“Finishing is terrible”

★★☆☆☆

written by JasperChase128 on 12/09/2016

I could cry. Spent a fortune expecting top class service. I have pencil lines on every unit where the fitter has measured up, stickers left on every surface, newly plastered walls damaged, extractor feels flimsy and drops slightly to one side. back panel in a cupboard an inch short, fitter will arrange a correctly measured one to stick over it, cover on screw head missing, handles slightly out of line. Spent all our savings and feel gutted. No offer of any recompense for replastering, apparently it's to be expected? Where's the top class customer service?

“Good design, mediocre installation, poor after sales...”

★★☆☆☆

written by arnief on 25/06/2015

Our new, rather expensive kitchen was installed about 10 years ago - we went for in-toto because of their smart showroom, the sales advice and the design ideas they came up with. And the fact that the cupboards etc were of German manufacture (a sign of good quality or so we thought). Installation was held back 6 weeks because the worktops were delayed due to a port strike in Haifa - who knew they were made in Israel? After a few months the grouting between the worktops started disintegrating (causing moisture to run down into the cupboards below) The guys came out but did nothing about it (apparently the grouting material was no longer available) What this has meant of course is that the worktops have slowly started to 'move' and guess what, the manufacturers no longer exist. But, worst of all, after eight years or so, the kitchen cupboard laminate started to come away from the frame on about 16 of the floor and wall cupboards. No help from the supplier (in-toto) or the manufacturer (their parent company) who hid behind their 'genuine 5 year guarantee' which we discover is probably the worst in the business (most will now give at least 10, if not 15 years, for this sort of deterioration/fault). The manufacturer offered to replace at cost but in-toto wanted to charge for an entire refit, because, guess what, the units were not made anymore and it would be an entire new kitchen. Better to go for the cheap option and replace every few years (we had a quote for a new kitchen with 15 year warranty for ONE QUARTER the price of in-toto). Stay well clear and do not be fooled by the fancy sales pitch.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your feedback.

I’m glad to hear that you opted for an in-toto kitchen because you were impressed with the studio, the designs and advice you were given.

I am, however, sorry you did not feel that the rest of your experience was up to standard. Unfortunately, we cannot always legislate for events beyond our control, such as the Haifa port strike, but we always strive to deliver the best service. in-toto has been established in the UK for 35 years and has a genuine dedication to customers, products and quality. Many of our customers come back to us for another in-toto kitchen twenty or more years later.

In order to assist you further, please contact us and let us know which in-toto Studio you dealt with and we will be happy to look into this.

Kind regards,

in-toto Kitchens Head Office

Thank you for responding and apologies for the delay in getting back to you, as I have been ill.
The branch we dealt with was Bishop's Stortford and, much as I appreciate your willingness to look into this for us, we have had a long and protacted correspondence with both the staff at Bishop's Stortford and In-toto's Head Office, all without success or satisfaction.
I am quite happy to send this correspondence to you for comment, if you would care to look further into this issue. For your information, the issue with which I take greatest exception is the insistence that In-toto provides a 'genuine' (your words) 5 year guarantee. This is pitiful in today's market where 10-15 year (and longer) guarantees are the norm. But of course, it did not affect my decision much at the time because I did not think we would have the problems we had in such a short space of time.
Thank you and regards

I'm rather expecting that this will be the outcome for the complaint I have made. A few months after the 5 year guarantee expired the laminate on a unit bubbled, and guess what, was no longer available from the German supplier.5 years life for an expensive kitchen is not acceptable in my opinion.

“Follow up work”

★★☆☆☆

written by Forza on 24/11/2014

Good kitchen, excellent workmanship and cleanliness. However if you need follow up work-forget it. Woking branch won't even have the courtesy to reply to phone calls or repeated e- mails. This is despite me being more than willing to pay for the work and requiring a new base unit. I've learnt the hard way.

“Disappointed with In Toto Beverley”

★★☆☆☆

written by pleaseanswermyletter on 08/05/2014

We had a kitchen supplied by In Toto Beverley about ten years ago and were delighted with it. When we moved house, we went back to them again. This time, our experience has been very disapponting. Our main concern is that we wrote a letter with a number of complaints but have yet to receive a reply (apart from one acknowledging receipt of the letter). This was five months ago! We sent a second copy, no response. Head Office has had copies, no response. We paid all our bills on time and stuck to our side of the bargain. In Toto Beverley seem to have taken our money (twice now) and cut off all contact. Very disappointing indeed! Under no circumstances would we ever go back.

Dear customer
We are very sad to hear this is your experience of in-toto Beverley. I would be more than happy to help you with your issues if you get in touch. We have recently taken over completely from the person who previously ran this store for us. We did own this company with her however she did the day to day running of the store. As already stated, please get in touch and we will discuss this matter with you. We take this extremely seriously as we pride ourselves on our customer service and receive positive comments from our customers in all 3 of our stores. Testimonials and thank you cards are available to show our normal service.

“No kind of service after guarantee finished”

★★☆☆☆

written by Stone335 on 15/04/2014

We have an Intoto kitchen that was never finished to drawing, however, we have a further issue that will not be resolved by Intoto. Whilst acknowledging we were out of guarantee we contacted Intoto for a dialogue to sort out an issue of doors and drawers badly delaminating. The response from Intoto was "you are out of guarantee". What a surprise we told them that! Also there was a final sentence stating that they were not able to offer any assistance. We have written back pointing out that we knew of the guarantee period and expressed surprise that they were closing their minds to any discussion as to how we can get our doors and drawers repaired,we were prepared to pay towards rectification. We have also pointed out the words in their brochure - quality and longevity. (Obviously these do not count in the real world, only soft words for a brochure). That last letter has not even been acknowledged - so much for customer service and satisfaction. NO we will no longer endorse Intoto kitchens as a long term satisfactory investment.

Dear Kirsty Darcy
Thank you for your comments. We do find it difficult to accept that you can do something now (maybe a bad review helps!) when previously your colleague was adamant that is was our problem. We will contact your Head Office soon and hope the same person (S.S.) will not be handling this case. We look forward to being able to give a more positive review about Intoto if you resolve this situation with us.

i bought an in toto kitchen 5 years ago. the door panels to the integrated fridge and dishwasher have fallen off several times, the panel on the dishwasher cannot now be repaired as the chipboard (?) beneath the laminated surface have crumbled and do not hold a screw now. when i called in toto at the outset of these problems asking to buy a new door panel, they said the range had been discontinued. there was no offer of assistance.

“Intoto Jesmond”

written by edward10 on 27/09/2012

I have had many problem since purchasing an intoto kitchen and appliances from John Mcneil. Odd home made fittings on Alno wall cupboards! I know this was to effect a streamline look but doors are difficult to close. Stone splash back incomplete. Quite frankly was talked into some of the worst SMEG appliances. First cooker hood was broken when fitted. After many weeks Smeg replaced this with same hood but they had changed size and now doesn't fit! Also faulted spotlights Hob is of ill design and poor functionality. Middle wok ring turns black after first use! Problems with the spray on blanco tap. Floor tiles provided and recommended from John are faulted. I have emailed to inform him of problem still awaiting reply? What at first looked good value has been a disappointing experience with very limited after care.

a really frustrating experience. very expensive for what you get. kitchen designer/ showroom are fine. Attention to detail and price point are very poor. They clearly churn these installations out on a regular basis. i particularly wanted the maximum worktop space and what they ended up giving me was just enough to fit over the top of the standard box size unit they installed . could/should have had at least an extra 2 square feet of worktop.

Thank you for your comments. As a small family run franchise we value our reputation and will always try to resolve any issues raised.

We actually only install a small number of kitchens each month, and only after a detailled design and costing process to ensure you are entirely comfortable with design and price. We would welcome the opportunity to resolve your issue if you could raise it with either myself or Greg from a design point of view, or our fitter from an installation perspective.

From the comments you make we are unable to identify who you could be out of the few installations we have undertaken this summer, but if you could contact myself or Greg at the showroom I assure you we will do all we can to rectify your issue.

Kind regards

“We purchased our kitchen through InToto St Albans and...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 10/04/2011

We purchased our kitchen through InToto St Albans and would not recommend them. Initial kitchen design was very good and front of house service was all very charming but sorry to say that once fitting started there were too many flaws. The project manager was not at all professional or up to the job, his coordination of trades was particularly poor and he never appeared to have his customers interest at heart. Emails, texts and telephone chasing didn't ever phase him and answers were so slow to appear, if at all.
Sadly we still have unresolved issues, some 10 months later.
We would always now go on a friend or family recommendation before entering into a project like this again. When we purchased, in 2010, we were unable to find any online reviews for this Company and particularly this Branch in St Albans George Street.

Totally agree, had the same shoddy service from Intoto Cheam. All promises upfront about 5 year guarantee and banging on about excellent customer service in their literature. However, they ignored two emails and a voicemail when I simply asked them to tighten up wonky unit doors and replace a rubber stopped to stop the bin drawer from slamming which I couldn't do myself and assumed was part of the guarantee for workmanship on the units They said it wasn't included in the guarantee and that they would send someone round to do for no charge. That was over 2 months ago. I'm not holding my breathe...

written by on 17/01/2011

Huge mistake buying a kitchen from this lot. Several faults with the delivery. Kitchens are very mediocre. Only 4 months after installation things are starting to go wrong. Plinths keep falling off, doors keep needing adjustments, one door has already been replaced. Cant see how this kitchen will last 10 years.

I had been assured a good German made kitchen. This kitchen is Wickes quality for 3-4 times the price.

Appliance 'offers' are a scam. Retailer said they would allow us to supply our own but charge to fit them. Was almost arm twisted into buying from them.

Monahan's Comment

I would be interested to know which store this was, as I know that most of the Intoto stores would not have a problem with a customer buying their own appliances. The offers are not scams, but generally good value, especially those offered by NEFF,

We used Intoto in St Albans and I would not recommend them. Initially when in the planning phase everything was great but once they got the money and things started to go wrong they did not want to know. Our phone calls and e-mails are not returned and we have spent our time chasing them only to receive dismissive responses. We used our own fitter but asked Intoto to organise the worktops which proved to be a nightmare and we are still waiting on the glass splash back. The kitchen was delivered in September and we are still waiting on items from Intoto. For the money that we spent on our kitchen their service is the appalling.

The In-toto St Albans franchise changed hands in October 2011 and the new owners have completed a number of kitchen installation and customer service issues left over by the previous owners.

We are sorry to read of this persons problems and assure them that if they have any future service issues to feel free to contact us and we ill endever to resolve.

“ Our In toto Kitchen was fitted just about 5 years...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 15/12/2010

Our In toto Kitchen was fitted just about 5 years ago. The quality of the units is fantastic , they are still as good as new, BUT!!! the quality of workmanship is apalling. We have been beset by minor plumbing and electrical problems ever since. The first problem arose on installation when only half kitchen was fitted due to"delivery " problems i.e. the order not being placed or checked correctly. The manager at the time was aggressive and unhelpful!! Can't stop to write more as we have currently yet another leak!!!
My advice is to use another company for your dream kitchen!!

Hi there. I have no experience with the Leamington branch but was asked to reply to your question. My kitchen makeover was very good from planning stage to the finished item . The kitchen fitter, especially, was absolutely brilliant. Quality of the units and equipment was very high. However( and this is most important) - when I required rectification work( which I expected to pay for as it was a few years after fitting) I was treated as if I didn't exist. Not only did it take weeks to respond to my request, they then just totally ignored me. It took several e- mails to their head office for a reply. Even then they weren't interested in the work. I hope this helps you

We used InToto Horsham and they were great. We are talking about different branches here, but our impression is that all of Intoto UK is good. A new kitchen will always have some small issues to resolve, however, InToto will deal with those that may arise keeping disruption and grief to a minimum.
