“Basic Courtesy To Home Owners”

★★★★☆

written by MarieDwyer on 28/04/2023

I can't believe how many of the hosts wear boots or even shoes inside the homes. In particular "Sonali" she wears healed boots at times and walks across hardwood floors. I think they should have shoes/slippers at the ready before entering. It's disrespectful to walk across a garden particularly in inclement weather and enter someone's home. I wouldn't think they would do it in their own homes. Another thing that's perhaps of a lesser importance is the fact "Sonali" likes to pat herself on the back far too much and looks for the clients gratification.

“Houses Shown on each Episode Often Higher than Budget”

★★★★☆

written by Leannay450 on 08/06/2022

Hello from Missouri! I so enjoy watching ETTC here in the States, it brings me a slice of Home as I am from London. The locations are indeed a travel through England tour guide - absolutely delightful!! That said - I have an issue with the properties shown. Simply put, they often exceed the stated budget. I find that annoying and while it is not a waste of my time ... it most certainly is a waste of the Buyers(s). Why show them anything over their budget? Why not show them houses below their budget or at least " not to exceed". For example: last evening we watched Season 21 Episode 14, " Pembrokeshire". The Buyer said she had a budget of 700,000UK and if the magic place was found she could find up to 900,000UK. - So, where did Alistair start? 750,000UK! With the average home price in P-shire being 300K, surely he could have found a 600K property for her. Even the 2 " if you are on a budget" homes were darling!! Show her that! I would like for the properties to honor the budget. Make every home affordable. Secondly - it would be nice if " I Escaped To The Country" could be shown or a show created to follow-up on the buyers. I would love to have an episode follow-up for when the buyers actually move. I truly want to know how they got on!

“Interiors Need Headroom for Tall Buyers”

★★★★☆

written by BeritJ on 16/10/2021

I’m based in the U.S. and have been watching your show for 6 months. While I enjoy the hosts, format of 3 homes, including the ‘Mystery House,’ beautiful gardens, the history lesson of each village and county, the very old and sometimes new architecture, and the British accents and words which vary from American English. However, there seems to be a glaring oversight which shows a 100% negative outcome when Buyers are choosing their homes. If one or both Buyers are tall, then are required to duck when touring home with beams, low doorways or climbing stairs, the house in question gets eliminated 100% of the time! Therefore, when the Host/Agent previews the property, this should be taken into consideration so that the Buyers truly get three valid choices. Otherwise, keep on broadcasting “Escape To The Country” in America, and as you say, “Off you go!”

“Forever Home Concerns”

★★★★☆

written by Mooney313 on 23/06/2020

The writers/producers need to research the architectural features needed in homes as homeowners age - ground floor bedroom and full handicapped bath (these can really look great with sloped shower floors, teak benches, hand showers, no edging), no steps for the aging, better yet no thresholds, accommodate scooters not wheelchairs, wide hallways and doorways, pocket doos. The properties selected for viewing for aging or forever homes show serious ignorance of the design features needed as people age. They do not need to be shipped off to nursing homes if forever homes are properly designed. I love this show but the ignorance about the needs of the aging are grating. Do not rely only on handicap building codes - they do not pass the scooter test and other needed conveniences.

“why most of bed rooms are upstairs”

★★★★☆

written by downhome2020 on 21/02/2020

Really like the programs .since the likely hood of ever visiting Great Brit. we do like the scene shots and a little history of that area. Most of the people who want to escape seem tobe retired or almost as such. In most of the shows no one seems to want bed rooms down.It would appear as yo grow older this would be a BIG factor, climbing stairs.

“Great show but they are all a mystery now”

★★★★☆

written by KentCouple56 on 23/08/2017

When this show started many moons ago the couple's used to look at a selection of properties on a lap top choose their favourites that they would like to see and if only say three properties caught their fancy then they had the choice of the mystery house, a house they could not see at this point on the laptop and would only be revealed to them once out viewing if they chose to see it. The format now is that they are shown properties they haven't chosen including a mystery house well surely they are all mystery houses as the couple have not chosen any of them I have always found this odd why they kept the so called mystery house in it. Apart from that love this programme looking at lovely houses in great locations. It's normally aimed at people of a certain age who always amaze me that they are prepared to take on sometimes huge houses with massive gardens when they are at a time of life where it will soon become a chore with the upkeep of it all and seem to consider the needs of family members who may visit a couple of times a year when they are making their decision. A programme that makes no demands of you but allows you into the thought processes of people looking to move which if you are like us causes debate about the various merits of the decisions made.

“WHINGING POMS”

★★★★☆

written by joyceboccabella on 19/03/2017

I love this show as do many of my Australian friends. However, it makes me mad when you get some of the English returning 'home' and knocking what you get in Australia such as the homes. I was really disgusted with one couple recently who said the food, fruit and vegetables, were not fresh or something to that effect. With regard to homes, Australia is a 'new' country and can't be expected to be like England, and as far as the food goes our produce is some of the best in the world. I'm glad those who whinge have gone back to where they belong.

“I love this show!”

★★★★☆

written by on 02/12/2016

I always watch this show like nearly everyday and I record it when I am busy or out and about. I think that Escape to the country should make brand new episodes rather than always watching repeated ones or change it abit by if there is old episodes, they should include how families have brought the property's or if they ever did or see where they ended to living and tell viewers what is it like to live in the countryside. Myself I never considered living in the countryside but when watching Escape to the Country I very much would love to move to the countryside.

“Show too much at the beginning”

★★★★☆

written by Dip8934 on 28/11/2016

I really enjoy this programme but I find that the suspense of seeing the properties as the people are shown around is ruined by the fact that the programme makers show too much of the properties at the beginning of the show - even the mystery house!! Its called a mystery house for a reason - even to the viewer. I find myself trying to time looking away at certain moments so as not to spoil the excitement of seeing each property. Its like reading the end of a book before you've read the beginning to me. It's just like spoilers for other programmes - they completely spoil them :(. Apart from that I love Escape to the Country but in the old ones shown would like to see a follow up as to how they enjoy living there now or what they bought instead!

“Love this show”

★★★★☆

written by gdogmomma on 19/02/2015

I love your show and I would love to know where they buy their dresses. My only negative is pretty much the same as many of the comments on here, in that they sometimes show people houses that are nothing like what the person asked for in the first place. I understand the mystery house is supposed to challenge but what about the other two? Is it because there is a shortage of property that matches their requirements in that particular search area? I imagine it's sometimes hard to match, requirements, area and budget. Anyway, for the most part I love the show, keep it up.

“It only takes one to spoil things”

★★★★☆

written by on 23/08/2012

What prompted meto write is WHY does Denise Nurse always seem to wear those horible boots? Are they surgically removed each day? And for an intelligent person, she makes some silly remarks, followed by a silly laugh. The rooms are too small, only one bathroom, small kitchen, what is her answer' "yes but look at your lovely garden" For goodness sake, get rid of her.

“Follow up news requests seem to be ignored”

★★★★☆

written by moggidoggi on 11/06/2011

An interesting insight into what matters to people in selecting a home. It would be far more worthe while if each ep. had a follow up from an eposode in the last series ot a search in the same area. Has anyone one found a source that actually answers the request for updates. Is there a web site for the show itself? In australia we tend to like what Brits term as bungalows but Brit;s don't (doeas noone get arthritis and hate stairs?

Having been on the show, couple of comments

1 - We asked them why they didn't do a series of follow-ups - answer: no appetite although they asked to be kept informed during the time leading up to the first showing of your episode

2 - the show is an advert for the UK and isnt there to primarily find you a house (like the one with 'that woman' in it)

“Agree with another review that a follow-up programme...”

★★★★☆

written by Wistful on 18/11/2008

Agree with another review that a follow-up programme would be good to see how buyers got on. Particularly as some of the seem to have an idealised view of what living in the country will be. They say they want rural living and then moan when there are no shops, pubs or neighbours.

“I generally enjoy Escape to the Country but often...”

★★★★☆

written by David E Benge on 08/11/2008

I generally enjoy Escape to the Country but often wonder what happens after they buy one of the choices. Is there not a place for a follow up programme on the success or otherwise of the move? Watching the changes they make, did they mix in with the community, did they make the farm they always craved for? How did the animals get on with new surroundings? There are numerous angles which could be interesting and achieved.

David E Benge.

Although I have enjoyed ‘Escape to the Country’ for several years I am regularly frustrated by the continuing misleading statement made by many of the presenters. It happened yesterday and has happened again today (14/2/24). A location is described as a “Hamlet” and then the first pictures show a “Church”. I have spent my working life as an historic buildings consultant and would inform these presenters that, no matter how large or small a collection of dwellings may be, if that group of buildings includes a church then it is a “Village”, not a “Hamlet”! My wife and I lived happily for more than 26 years in an idyllic house in the Welsh Marches. There were only 8 other dwellings but our house was the old vicarage and, because the church is next door we lived in a “Village”! I do hope that you are able and willing to take this criticism on board and that the next series will continue to give further pleasure without this frustrating misinformation. Kind regards

How many times have prospective buyers found a property they like only for the programme format to cause them to miss out on putting an offer in by a day because they had to wait to see the mystery house?

When the presenter and the buyers are traveling between locations in the presenters car, why does the external scenery give the impression of traveling in a high speed train. Is the car stationary and the moving scenery is provided by a rolling road?

I watched an episode of Escape to the Country recently, although think it was a repeat. They showed a brand new house owned and designed by an architect who had used natural materials, eg. wooden materials to design a kitchen and to make the stunning cottage appear like an old cottage. Cannot find the episode anywhere. Can anyone help please?

I live in Australia and very much enjoy watching Escape to the Country Friday & Sunday evenings even though the programs we get here are usually 3 to 4 years old. However last week Jules was talking to buyers regarding putting Yerds on the property as a source of income (not sure of the spelling) I have tried looking this up to find out what it is but can't find anything which explains it. Can anyone help?
