goes very amiss. The violence of its movements can send the machine skidding across the kitchen. The machine has been checked and it is installed correctly and nothing is theoretically wrong. The cause seems to be an uneven load but most loads seem to be uneven. If a load has anything that absorbs a lot of water, such as a towel or towels, it will happen.
