“parking fine”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 12/09/2015

Don't shop often in local lidl as parking is difficult due to small car park - managed to get a space last week and spent short time shopping, and a very long time waiting at checkout. Wasn't asked for vehicle registration at checkout & so assumed that it wasn't needed. Received a parking fine of £90 this week because checkout girl hadn't logged my car details on. Have just spent 3 hours trying to get pics of receipt and appeal to their car park scheme uploaded. Pretty awful service and won't bother with going to lidl again.

“shopping experience”

★★★★★

written by madijen on 11/09/2015

I have shopped at Lidl's since your Merthyr store opened and are very satisfied with my experience in you store. I am looking forward to the new store opening in November. I still go over to the Tredegar branch for my weekly shop now, although it is a bit of a bind, but I like your range and wouldn't think of shopping anywhere else.

“Second time in”

★★★★☆

written by on 20/08/2015

I have just got back from the new Sittingbourne store and did visit it when it first opened. Now my financial situation has changed and income reduced slightly. I consider myself a reasonably prudent person with regards to money and took my time to wander the store looking at the variety of items and prices. I only spent £14 but was impressed by what I got for that amount of money. It is now in my mind to shop there much more and make you the main supplier of my food. I like the car park arrangement too as it stops people parking there and then not shopping there so a good move. Well done

“threat of fine”

★★★☆☆

written by AdityaHicks on 09/08/2015

checkout at Sittingbourne said I would be fined £90 if I did not give REg no of car-I could not remember my number and I only popped in for a few items and left-but as an elderly customer it has left me upset.I have used your stores in Austria and Germany as well as all over England and have never been told this before. If this is the case -put a notice advising customers that they must register the car with you-I find the store and food excellent but this has left a bad taste with me.

“poor service at checkout”

★★★☆☆

written by 368Waddell on 29/07/2015

This was my first visit to Amesbury, I usually call into the Andover store but today I wanted to see if there was any difference in the checkout. No no difference at all. The queues were at least 10 deep but no other assistant was called to assist in checkout. This is such poor management. I know Lidl want to keep prices down but whilst I was in Amesbury today two people walked out without purchasing their goods, people cannot be expected to wait like this. Very poor. The Andover store has just been refurbished and been given lots more check outs but guess what they only used two so what was the point in spending money on checkouts...............beats me!!!!!!!!

“Scottish rolls arrive at stores fully cooked and frozen?”

★★★☆☆

written by AnnGrump on 10/02/2015

I live alone, am elderly, in poor health and go shopping only when necessary. I am very partial to the 'store baked' Scottish morning rolls of which I buy 4 or 6 at a time, using what I need on the day of purchase and freezing any others. At least I DID until recently! The last time I used a home frozen batch of rolls I found them to be "chewy', and tasting not at all like they had previously. In store yesterday when I went to pick up some rolls I noticed moisture on the rolls and suspected they were not too long out of a freezer, instead of the expected oven. Putting my hand in a plastic bag I picked up one of the rolls only to verify what I had thought, the rolls were very cold and semi-solid. I broached the subject with an assistant, enquiring if the rolls had been frozen after being FULLY COOKED and he said they came in that way, that they were not bakers and ALL their rolls came in frozen, further stating that frozen food should not be thawed and re-frozen. At this I politely pointed out that I was well aware of that fact, but this did NOT apply to part-baked rolls baked on the premises. These COULD be frozen without detriment, and indeed, HAD in fact been frozen by me for many years. However, I further pointed out, as with ALL frozen foods, FULLY COOKED frozen rolls could definitely NOT be thawed and re-frozen without detriment. I then suggested that the store should place a sign on those particular rolls stating that unlike all the other bakery goods, being fully cooked and frozen upon arrival at the store, they were NOT FIT FOR FREEZING! I personally doubt that the Scottish rolls came in fully cooked and frozen and am more inclined to believe a practice of freezing any surplus rolls to reduce 'wastage' is a more likely explanation

“Poor Checkout service”

★★☆☆☆

written by KaylahSutton235 on 26/11/2014

A friend recomended Lidl to me.I visited a new store in Honiton,East Devon. There was a long queue at the one checkout that was manned.People in front of me were moaning about this.A manager came out of a side door,I asked if he was going to open another checkout. He muttered to himself, then begrudgingly got a young girl to open another checkout. IF YOU DO NOT WANT CUSTOMERS,KEEP THIS UP.I SHALL NOT BE BACK !!!!!

“good food good value”

★★★★☆

written by on 17/11/2014

I have shopped at lidl roath cardiff many times, great fruit and veg and bakery, fish is good value also the tinned ham is the best ever, wish there were a few more brands especially cereal as I have to go on to another shop for cereal. A big negative is the rush at the checkout with no room at the end, however fast you go they go faster like a race and leave you a bit stressed, we are spending money have a bit of patience.

“returned goods - do no honour warranty”

★★☆☆☆

written by sarahhumphris on 28/10/2014

took a hand held rechargeable vacuum back to branch in Weston Super. mare and was told it was out of the year warranty, but this had a 3 year warranty which came with it. it was just over a year old. assistant called manager and was told to ring this 0870 and was told LIDL do no honour the warranty as more than a year old. was told to e mail the manufacture. this I did and scanned the receipt to them. got reply from them to confirm that it was still under warranty and told to send the original receipt to Germany. was getting quite angry by this time as to why I should have to do all this and also pay for postage. so my husband rang lidl customer services (mind you it is a call centre) and was quite rudely told to send original receipt to them. I told them I took a faulty item to their rivals Aldi which was over a year old ( but still in the two year warranty)and instantly got my money off my shop there. Citizens Advice Bureau also confirm that Lidl should have refunded me. so I would be a bit wary of buying anything in Lidl that has more than a years warranty.

“Green Grocer's Broccoli Mix”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lexda on 10/08/2013

Normally I am happy with what I buy at Lidl, but I ...sider the item above to be a ... and will not buy again. The packet shows a fair mix of around one third each of Carrots, Broccoli and Cauliflower as is claimed on the outside of the packet. In reality it was mostly sliced Carrots with a small amount of Broccoli and Cauliflower. Nothing like the misleading picture on the front. I consider this is fraudulent trading similar to the pictures on a packet ...taining a thick, succulent meat pie when in truth the pie ...tains a third of the meat with copious amounts of slimy liquid which oozes out all over the plate. I think something should be done to curb such misleading advertising. Maybe we, the cheated customers, shout report these swindles to the Office of Fair Trading.

“Shocking Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by skypypiersy on 29/06/2013

i was in a branch the other day and a cashier took out her mobile phone laughing and joking with a team member. The cashier was also rude at the point of sale. This is the first time I have seen anyone take out their phone in a shop before. I reported this along with another matter to complaints and they were replied 9 days later (very slow) and didn't address the complaint. I went into the branch a week later and the same employee was still there, it seems they don't listen to customers, all they care about is themselves. Then I escalated this to the CEO via email and he hasn't even replied. Lidl UK is truly has shocking customer service - Beware

“MAY I JUST SAY THAT LIDL IS A CHEAP STORE, WITH SOME...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RETIREDNEWSAGENT on 12/07/2010

MAY I JUST SAY THAT LIDL IS A CHEAP STORE, WITH SOME GOOD BARGAINS! THE WAY A CUSTOMER IS SOMETIMES TREATED IS NOT VERY GOOD. THEY ADVERTISE A PRODUCT IN THIS CASE A LG MOBILE PHONE FOR JULY 12th, I GET THERE BEFORE THE SHOP IS OPEN WHEN I DO GO IN I ASKED ABOUT WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED? ONLY TO GET A BLANK LOOK, SO I THEN ASKED A SENIOR MEMBER OF STAFF WHO TOLD ME I MUST HAVE GOT THE DATE WRONG. I ASSURED HIM I HAD NOT. ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY HAD NONE. WHEN I GOT HOME I DOUBLED CHECKED SURE ENOUGH IT WAS IN THE BROCHURE JULY 12th ALSO IN THE DAILY EXPRESS THAT DAY. THE ONE BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPANY IS YOU CANNOT TELEPHONE THE STORE TO DOUBLE CHECK! YOU CANNOT TELEPHONE ANYONE! IN MY CASE A TWENTY FOUR MILE ROUND TRIP FOR NOTHING. THIS HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN. THEY ADVERTISE SOMETHING THEN SEND THEM SIX WHICH LASTED FOR HALF AN HOUR OF THE FIRST DAY. NOT VERY NICE FOR THE CUSTOMER. IT DOES PUT YOU OFF GOING THERE.

“My partner and I visited the new Lidl branch in...”

★★☆☆☆

written by john hawes on 05/06/2010

My partner and I visited the new Lidl branch in Braintree Essex on 02/06 this year. The shop itself was clean and tidy, and we have always found staff at Lidls helpful and friendly when we have been to the Harwich store.
Sadly, at Braintree, we met the rudest, arrogant and almost hostile check out assistant we have ever come across. He rudely grabbed the trolly out of my partners hand, bumped her leg and slammed it into the delivery side of the checkout desk. He almost threw items at the trolley, and when my partner asked him to be a little less aggressive, he merely ignored her. She then told him that if he injured her with his manic hurtling of items, she would sue him, to which he shrugged and said "OK". He dropped a lime on the floor, and when told about it, he replied loudly. "Well, Ive only charged you for one" clearly meaning he had no intention of finding the one he dropped. We said that we bought 2 because we needed 2, so with as much bad grace as possible, he found the lime under his desk, and threw it in the trolly like a small boy in a tantrum. Not once did this man smile, his thanks was a mutter, he was inneficient, rude and arrogant, something we have never met at the Harwich branch of Lidl. We have determined that if he is on a checkout if we go there again, we will refuse to have him process our purchases, something I have never ever done

When i shopped in the Bilston Lidl 3 months ago it made me decide never again to repeat the experience. The staff were amoungst the rudest that I have ever encountered. When I arrived at the checkout witha trolley full of shopping I emptied the basket fully then proceded to place afew very large preformed bags in the trolley to catch my shopping as I hurled it back into the trolley following the scan of the items by the very ruse checkout person. This person then informed me that I was not allowed to pack my shopping there (there was actually no where else in the store for me to follow her instructions). If I had not paid a pound for the trolley I would have walked out

Mr J Viner's Response to helenaTolleyWilliams's Review

Written on: 02/07/2010

I found this review very helpful because...we have had the same sort of treatment at some stores we been to. my biggest gripe is, WHY are customers e.g.[take a way& Rest;owners]allowed to bulk buy e.g.cola at 19p for 2ltr and sell it at their tables at a pound a glass??????????.
Also you put items in your flyers which in many stores are never seen,we are pensioners and have watch what we spend, and what on, most of your goods are good, and the right price for us.
But!!!! its damed annoying when you see something you want and when you get there it's not there.
My partner wanted a sewing machine when they where in the flyer some time ago, (loh and behold )two ladies in front of me had (8) on two trolleys, spoke to the manager and was told there was nothing he could do about it!!, this was in mendalgief store in newport s.wales.
We still shop with you but get very dispondant about being let down by your flyers. The staff you have your two stores in Newport, ARE PRETTY GOOD
...
We hope this comment gets some attention paid to it
Thanks Mr J Viner & Ms S Ford.. We give you 3 stars!!!
