I wasn't expecting much from the Sony Ericsson T68i when i bought it but was pleasantly suprised by the what the mobile phone offered for its price (£100 from shop) it has an IRDA port and Bluetooth that are really easy to use and link with everything i have tried it with, the memory or battery life can compete with any other phone but the only problem is the limitation of picture taking if you use the camera attachment because of the 256 colours

Im just writing this review in defense of the Ericsson T68i, I was shocked to see so many people critise this phone! This phone is one of the best phones ive ever used and ive used all the top phones on the market, I get the impression the people who dont like this phone are nokia users unwilling to try learn how Ericssons work. In truth this phone is very easy to work, I would pick it over a Nokia anyday, it looks so much better than the standard boring old phones many people have, youll be hardpressed to find a phone that does as much in the same price bracket! This is a very reliable phone, its really does look great you dont get fed up lookin at it, the only bad things about this phone is that it can be slow to load up the phonebook when you have just turned it on, and if you are intending on using this phone with the camera youll be disappointed - the camera is woeful! Overall one of the best phones as long as you dont want it to use with the camera!!

I know what you mean. The T68i is a great little phone. Understand that, by allowing anyone to write a review or make bad comments, it allows idiotic people to sabotage a good phone as if it were terrible for their own reasons - such as they dont like SE phones, and are die hard Nokia fans.
<br>
<br>Someone disagreed with my review of the T610, 6 times in one day to lower my reviews credibility - it just shows how immature some people are.

I found this site by accident looking for a replacement for my T68. It is the worst phone I have ever used in the last 15 years and I am not a phone bore. It has been replaced by Orange three times this year despite my protests to be allowed to change. The reception is very poor and it crashes all the time.

I have owned a Ericsson T68i on orange for a few months and i have been impressed but disapointed with it, they do seem to have troubles picking up reception and as you know the camera is quite poor, i have just brought a Samsung X100, it does not look anything special but it makes the T68i feel like it is from a diffrent generation with a 65,000 color screen and polyphonic ringtones it is a very nice little phone, i do miss some of the features though

I have owned this phone for a year and have had no problems, this is my 4th phone in 8 years and is by far the best I have ever had. It has good range, very duriable, so many features and is built for the growing tecko freak. I have a number of Blue tooth perphils and they all work well and will now always want a phone with Blue tooth in it.

i had the t68m software upgrade to the t68i, there has been a lot of new things in the phone, its faster t9 is a little better, loads off new pictures, works better with the camera, it was worth having the t68m software to t68i without selling my phone and having to buy the next one up thanks sony, the gprs is better than wap and cheaper, but there could have sorted the bluetooth out, mined you the ir port is good for doing ringtones, the camera is the must have, i love it

What's wrong with the BlueTooth? You can leave it on 24/7 if you want, though it will use more battery. The 3 minute thing is only that it can stay discoverable for 3 mins at a time & that is for security purposes.

“Ok i have been a Nokia user for most of my mobile life...”

★★★★★

written by Zulu69. on 10/05/2003

Ok i have been a Nokia user for most of my mobile life (4 years now). I have had no problems from Nokia but when i saw this phone and saw it given for free i decided to give it a try.

First off the joystick needs some time to get used to especially if you were using a nokia. After little time though the joystick becomes Intuitive and honestly betters the nokia setup greatly. Navigation is a breeze. The screen is large, readable and bright! Honestly it is a joy to look at. It greatly enchances the mobile experience. Although the screen is only 256 colours, it doesnt seem to be at all. I think this is because that even though it is only 256 colours, it is only 256 colours AT ONCE (with a greater colour pallette) and therefore when i do transfer pictures little change is noticable. This brings me to my next point, transferring pictures. This is a great idea.

Features such as a picture phone book is unbelievable! What ordinarily would happen if someone called you is that their name will show. On the t68i their name and assigned picture will come up! So you can photograph the person , transfer it to the phone and assign it to their name. When that person calls you their pic comes up! Also you can have a wallpaper for the phone or even change the entire theme of the phone.
sites like
http://www.mobiledia.com/t68i/backgrounds/day/page1.html
give you all you need.

Now to the phone it self. This is one sexy phone. I have compared it with all new nokia's and its smaller than the lot! It is incredibly light as well. The contour of the phone enchances its appeal and makes it easier to hold and use. The flashing green light makes it easy to find in the dark. Now i must say i have only had this phone for 3 weeks but my friend has had a t68 and he has dropped it A LOT even on tiles and the phone still works. It seems to me like some people troubles while other have none. So far i have had none. As i said the screen is big and makes messages, emails and pictures a pleasure to look at.

The phone also has (as you probably know) MMS. Now this means that you can send images (moving even), sound and text like you would in an sms. I have a couple in my inbox when i received the phone and they are pretty cool. I see no real reason to use them yet, but because this phone has this features means that in the future you wont be left out if MMS becomes common.
Also there is WAP (mobile internet) and you can recieve email with even image attachments!
Also this phone can be connected via infra red (great if you have a laptop), bluetooth or data cable (sold seperately). So sending things is has never been easier to do. Free software on sonyericsson.com also provide image editing and connection software, wallpaper and more.

Also if you read the manual you can get all
cool shortcuts from the phone. I go to uni and when i forget to silent my phone the ringtone will sound while i fumble in my pocket. With the t68i the little tab thingy on the left can be shifted once to silent the ringtone or twice to hang up entirley -pretty useful feature! And thats what i find my self saying everyday. There is SO much to this phone in the detail. The tab thingy can be also shifted while the phone is normal to give you the remaining standby time or talk time. (with such a small, thin battery it is incredible that the phone can go for days without recharging)
You can also format you sms to include bold italic strikethrough, etc! and more importantly it is easy to do so!

There are games as well (9 in fact). Most i dont like at all (and they have removed tetris ;( ). But two games are fun as. One game is a battleship type game and the other is only cool when you get some good pics transfered (in my opinion). This game is one of those cheezy arcade games where you cut away to reveal the backgraound images. Now since you can assign the background image that you want, you can assign any picture (use your imagination) to be cut out and hence the game becomes much better ;). Entering you high score in is a spinout as well cause it is like the arcades.

Sony ericsson have gone all out on this phone and it shows! There are a slew of features and options that makes you wonder why no one else came up with them till now.
This phone is a joy to look at, to hold and to use.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Basically the phone is good especially at this price. I like that the phone has no built in camera because it ads to the cost when cameras like that are not always in use.. The phone is so good that I bought my son a T68i

The large fonts are handy however the menu system looks nicest with the smallest font used. Also, you CAN return to the main screen with one press of a key, just hold down the NO key & you are returned to the standby screen.

written by Matt. on 16/02/2003

I bought this phone before Christmas and so far I have found nothing but good features and great fun! I chose this phone because it was really small and I have always liked these sort of small phones since the nokia 8210. The T68i's menu system is great with its joystick (if you are new to the phone it may take some getting used to!). The games are good (my favourite being Erix). The thing I also like in a mobile phone is the option to download extra things like ringtones and logos and this phone can receive ringtones picture messages (in colour) and Themes. Coming to the colour screen this is a very nice quality screen and the colour is great. If you don't mind scanning the net for colour pictures to download you can find some really good quality ones (I purchased my pics from http://www.ringtones-plus.co.uk/ So if you like quality plenty of features and a small handset this is the one to go for.

“Don't see it too often on magazine, web sites or...”

★★★★★

written by sapibob. on 14/01/2003

Don't see it too often on magazine, web sites or commercial ads. This phone is much better to look at when you hold it yourself physically. At first time i thought this phone is too bright, too fancy and not solid. See it and touch it directly change my mind. It is rock solid, made of hard plastic, don't crack when you squeeze it and looks stylish (i like the grey case better though). The keypad is newly designed and the finishing don't deterioriate easily like T68. T68 emblem disappear and replace with new Sony-like microphone case design, and of course, "Sony Ericsson" emblem. The general complexity is pearl white (or broken white) and arctic blue. I like the firmer grip of rubber-sealed battery in T68 though. This phone is a rebranding strategy (maybe?)of T68. Lots of commercial and branding efforts (including the scene in 007 Die Another Day movie). Physically almost the same with T68 except for the case and the brighter backlight. And, of course, the new firmware, which the T68 can handle too (for T68 owner, see your local SE for upgrade). Based on FCC documents both are electrically the same. The inner hardware is good. Filled up with features. 256 STN Color Display 101 x 80 pixel, GSM Three Band, e-GSM, Two Line Service/Alternate Line Service, Voice Dialling, GPRS Class 4 module (3+1 slot) up to 64.2 kbps data transfer, Internal antenna and modem, Infrared, integrated Bluetooth module, sound recording, i Melody and AMR, and the famous snap on camera. It has more than 800 kb free user memory for store pictures, sound, animations, etc (totally approx. 1 MB). Lack of speaker phone and poly ringtone. The Software is good : EMS, Long SMS (up to 1500 character), MMS Phase 1 (Power Point Style), Picture Phone book, Multy Entry Phone Book (up to 510 entries), WAP 2.0, WTLS Class 3, XHTML Support, E-mail Client IMAP-POP-SMTP, Games (where is the Tetris? aaarrgghh!), Windows-Like Theme including screensaver, GIF, animated GIF, WBMP, JPEG, advance Melody Composer with Sound Effects, T9 Input, PIM with vnotes, Sync ML software with Outlook and Lotus Notes support, etc. Lack of Java support. It has internal dynamic memory manager so the amount of files such as pictures, animations, etc is limited only by the size of the memory. Unlike the Nokia 7210 which you can only saved few item per category. It has brighter screen better than N7650 and the snap on pictures are far better - if you see it in a pc. The sound is crisp, clear and loud enough. Users who usually use the flip will need some time to get used to this new-shaped phone. The SMS alert is suck, i oftenly missed many incoming sms in a noisy environment. The green flashing light is useful especially when your signal bar is only one left (you can still send sms but not calling). WAP is very fast unlike Siemens S45, and stable unlike N8310 which always disconnected suddenly. The option button gives you useful command while browsing. The cookie support gives you no hussles to repetitive password and user name typing. You can log in automatically. I like the vnote feature which is useful if you want to write something important in a hurry. And you can sync the phone book, contacts etc with the pc too. The bluetooth is great and can find other gadget easily and the connection is stable (don't separate more than 6 meters though). Quite fast to use as a modem while you're browsing with your laptop and, yes, it is cable-hussles free. Nothing special with the li-polymer battery, approximately only two days for power user (calling, sms, gprs and games). Too bad they don't include the data cable in sales package (which is more useful than the camera to me). Visit SE service point and look for firmware upgrade. Maybe in the future they will put Java support in it? Who knows. The most recent one in my country, R6A, makes the menu browsing faster and more stable. And they add support for the digital zoom feature of MCA-25 snap on camera. Forget poly ring tones, this phone doesnt have any supporting module for multi-layered tones in it's mainboard.

This Sony Ericsson T68i is one of the best mobile phones around - i reckon it's better than the samsung t100 as it has more features even though it does not have any poly. But anyway the poly on the samsung t100 is too quiet which is why i prefer this phone.

★★★★★

written by Gerard. on 04/12/2002

I purchased a nokia 7210 some 2 months back and have never been so disappointed with a mobile. Fortunately I've got rid of the blasted thing. I decided to replace it with a T68i and I have never been happier. I told myself i'd use othing else other than nokia, but I guess i'll have to slap myself for saying that. One key draw of the nokia 7210 was its polyphonic (quadphonic more like it) ringtones, but I reckon it's somewhat overrated. Although tones sound richer, they lack volume and I've missed countless number of calls, to my dismay. I'm a mac user, and with the T68i's bluetooth connectivity, I'll be able to sync all my data using apple's iapp, I sync, a definite plus if you're a mac fanatic like i am. :) the T68i fits perfectly in my palm, unlike the nokia 7210, which was almost slab-like. The T68i is a welcome switch for nokia users, interface is rather similar with very negligible differences, and unlike nokias which come with interchangeable covers, the T68i is almost dust-proof, i.e. you don't get those irritating little specks on your display. My only gripe is that the T68i's keypad lacks depth and has a rather synthetic feel, making sms-ing a tad tedious, but one could get accustomed to it over time. Forgivable oversight on ericsson's part. I think, therefore I switch.

My phone has many dust particles trapped between the inner and outer screen. There is no obvious way to gain access to this area to clean them off with an air duster. Has anyone attempted this?
