“Overall, the Samsung T100 is a very nice looking...”

★★★★☆

written by Lofty001 on 24/04/2005

Overall, the Samsung T100 is a very nice looking telephone, always wanted one and recently bought one for a cheap price.

I have seen some of the newer versions of this phone, they were not to my liking, as the handset shape and design could not be improved upon in any way.

Wanted the front flap, when closed to light up via a button to view the date and time. The process of entering a new contact within the PhoneBook was touched on earlier.

However, he booklet again declined to offer me a precise way of entering a new contact number.
Further more, had to enter via another unexplained route.

Why did Samsung provide a help facility within the handset, is this to supplement the user guide. The user guide needed to have extra information there for problem solving.

Irritated by the way that I had to derive from upper and lower case for text messaging. The centre overall menu button was, I thought a little to small to use. Received caller numbers ~ could not get the phone to highlight who had called me, unless I went into the Call Records.

Nothing was explained within the makers booklet of just how to block/unblock outgoing calls?. I thought wrongly that it was under Phone Settings.

In the end, I found the facility under Network Services. Again back to texting. The curser was too slow to react to carry on with letter clusters ABC/DEF ect.

When I 1st got this Samsung T100 mobile phone, i thought that it was great....It was very good to show off...as the phone looks VERY expensive and it made u want to flip it out in front of people..if you wanted to show off. Typeing TXT messages is another thing though, the phone responds slowly to your typing, and You cant save your own words into the dictionery, and to type the word that you want, you need to go and turn the dictionary off and then on again, after you have typed in that word

The Samsung T100 is a good looking phone for people who know little about technology or for people who arn't not intrested in it.
It is shame that 2 times cheaper C100 have better
tech content (IR,java,GPRS etc)
If you love samsung just like I go for S300m

written by themaxmethod on 09/09/2003

This Samsung T100 mobile phone has great potential but is let down by a few stupid things that Samsung could have fixed. The predictive text is the worst I have ever used. You can't add new words to it's dictionary, so those of us with non-standard names or a more 'colourful' use of language are stuck. Reception is also not as good as it could be.

But hell it's a pretty phone. If you like the looks and don't mind shouting at it when you're frustrated with its stupid features then get it.

I've had this Samsung T100 for a while, seems OK. My first non-Nokia. It does it job. Nice to use, nice looking. Although feature wise its quite limited. The phonebook and SMS are very primitive. SMS is stored only on SIM, there is no list of messages - its 1 message per screen, the phonebook doesn't allow more than 1 number per name. The silent mode isn't (still vibrates and switching off and on is not a subtle thing - the welcome tune always plays!)

It's quite a good phone, it has one of the best colour screens on the market, and the polyphonic ring tones are loud and clear. The battery life is the worst of any phone on the market, and there's no camera, considering your paying £250, on pay as you go.

“I bought the Samsung T100 mainly because I have many...”

★★★☆☆

written by Nick Parr. on 15/05/2003

I bought the Samsung T100 mainly because I have many Samsung products (digital landline phones, fridge freezer etc) and have always found them to be reliable and well styled. Although it performs relatively well I do miss some of the features that I had on my old Nokia 7110. Firstly the bad points - access to the phone book is far too lenghthy. With the Nokia you just press the up and down arrows and you are scrolling right through phonebook - on the Samsung you have about three keypresses before you can do this. Secondly they should have included an external button to activate voice recognition - with the T100 you have to negotiate the menu and take about three keypresses to activate this - sort of defeats the object as it is probably just as quick to access the number direct from phonebook. Battery life - far too short - even with the extended capacity battery I am recharging about twice as much as with my nokia. Lack of access to JAVA programming means that you cannot download replacement games to the rather dire selection of 3 they have on there. Also their appears to be no means to alter the warning tones for texts etc. Now the good points. Reception is good on Orange. The colour screen and PC package mean you can scan in and use your own pics as wallpaper. The PC link also enables you to download poly ringtones FOC from the web as well as get free conversion software which will convert your own recorded midi files into MMF format to play on your samsung. The quality of the ringtones is superb but can be a bit soft in tone - particularly if in your pocket. All in all it's OK but I think newer generation phones will quickly outpace it.

Just like to point out that if you had actually read your manual, then you would realise that you can set the voice activation to automatic so you don't have to press three keys to activate it.

“This phone looks stunning but after using it for about...”

★★★★☆

written by Allante. on 02/05/2003

This phone looks stunning but after using it for about two weeks i have slowly gone off it. There is no customisable dictionary for texting like on the Nokias (my last was a Nokia 7110)so you have to spell out an unknown word every time you put it in. There is no Infra red and although i bought the modem lead to connect to my laptop i never managed to get it to dial out. I'm not into gaming, i figure if you want small portable gaming you buy a gameboy but the games on this are so slow they are literally unplayable. You cant store more than one number against someones name which i seem to need to do these days.
I also think that it tends to be a little bit 'Chad Valley'in some respects, eg the silly lighthouse that spins round when its searching for the network and in particular the way it says 'see you' when it shuts down (it also has a little cartoon person that waves at you on the outside screen when it turns off but i bet theres a few that havent noticed that!)
Having said all that its a nice little compact phone that really looks the part and as a phone is more than adequate...I will however be changing it for something else tomorrow!

“I got this phone in February purely because the way it...”

★★★☆☆

written by steve. on 17/04/2003

I got this phone in February purely because the way it looks. Thats all i got for my money. The colour screen is very colourful with 4096 colours but its pretty much wasted on this phone as you can only look at the pretty pictures you put on there with the software and cable you get, making this just, a glorified wallet. A week after buying this phone the ariel broke in my back pocket another down side to this phone (the huge ariel). A few weeks after buying the phone the cover to the hands free kit no longer fitted. The lack of MMS and Java are a major disappointment as including this would have made it a very appealing phone to everyone. The lack of infrared also means less connectivity. The data cable can only be used to transfer wallpapers and tones. I have not yet found a way of using it as a modem for my laptop. Much as this review has centred around the bad points the polyphonic ringtones are probably the best i've heard. If this phone had included java it would have been the perfect companion to the huge array of colours that can be displayed on the screen. If your after a phone with loads of features wait for the Samsung S100. It has more features and a bigger array of colours for the screen. If your after a sleak and sexy phone to impress your mates with get the T100. The T100 is in a class of its own. It's helped bridge the gap between the Ericsson T29 and the Sharp GX10. It has all the features of a T29 but with the fun of a GX10.

I'd get a Samsung T100n if i were you, but at first its all good and you cant help but compliment it, but you'll soon get bored with it and sooner or later start complaining so much you'll go and buy yourself a Nokia 3310.... heheheee!

He's right, I loved this phone, It's got a cooool screen, the tunes are ace (I downloaded some real good ones - mission impossible!!! yeah!)
<br>BUT......Texting is a nightmare - it uses a real dumb system - especially if you are into Nokia.
<br>
<br>I went and bought a nice little nokia. It's a phone at the end of the day, good graphics are fun for a while, but that's what the xbox is for.
<br>
<br>Nokia get it right- while samsung make it an absolute night mare with a phone that is so slow, it's like a pc from about 10 yrs ago.

The games on the Samsung T100 phone are rubbish and as yet i haven't found out if there is any possible way to download any, i hope there is, as the lack of selection on the games really does let the phone down. Also i haven't seen any really nice eye catching backgrounds, as far as i can see there aren't any. the phone, in my eyes, really wasn't thought out properly.

I like that I can put my own pictures (8 of them actually) as the screensaver. I also love polyphonic ring tones so def bonus there, and of course the colour screen. I travelled from London only yesterday and played one of the games, and I think it's good but very slow and boring. If they were a bit quicker, they would be OK. No option of downloading new games :(

written by Tarkan. on 23/11/2002

The large color screen, multi-colour LED and polyphonic ringtones are amazing. It is a great accessory to carry around. And for the basic usage for calling it is excellent. Expectedly the battery life is very limited, and if you open up and use the display, battery runs out very fast. Well that is to be expected ... I would have expected a little bit more functionality from a GSM with all these specs. But nope. The address book functionality is very basic, only name and phone number. You cannot put additional contact info like e-mail, multiple phone numbers, and even long names. Also, while writing SMS, if you receive a call, bye bye all the effort, the text is gone. Also, there is not much use for the large screen, apart from playing games. There is no GPRS or i-mode, and no bluetooth. But overall if you just want a good looking GSM, it is a good choice. And I find it the best looking GSM around.
