“Rude & Expensive”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 167Arsenault on 02/09/2015

Rude instructors who only encourage people who pass to write reviews....Instructors stood around all day taking the mick and laughing at students who were struggling. I passed, but kept in touch with someone who failed, and when asked if he left a review, he said he didn't know anything about it! Very biased reviews, so hopefully this is an eye opener to people!

“Before you can do a DAS with NLMT you have to do an...”

Before you can do a DAS with NLMT you have to do an assessment, fine as I also ride to work. When I met my instructor he looked like he had been there for years which was a good thing I believed and then he wasted no time in having a pop at the motorcycle training school that I did my CBT with after finding out who it was. Before we went to the bike, I had told him which bike I already owned and then when I sat on the one he pulled out, I wasn't given anytime to familiarise myself with it but instead, we we're straight out onto the busy road. He could see how "uncomfortable" I was at first with this bike and its lowered seat, as I tried to adjust myself but simply told me through the radio-com, to forget it and carry on. Great. In truth I adjusted myself very quickly while riding, had no choice really and went through roundabouts, signalling correctly on roads etc.
When we got back to base I was told that I needed the maximum time training for the DAS and if I failed, I would have to pay "x" amount for a re-test which would turn out to be more expensive than if I just did the additional day that he said I needed, with them. No problem if that's the view of the instructor but I decided to take myself elsewhere.

“North London Motorcycle Training is not run in a very...”

North London Motorcycle Training is not run in a very professional manner. On doing a 5 day DAS course they did not once take me to the test centre where my test was being held so therefore no knowledge of road layouts in the area. Also said that included in the test fee of £155.00 is a 2hr warm up ride before the test although i only received 40minutes. This was due to the fact that the staff where late. Did not call back when the said they would, kept ringing and ringing still no answer. In the end just had to go into the office to talk to somebody.
To conclude I generally got the imprssion that they where just after one thing and one thing only.... £ £ £'s Cheap and cheerful, but all in all, a bit of a poor show.

John,

Have to say, it sounds like you were unlucky there. Here's a bit on my experience:

I did my CBT at Metropolis Motorcycles (who were excellent), and I foolishly opted to do my module 1 at 'Heathrow Motorcyle training' because it was near by. That was a bad decision on my part.. they were diabolical! After that experience, I decided I would travel as far as needs be to get my module 2 with minimum cost, but with an organisation who I felt were going to get me safe on the road. I went to NLMT (Edgware), and it was the best decision I made.

Long story short: I passed my Module 2, paying for 2 days training. My test was on the second day at about midday. I deliberately organised it at this time so that I could get 2 hours practise in advance, same as you.

I passed my Module 2 with only one minor. Not bad given I had only 4 full days in total across both courses on a geared bike. I put it down to my instructor, rather than my own ability. I have to say, I would recommend them to anyone given the attention to detail and experience of the instructors.. why scrape through unsafe, when you can fly through safe?
