“Left without working phone number ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Vickybournemouth on 14/08/2023

Think about your worst customer service experience, then double it! Asda mobile contradict themselves, follow a poor script, fail to provide a fix or update… shocking!!! I write this as we fall into day 9 without a working phone number. Port across in 24 hours they say…. 9 days later and no explanation, no idea of when it will be fixed. Nothing. Just a “we’ll call when it’s fixed” laughable if it wasn’t so painful!! Avoid this provider at all costs! Oh and this is all whilst still taking me money for a service not provided.

“Not a Happy Bunny”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/06/2022

ASDA Mobile/Vodafone cancelled my SIM card three months ago in error. They admitted their mistake and said they would send me a new SIM card and transfer my credit balance to the new number. Despite chasing them over the past two months, where on each occasion they continued to assure me (albeit reluctantly) that they would transfer the credit, they have failed to do so and are now even claiming that I cannot prove the number that I had for many years was actually mine. A year ago I would have given ASDA Mobile 5 stars as when they were partnered with EE I found their service to be excellent.

“Basic network but reliable”

★★★★☆

written by 247Tilley on 05/12/2018

Used to by with Asda Mobile years ago when they used the Vodafone network, then moved to GiffGaff (O2) who I thought offered better value bundles. Latterly GiffGaff had too many service outages in the town where I work, and I had a very poor experience buying a new mobile from their parent company O2, so I decided to try Asda Mobile (now using EE) again. I'm glad I did because although their bundles for the type of usage I require aren't quite as good value as GiffGaff, Asda Mobile's reception is better, is more reliable, and their Customer Service Team are friendly, efficient and professional... AND they're from Yorkshire which makes them alright in my book. Asda's downsides are that their website and offerings are a little more 'clunky' and basic than other providers, but they more than make up for it in other ways. Recommended.

“SIM card disintegrated. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 349Murray on 19/11/2017

Bough an Asda mobile SIM card today and ten pounds bundle. When I got home and was in the process of removing the SIM card it came apart into three pieces. I've never experienced this before. Perhaps the batch is faulty. I'm going to try and get my money back.

“Avoid until they leave EE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dobsongo1949 on 20/08/2016

I tried ASDA again after Sainsburys Mobile and then the Post Office Mobile decided to close down. I used them a few years ago and they were good then. Not today. I believe the reason is their decision to use EE. Signal strength is poor and infuriatingly so when compared to an EE sim right besdide me. Their customer service people, who are very pleasant, are hampered by idiotic EE terms. I used to be with EE having been forced there when I was with Orange, who were OK, merged with T-Mobile, who were good. I left because of poor, patronising EE customer service. Examples. Your 30 day Bundle runs out. You cannot renew until your 30 day period is up. You have a few MB left on your bundle but you cannot access the internet. They have a £7 bundle but you cannot buy a £7 voucher. My biggest gripe, however, is signal coverage and internet speed.

“SMS service useless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Copelandqx70 on 04/07/2016

I ordered a free Asda SIM, and found that although it works when making and receiving calls as well as sending texts to mobiles, for some reason it does not send SMS texts to landlines. I tried to send a text over and over again to a landline number, the credit was deducted, the text sent, but it never reached the landline. I tried with a SIM from another mobile phone company, and there was no problem at all, so there must be something wrong with the Asda network. When I rang Asda to query this, they did not seem to care, making the excuse that some texts are not guaranteed to reach their destination. Well, that is ridiculous, because Asda sent me a replacement SIM, and exactly the same thing happened. This is a warning to anyone out there who is thinking of joining Asda mobile - do not do it if you need to text landlines, because the strategy will not work and you will go through unnecessary frustration. Did Asda really think that nobody would notice this flaw with their network? It sounds like a cheapskate service which cuts corners to save money. It is not dissimilar to Asda's brand of Smart Price food products, which are such poor quality I cannot eat them. Sorry, Asda, but I am through with Asda mobile. You must live in a world of your own where nobody owns a landline anymore!

“Terrible Coverage”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lrRobinson97 on 05/09/2015

I was with asda mobile for a month and then changed back to giffgaff. Although they state that their coverage is rated as "very good" on the Wirral, I can assure you it wasn't! Couldn't make or receive calls in most areas and 3G signal was pretty poor as well!

“Asda Mobile / EE **stole** my cherished number”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RoccoPotter122 on 28/08/2015

I lost my cherished mobile number (worth over £1,000) as was not told that after 90 days of no OUTGOING calls, the SIM gets suspended. Asda telephone support had no clue about this EE catch and wasted time trying to to recover it. By the time EE got involved, the number was out of my hands. Furthermore, both Asda and EE had no ‘reference’ on their system to the cherished number – just a SIM number but nothing they claimed connected it to the number itself (which was previously ported across from Orange). I found that hard to believe – how could you not know what your client’s mobile number is – even the PPI spammers seem to achieve this rather well. I had had this fab number with Orange for over 10 years – but lost it in an instant with Asda Mobile. Customer Service is absolutely shambolic. There is not an ounce of lie in that last sentence. This truly is a bad set up and I would never recommend them as long as I stay alive, purely on the basis that both Asda and EE is an incompetent and amateur partnership trying to compete with their more experienced competition. They have no idea of the real world, and when problems arise, they are a lost cause from the very start. If the thought of ‘PAC code’ and Asda Mobile / EE is going through your head, please think about something else. Seriously.

“Don't go there”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Skiglenshee on 10/01/2015

I have made the mistake of trying to transfer my existing mobile number to Asda Mobile. It was supposed to take 2 days. That was 4 days ago and I have just been told that it could be another five days, during which time I basically have no phone. The process that I have started cannot be reversed. I have also been told that I can't speak to anyone else about it, nor do they have a formal complaints procedure (which I find incredible). I am totally stuck and very frustrated.

“Made SADA by ASDA”

★☆☆☆☆

written by originalgrumps on 21/10/2014

Having ordered two sim cards on line ( I don’t normally have a problem with my post), but mysteriously, neither made it through my letter box (if they were ever sent ?)). In the end I opted to get a sim card from my local store. Having got my PAC code from Giffgaff, I fully jumped ship today to ASDA an experience, that has left me a whole lot SADA. Superciliously, I have acquired a marginally better package for the same monthly price (i.e. more txt / talk time). However, it seems I have done so at the expense of a lesser quality of signal ( that dropped off frequently in my house today), coupled with communicating with a call centre that appears staffed by people who are either completely deceitful or dreadfully trained, except for, to say anything, no matter how inaccurate, just to get rid of the query. Furthermore, when I realised their errors, called again and politely but properly pointed their errors out to them, they didn’t have the courtesy or the grace, to say that dreadful word ‘sorry’, well not until firmly pressed by me to say so. I am not a heavy user, and having now paid in enough credit for a couple of months Txt / calls, I guess I will see it through until the end of my current credit. If the same poor service I have experienced on day one persists, then I will happily and easily jump back to Giffgaff, for the reliable / honest service that I have come to expect.

“two months and several complaints text still not fixed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jessiex410 on 06/09/2014

I transferred my number from Virgin Mobile and as soon as the switch took place I could not text Bal and get my balance from 2732 plus incoming calls were just being told the number you have rung is not accepting messages tried other phones etc definitely the sim and something that went wrong at the number transfer stage Made several complaints and the incoming calls issue was fixed but not the SMS`to the service centre I been promised a fix several time and the old we haven’t any record of your complaint being forwarded to the tech dept etc The latest promised to ring back within 5 days and a fix failed to materialise but for half a day I could text the service centre I checked it was working twice Then all texting stopped working full stop and now I cant SMS anyone Two months in and things are worse not better than before I have a sim from 3 and that works fine in all modes so I will be transferring my number to them now Asda are very polite and seem helpful but are not capable of getting things fixed probably because they are just window dressing for EE I would advise avoiding them unless you are in an area where they are the only signal you can get and even then think twice

“Was with Vodafone. Happy to be with ASDA.”

★★★★☆

written by Damonr355 on 02/08/2014

I had been a Vodafone customer for 8 years and have been increasingly frustrated with their poor service. I decided to leave a £20 monthly prepay for a £10 PAYG with ASDA. I can only say that I am happy and wish I had moved sooner. I am surprised though to see the number of complaints. I have better signal and less costs. Whats not to like!

I have been trying for nearly six weeks to get two new top up cards for our phones. They have been ordered three times. I still haven't received them. We are all set up with EE and our numbers sorted. We can't use our phones because we have no top up cards to put money on phones. What should I do?

Isn't it possible to collect a card in one of their supermarkets? If not I would complain to the manager in the store, then hopefully have him give you one from one of the sim card packs (if they have them). The asda mobile has been pathetic since they've moved to EE.

You can top up by debit or credit card by calloing EE on 150. You can also set up an account via the web; go to the EE site, register via 'My Account' then register a debit or credit card to use for your top-ups.

Sorry - please ignore my last answer about registering with EE; I forgot the question was about Asda Mobile with EE (I now have an EE account following my disagreements with Asda mobile). To top up an Asda mobile by phone, call 2732 from the phone to register a credit or debit card to use for top-ups.

Why is asda mobile customer services so useless? Why do they lie to you day after day? Why do they not answer your e-mails? How can they be allowed to charge premium rate for the helpline, then keep you on hold for 20-40 minutes?

When I was trying to get my phone to work with the asda mobile ee changeover it took nearly 2 months to get where I am now. At one point I tried for nearly 2 weeks to get through to asda customer service, even emails were ignored, then I was given different information from asda staff, different downloads to get my phone to work, even tried asda head office in London to complain but that fell on deaf ears.all this costing me in phone calls. One of the customer service staff told me there was only 20 staff working there, and she, who was a technical advisor had only been trained for 3 months at EE, on my final call I was told my phone was outdated and to try replacing it. Asda mobile worked fine on Vodaphone, but I was told Vodaphone were in serious breach of contract with asda, thats why they were changing.I am still considering changing to another provider, asda mobile is very amateurish, I would'nt be suprised to see this on BBC watchdog.

I went into the local ASDA supermarket, complained & was then allowed to use their landline to call the helpdesk. Let them pay for that service.
