“My Nissan Navara D40ST-X is a LEMON”

★★★☆☆

written by on 16/11/2011

I was supplied with my current Navara to replace another D40ST-X written off by the insurance company and it is a piece of rubbish. Clutch/ flywheel failed pre 20000km, followed shortly after by the intercooler dying. Both were replaced under warranty but the clutch issue was not plain sailing - Nissan are not very good to deal with when it comes to warranty issues. The paint was mismatched between the two O/S doors and the dealer won't do a thing, along with a number of other cosmetic disappointments. Once the Navara has gone I will NEVER buy a NISSAN AGAIN - there are far better cars and dealers out there. Don't buy one !!! Next time before I make a purchase I will do much more homework.

“Luxury Tractor”

★★★★☆

written by surferireland on 09/11/2011

This is a great pickup but will always be more agricultural than a more road biased vehicle. It was bought for my wife (replacing an Audi A4 which kept getting stuck in the snow as we live on the side of a mountain) It uses two wheel drive full time to the rear wheels, when you need it there is a manual electronic switch to 4 wheel drive, you are restricted in that you cannot turn a hard 90 degree with this engaged as you will encounted windup of the 4wd system. Now when you do get into the mucky stuff this machine is awesome. So if you NEED a machine like this get it, no worries. If a Rav 4 would suffice then do for that, this is one BIG truck. My wife likes it (doesnt love it) - Never leave it in 4wd when you go back onto paved surfaces you will screw your 4wd system.

Have had the truck for just over 6 months now it has done over 100k and has had engine replaced at some point in it's life.
neg's only two well 3 things part's cost the earth hard ride and lack of bottom end power below 2k rpm.Front tyre wear due to the LSD pushing
plus side well every thing is a plus over than the above getting 40 mpg goes down to 35 when towing caravan 25 feet twin axle so more than happy with it just wish island roads where better.
But have a problem towing back from Devon at the weekend and went round hard uphill corner few noises did not think anything about it ?
But then we noticed a whinning noise from the rear axle any one else had this problem ? I have the D42 with LSD e mail me with any ideas

Edit: go for a run to take engine to operating temp thenturn everything off and shut doors keeping them shut don't know if it makes a difference but thats what they say on the site

Turn ingnition on so all dash lights come on.

Wait 3 seconds

PUMP accelerator pedel 5 times within 5 seconds....

with foot now OFF accelerator wait 7 seconds...

After 7 seconds press and hold down accelerator pedel for 10 seconds...

Atfer 10 seconds the Engine Managment Light will start to flash, at this point remove foot from accelerator.

the Nav is now in diag mode, so let the EML flash for a bit. the press and hold the acclerator pedel down for more than 10 seconds..this will then reset ECU and fuel pump etc......and put them into learning mode.

NOTE: When the EML light is flashing, this is listing possible fault codes... so if you know how to read the fault codes or know the sequences then you can figure out any possible faults with your Nav with out getting the dealer to do it!!

Edit: Fire up and go for a run 5-10 miles

Cheers Ryan

“My 58 reg Feb 09 Navara adventura 2.8 manual has a...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 03/12/2010

My 58 reg Feb 09 Navara adventura 2.8 manual has a split personality; To drive by itself in 2 wheel drive on the road it is smooth and comfortable and has loads of power. One small niggle was the spontaneous movement of the electric seats both fore and aft and into the recline. Fixed on warranty, cause a couple of small catches on the plastic surrounding the seat switches had broken and the cover was operating the switches when I moved slightly in the drivers seat otherwise I ahve had no problems with teh build quality.

However, working the Navara hard either with a trailer or off road and the steering becomes awful. The electrical system for getting the vehicle out of 4 wheel drive low ratio is unreliable resulting in driving around at full revs and doing just 30 mph. Towing within its declared capability, the dual mass flywheel fell apart taking the clutch with it. Change to a solid steel flywheel under warranty and the shakes and rattle underneath are awful. Two more clutches later all under warranty and now teh engine control unit occassionally switches to "safe mode" limiting engine revs to just 1000 RPM, not enough to pull away on the flat if towing. Mileage? Just 42000. When the going gets tough this vehicle does not get going, it breaks down! I hope the new version has sorted these problems.

“I bought this truck new in Feb 2009 and have done 45k...”

★★★★☆

written by Rat Race on 23/11/2010

I bought this truck new in Feb 2009 and have done 45k so far. It has been brilliant in every aspect other than fuel consumption. I do very mixed mileage with a pretty equal split between a roads, b roads, city driving and then do frequent dual carraigeway/motorway runs. It performs everywhere. The steering is light for round town, it cruises at whatever speed you want it to and has the power to overtake when you need it.

I bought this as a company car and of course it is excellent to run due to hitting the loop hole of being classed as a commercial vehicle so no personal tax to pay, but as the company owner, it is still working out more expensive to run than a standard tdi (Civic, Golf, Focus etc).

The combined book is 28.8mpg, but I average 24mpg. The only other thing I would say that has been a very minor pain, is I don't find there is quite enough leg space for the driver and I am 6ft1" tall which isn't huge! With the seat fully back I can't stretch my legs straight out. I have got used to it though, but just sitting in a variety of new cars this week has shown me how much more leg room there is in a car.

Over the 2 years it had one minor fault with the electric seat moving forward when no-one was in the car, which was sorted under warranty and that was it. It has been very comfortable to drive and it's versatility will be missed, but it is just too expensive to run with my mileage.

I have owned this from new and never had a minute of trouble with it. Just completed 60K miles. I wouldn't part with this truck for anything similar. Had a blowout in the front offside at 85 mph in the fast lane of the M6!! steady as a rock. Cant speak highly enough of it as you can probably tell......having hell of a job though trying to find a new brake and throttle rubber!!

The nissan D40 navara is a total lemon I feel sorry for anyone who buys one of these with higher kms and no warranty, build quality is total rubbish the rubbers round the doors fall off all the time ,the door handles break, ticks like a time bomb, diff is useless,.by 150,000kms has needed,4 clutchs, brakes rotors replaced, new head, new front diff,2 rear diffs, new front shocks, universals replaced, what a heap of junk, the only good point is lots of power.

written by on 17/02/2010

Having had my D40 now for 2 years, I can say it has performed very well indeed. Mine does not carry heavy weights, just the gundogs and shooting gear. I do, however pull a 26' twin axle caravan of which you wouldn't even know was on the back when your driving. I absolutely love this truck and would not get rid of it, eve for a new one. The older 05-06 D40's are more economical than the newer one's due to the Euro engines having to meet new emission laws. The performance on the older ones is slightly better too.
I would recommend an auto as they are pretty big trucks with big gear boxes.
The new 2010 model will be out in April with lots of new gadgets such as rear camera, postcode sat nav, ipod socket, heated mirrors and a power increase to 191bhp. NICE!!!!

written by on 05/12/2009

I have owned this truck for two years now and must say it has been a reliable comfortable vehicle. but it has not worked very hard and has only covered 65000klm. After having moved from a grand cherokee I thought I might be disappointed with the handling of a truck as I had owned an L200 previously but the navara has surprised me. If I had to pick a down side it would most likely be slightly poor build quality.
Its not a car but for a truck its great

I've read most of the comments on here and I'm very surprised at the post, i can only think people have forgotten this is a truck!! The Navara is a very capable vehicle in every way and trust me I've had a few to know what i am talking about!! mine is the Aventura Euro 3 so basically the first of the face lift models, it really has it all, built-in Satnav, heated electric leather seats, pleany of power, looks, drivability and more, i take mine off roading also and it has done itself proud everytime, at the end of the day you really are getting a quality vehicle for half the price of a premium 4x4, so what are you waiting for, get out and buy one you will not be disappointed.
PS try http://www.nissan-navara.net/index.php for awesome help and information.

I've had my current Navara D40 Aventura for 2 years, i love it to bits, looks great, drives great, and suits my needs very well.

Plenty of room inside, seats 5 people, electric heated seats are nice in winter, decent sat nav although no postcode search. Very luxurious for a pick up truck.
Would i buy another one? Yes!

“Nissan Navara Aventura Double Cab Diesel Auto Pickup -...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/10/2009

Nissan Navara Aventura Double Cab Diesel Auto Pickup - One of the first people to get the new model and thus I had all of the recalls first. Apart from minor things like the back axle falling off and the half shafts falling out which were fixed under warranty there has been a series of minor niggles and recalls and after 4 years it is really showing its age with body trim and interior trim (esp door handles) falling apart. Also problem with central locking (one door locks whilst driving and then won't unlock again so someone has to let you out from the outside). It is thirsty if you put your foot down, but if you drive like a Granny you can get 35mpg on a Diesel Auto.

I really wanted to like this vehicle, partly because the tax is cheap, but I won't be considering another one - or probably another Nissan either as it has put me off so much.

“These trucks are registered as LGV so the road tax is...”

★★★★☆

written by Figjam on 28/08/2008

These trucks are registered as LGV so the road tax is cheaper than anything else even near its class, a pathfinder will cost you 400quid, the Nav only 180 quid. The new current navara is D40, this is denoted by the bosy shell, the current reviews are a mixture of the older D22(up till 2005) and the D40 (current model)
The D40 is a good all round truck, it is the most favourable and desirable truck in it's class.
It out sells any other pick up, and in my opion probably outsells most other 4X4 models.
I had the older D22, never had a moments trouble with it although as discussed there are conrod issues.
The D40 Aventura, which is the top of the range model with all the leather trim, nice finish and sunroof..blah., blah...blah...
The truck itself is great with the extra BHP, it has a good torque range and when you put the foot down it doesnt lag like other pickups on the market.
It's acceleration continues well above the max speed limit permitted on the UK's roads.
When towing it is a complete delight, you never have to keep checking the trailer/caravan....whatever is still attached!
It pulls like a school boy!
The leg room is fantastic, and has really improved from the D22, the nice idea of rear storage bins under the seats is a great use of otherwise dead space.
The full electric pack on the seats and the fact there heated is a joy and easy to use, very practical.
The installation of the clamps in the rear pick up section is great for attaching and securing loads. was well missed in the older model.
The steering is considerably more responsive and not as scarily as light as the D22, that felt like a micra. Not natural for a 2 3/4 tonne pick-up.
The frequency of service intervals has been increased from 6000miles to 18000miles...bonus for running costs.
Dont even consider anything else to drive pick up wise!
They dont feel, drive and behave anything like the nav!
There are reports of varying MPG, i can safely say i have sat on the motorway with cruise control set at 60mph and got back 46MPG. cant complain at that.

written by howl on 29/06/2008

I will not be buying another. The Nissan Navara is very heavy on fuel automatic gearbox very old fashioned to slow to change, sat nav wont take post codes. Bluetooth usless, when towing its like driving a boat steering much heavier than old model. The brakes are not good enough to stop a vehicle of this size.

I have a Nissan Navara 57 plate and when operating the key fob the lights indicate the doors are open but they do not unlock. I have opened the car by the key on the passengers side and the car starts and drives. The windows are not working and the locking switch in the car is not working. Has anyone any idea on the fault?
