they just take your money. I had prepaid mastercard with them.. can u belive they take 7.30 each month? and the said no we don't have montely fee even though I don't use the card and it has no money in it. they also don't send me any mail or email to worng me I have nigative blance in my account because they took the fee each month. one day I recived a call from credit union because direct chash told them I don't pay.. HOW i will know if they didn't tell me!!!!!! I pay Fine with the fee which cost me 460 CANADIAN $.. I'm a student I had hard time to collect this amount of money. also, this had negative record in my file with the credit card company.. this happend last April.2011, until now I couldn't get any credit card from any bank because of this problem yeah also if u want to call the customar service you should pay 2.50 $ each time I hate this bank f...k to them all

I have been with First Direct from the time they started as a telephone bank in Late 80's and were owned by Clydesdale Bank.
They have excellent Customer service. Now part of HSBC I have general accounts, and both a Cash and Share ISA with them.
The online service they have is well established , and easy to use.
They are always helpful, answer the phone, and when they say they will call you back, they always do.
I heard on BBC Moneybox many ISA providers were unsure how to handle the October 2009 ISA increase for over 50 old farts like me, no problem to First Direct. Notification letter and account updated and clarity on how to add more easiliy available.
I would recommend them to anyone.

I have just switched to First Direct Cash ISA and and am loving it. No more dealings with ignorant and grumpy cashiers. They pick up the phone within seconds, they have good banter, I can call whenever I want, they sort my life - they're hot stuff!

I found this review helpful because...its good to know that in these recessionary times someone still has a good word to say about their bank and that elusive attribute -SERVICE-how novel !-from a bank of all places too.
