Coming from Scotland, I have not visited Manchester a great deal in the past but me and my wife recently decided to stay over for a long weekend and get a feel for the city. We visited the Manchester Art Gallery and thought it was a wonderful space. We are both passionate about arts and culture and felt there was a huge amount on offer. Some points that were exceptional: - An interactive gallery, which has art pieces that are interactive for people to look at and get involved with. This sort of 'touchable' art is great for children and can really fire up the imagination. - The modern gallery has some interesting pieces. The Hockney piece, of whom I am a great fan is a lovely bitter-sweet touch and the Francis Bacon painting is jaw-dropping stuff. My wife loved the current Grayson Perry piece, who is usually more famous for his zany dress sense than his work. There is a great gift shop full of books, art and cards and a nice cafe to get a cup of tea in. A brilliant place to visit and I can assure you that we I will be returning.
