Lovers Key Resort-Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Nestling on a small peninsular with the Gulf of Mexico opposite the front, an inland waterway extending in past the side, and open inland waterways to the rear, you will not find better for the money in Florida. You will probably not find a better location in Florida for any money (if you like your settings natural).
I go to Florida at least once a year, and visited this new place last year. I kid you not when I say almost every morning when I sat on my balcony eating breakfast I saw dolphins come past. Saw manatees and some amazing birds.
The property is one of only 3 on a small "island" and it is built right up to the water. Rooms are suites with jacuzzi, living room, 2 televisions and a balcony that must be 20 foot extending the whole length (accessible via doors in living room or bedroom). Full kitchen with dishwasher, oven, microwave etc.
Nice pool with waterfall (although it was a bit cold in late October even though it is heated)and a nice little beachbar/ restaurant where they serve up bagels, cereals etc for free in morning.
Decoration and standards are very high- look at the website- it is just like this.
This is located at the very south end of Fort Myers beach on Lovers' Key, quite close to Naples (15 miles). Across the road is a wonderful state park, where you can walk along trails and see what it was like in Florida 100 years ago. The state park is flanked on one side by beach, where the Gulf comes into the bay which in turn goes behind the accommodation. Heaven!
Nice fitness room, free towels and excellent friendly staff (say hello to Richard the manager from me if you go).
My only regret about this review is that others may see it, go and push the price up for me next year!
PS- when there turn left on the coastal road and go about two miles to "Barefoot Beach". There is a gatehouse, but the guard lets you through to what is another state park. This is millionaire's row, and the houses have to be seen to be believed.
