Overall The Fuji FinePix F100fd is an excellent camera. Image quality and resolution is fantastic in good lighting. Zoom range is excellent on such a compact camera with a proper wide angle. Face detection and auto red eye removal works really well (I did portrait photos of 36 children in a gloomy room and they were all really good).

Only downside is having no mode selection wheel like many other Fuji cameras. Pressing the MENU button brings up the mode selection screen; if you want the menu options you have to scroll through the modes to the 'menu' option before you finally get into the menu with all the options such as exposure compensation or multiple exposures. More options have gone on the Fuji 'F' button to get round this but it is a bit confusing.

Functions you have quick (single button push) access to are:
- Macro
- Flash mode
- Anti-blur
- Self-timer
- Face detection/red-eye removal
- Silent mode (no flash, illuminator light or sound) - press and hold the DISP button

Lots of modes but I stick to Manual for well lit pics (set at ISO 400 auto, Dyn range 400% and usually a bit of over exposure) and Auto for badly lit pics (set at ISO 800) - each mode remembers its ISO film setting etc. so it's easier to change mode than fiddle with all the settings.

The natural light plus flash photo mode is also very useful taking 2 photos at once - one with flash and one without.

The text mode works quite well and, for general photocopying, is easier and faster than using my scanner!

I'm used to a good hand-grip on a camera so I can use it one handed but the F100fd has quite a smooth slippy case and when using one-handed my middle finger often slid too close to the flash causing a partial shadow. I have stuck some self adhesive cork to the front to solve this but it doesn't look very aesthetic!
