The Hotel Miramonti In Rota Imagna, Lombardia Is A

The Hotel Miramonti in Rota Imagna, Lombardia is a lovely hotel set in a idyllic location. We booked as a stop over on our way to Lake Como from Bergamo airport; although the stopover was unnecessary but we had early morning flights and thought it may be a good idea to break our journey. It was wonderful, we were fortunate to be accommodated in the 'room in the clouds' which was actually an apartment very very close to the hotel. This apartment had two bedrooms, a open plan living are with fully equipped kitchenette. There was also a record player complete with records. This was a bonus as my children had never seen a record player and we had great fun with that. The balcony overlooked the hotel; there was also a swallows nest.

The hotel is a pleasant drive from Bergamo, less than 30km, although a good map or sat nav is required as it was not easy to find. Lake Como is approximately 40 minutes away by the mountain roads in the other direction.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and attentive. English was not widely spoken amongst the staff but the Managers son, who had trained in hotels in Scotland and London spoke excellent English, and we could be understood by all the other staff. There were mostly Italian people staying at the hotel.

We had lunch at the hotel on arrival and this was delicious, this was not included in our booking but was very good value. The breakfast that was included in our booking was a continental breakfast but that was more than enough choice with fresh fruits, cereals, meats, cheeses, eggs, various breads, croissants and pastries. Hot chocolate was to die for!!!

The town of Alta Badia is very typical of the area; there is a lovely park to walk around. There were some small restaurants on the main street, all being used by the local people which is usually a good sign of quality. We ate dinner and a lovely pizza restaurant on the main street.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone wanting good views, excellent food, quiet and pleasant surroundings. Bergamo is worth a visit and has a lovely old town with a delightful typically Italian square. The Polenta cakes which are a local speciality are delicious.
