“flimsy poor quality”

★★☆☆☆

written by Puckett368 on 30/11/2015

Having owned the family sized Actifry for close to 2 years on friday whilst cooking some chips the handle came adrift from the pan. when the pan had cooled took a closer look & the plastic had become brittle due to the heat could have caused a nasty incident why use plastic where the heat is ? needs to be redesigned, expected it to last more than 2 years of occasional use! the tefal web site isnt much better the contact us page does not seem to work in the UK

“Less than a year old”

★★☆☆☆

written by Gskman on 18/11/2015

My actifry has given up blowing in less than a year!! It sounds like the fan blower gradually died.this was bought for me as a present and is only 10months old, gets used couple of times a week, dosent get loaded up,as its just me using it. I doubt I will get a replacement from this firm tefal,as it appears that a lot of people have problems with the actifry. When working it was great, and cooked nice chips and sausages, and basically, anything you might try to put in.

“poor construction quality”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 02/09/2014

I really enjoyed using the product untill it broke after 4 months use. the button on the lid broke right off after 4 months normal use. I called TEFAL to see if they could help me and was informed that they would not replace the top but could sell me a new one!! This after only 4 months use and for that price! I talked to the customer rep and she told me they would be happy with the bad press so here it is. I will not buy another TEFAL product as they do not seem to want to help out just sell more poor quality products.

“Bits keep breaking, not reliable.”

★★☆☆☆

written by Guthrieyq190 on 18/08/2014

After reading the hype dished out by Tefal we went ahead and bought one some time ago, it wasn't long before the catch on the lid broke which meant a new lid. Shortly after the warranty ran out it ceased working, paid £65 for it to be fixed and we have since had to purchase another two paddles. Had we been cooking rocks I could understand why it keeps breaking but the thing is used mainly for chips, hardly pushing the machine to it's limit and not cooking anything it states in the book that the thing will do. Obviously Tefal are laughing all the way to the bank selling spares. Never again.

“very poor build quality”

★★☆☆☆

written by pete6768 on 27/05/2014

had actifry family for two years used mainly to cook oven chips which it does very well but have had to replace three handles, two paddles ,bowel and centre tube, considering it only gets used two or three times a week using less than half max weight of food its build quality for me is not fit for purpose

“Waste of time”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 28/11/2013

I bought the tefal actifry and I was very disappointed with it, for several reasons. The first being that the build of it isn't strong enough, It's all plastic, considering the price on it you would expect some bits to be metal or more durable. I made three different types of food in there and it just takes too long, brakes the food, food gathers at one point, half the food gets cooked and half does not. Overall it just takes long

“cooks chips, thats it”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 12/11/2013

Cooks frozen oven chips perfectly, no need for oil, but anything else, forget it. Casseroles, chilli etc dry up so you have to add liquid every few minutes. Tried to cook brown rice for a stir fry. After an hour and 2 litres of liquid the rice and other ingredients ended up a congealed mess with the rice still uncooked. To cook casseroles the actifry needs a temperature control function. How hard could that be?

“Broken within 50 uses!!!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Stacy76 on 23/10/2013

Bought the family sized one and at first thought it was pretty good, evenly cooked roast veg and sausages. Some meals I could throw the lot in and it was "one pan cooking" with very little fat. Just after the 12 month warrant ran out the rim broke but was still usable as I could clip it in place and while the lid was shut it held. Another few months down the line and the handle broke off while I was dishing up which spilt all the dinner! I was not happy! I have emailed a complaint to tefal and had no reply, to which I am really angry as although there is a 12 month warrant, I did expect a £200 appliance, which has not even been used once a week, to last longer than 18 month. It's ridiculously expensive although it does remove chip odour and customer service is useless!

“Rim and handle broke within 12 month”

★★☆☆☆

written by Carlmartin1963 on 20/10/2013

I have had a actifryer for 2 years now. Within two years the rim and the handle has broke twice, paddle broke has well. Why have a rim that comes off? Why not a continuous rim. Also the handle, why not a continuous handle.

“Actifry”

★★☆☆☆

written by paulajard on 02/11/2012

I have to order another paddle as this is the third paddle that i have used, at a cost of £16-£25 each i could of bought enough chips from the chip shop to keep me going for a year, i have decided not to buy another paddle after all and have bought a chip pan again! for when my husband wants chips, the cost alone is just silly but to be replacing paddles this often is like being slapped in the face and i think this is just plain robbery, i am sure they have designed these paddle to break within months, i thought it might be down to washing in the dishwasher,so the second one was washed buy hand obviously tefal are scamming people. A massive thumbs down from some one that has had enough of replacing things on a potential great gadget!!!

“dont buy it”

★★☆☆☆

written by fisherman42 on 17/09/2012

thought this seemed a great present for a friend and it worked great for a while, looked the business then the stirring paddle snapped as many others have also(wish i knew this before i bought it)this is an obvious design fault as they have since changed the design, tefal were a nightmare to deal with despite having guarantees etc, they dragged things out, were fine until they had to send out part foc then they got all automated, not good service and i am still waiting for my replacement, will never buy again from tefal, very unhelpful and very poor service

“I will not buy another ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 10/05/2012

My first tefal actifry blew up just as the guarentee ran out but as I liked it so much I bought another. My second blew up after 4 months which was replaced. The lid then broke, now the paddle has snapped. I must admit it cooks the food very well BUT it is so unreliable.

“Lid Keeps Breaking”

★★☆☆☆

written by mrmeade on 12/01/2012

I have mine for 18 months and am already on my third lid, ive discovered that when the lid gets hot the plastic simply snaps, this product should be recalled by Tefal and the design of the lids fixed before allowing any other customer to buy one, its a fantastic machine and we love using it, pity the lids are of such awful quality, don't buy until the lid issue is resolved

“Tefal Actifry - Waste of Money!!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/09/2011

I have this for approx 3 months. I wish I had looked for reviews before I both it then I would have realised not to waste my money because the lid cracked and the catch on the lid broke. EXTREMELY dissappointed as the chips that come out of it are gorgeous. Very angry that I wasted my money on it.

Tefal do not make very good kitchen equipment. I've had a Steamer and another deep fat fryer but neither lasted long.

“This cooks sausages better than anything else, which...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 08/05/2011

This cooks sausages better than anything else, which is what we have used it for. We found it mashed up chips, but also quite good with fried onions.
Lid broke off after 4 months so very careful washing it etc. Lid was replaced foc by Tefal so no moan there. Second lid has now broken but by putting a weight on it it stopped it popping up, but today the paddle broke cleanly off at the end whilst cooking 6 sausages!

Anyone want a broken actifry? We will not be mending it, also it is huge to store so off to freecycle it!

“The first actifry lasted a month when the clasp...”

★★☆☆☆

written by weracpem on 10/03/2011

The first actifry lasted a month when the clasp holding the lid snapped off after cooking some sausages. Tefal referred me to Amazon who were marvellous and replaced it immediately. Three months later exactly the same thing happened again. It either hates sausages or suffers from heat exhaustion. We loved the chips and everything else and it is a pity but I do not think after reading these reviews that I will risk another one. Amazon gave me a refund but I will really miss those chips. I hope Tefal get the problem sorted. I gave five stars for Service and Support, but that was from Amazon - Tefal wouldn't deal with it.

written by on 15/12/2010

Cooks well but not built to last. My second Actifry has just expired with the motor burning out after 17 months - it's hardly overworked. My first one lasted 12 months, ending in the same way. At £150 none of my other appliances have such brief lives.

★★☆☆☆

written by on 10/11/2010

our actifry is only 10 months old and true to a lot of these reviews the lid started cracking after about 9 months. The right side catch is now snapped off and the left side is not far from breaking meaning we cant use it at all. i cant comment on the after sales from Tefal as i have not yet contacted them. Another example of an appliance that is not fit for purpose. Appalling really.

How can I reduce the amount of small burnt bits when cooking fries? I do not use much oil but still end up at the end of cooking with tiny brown bits.
