“SUZUKI 1800”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 25/07/2013

I have had my Suzuki 1800 for around 9 months and it is not holding up very well at all. The chrome finish is starting to go dull, the very expensive servicing costs, the fuel economy is dire and some bad electronics (rev counter stops then goes backwards ?. I have had to have the head bearings replaced under warranty and the injection sensors, front fork left leg (upside down part sprung a leak (also done under warranty). I have not got rid of the bike and bought a Honda VTX1800 with 3,000 miles on the clock and have had not one problem, I may have had a bad bike from new but it is Bike for the weekend and to sit on and look good at the sea side as i can not now see any practicality of the Suzuki 1800, The extras cost a fortune even for a silly part, This is my opinion based on owning a new Suzuki 1800 so be warned if you have a second hand one as you will have no warranty just bill after bill after bill from the garage.

I had my bike for nearly 2 years, a year old when i got it, and no problems what so every, and it still look good.
I have a few Harley in the past and they all had problems and a victory jackpot, oil light came on and wouldn't go out, big engine trouble in the end..
All I can said the intruder m1800 is one of the best bike I have every own, I been all over the uk and Europe, easy to work on and It nearly has 22000 miles on the clock.

Simply, simply the best modern cruiser to buy, ive just part ex one in black with a back seat for one in white blue stripe no back seat ( this is for me) low mileage, best colour combo to get. This has best street prescence then any harley/victory/triumph etc etc. Im a hard nut on this bike..... come on then! Just trying to give you the sense of the feeling public.

Hi since I have owned the bike I have learnt that this thing is a beast, it has style and really stands out so much so we started a forum in it honour www.intrudercruz.forumotion.co.uk the bike itself has a lot of room for modifications which a lot are simple bolt on products, its comfy enough for distance and a pose around town, we love the bike at intrudercruz and really would like to promote the bike as much as possible, the bike is simply awesome and I've not regretted the purchase, for its size it is nimble and fast, at slow speeds its ok but if you add a tre is will smooth it right out, I would certainly recommend this bike if you don't believe me please go test ride one then come join intrudercruz on uk rideouts its an amazing sight and sound, if there is anymore info you need regarding the bike feel free to drop in and say hi we are not a business just a huge fan of this bike who will give honest opinions Regards intrudercruz

Markallen24's Response to intrudercruz's Review

I will be collecting my Intruder m1800r up next week. I am a little concerned because all I seem to read is that some Intruders had gear problems, jumping out of 2nd gear.
I love the bike, it is a 2012 model with 3800 miles on the clock. Blue with white stripe.
Does anyone know how I can find out if this problem was ever cured. Thanks in advance.

I have been on two wheels for 35 years now and pretty much owned most things,Sports bikes, retros muscle bikes. never owned a cruiser. Saw one in the local dealers and traded in my old one. From the first 50 yards I was hooked. What a bike easy to handle and hides its weight well at nearly 750 pounds fully fuelled. The only problem I have is fighting off the crowds to get back on it once I have parked up, a real crowd puller. Great at low speed and awesome acceleration if the desite takes you. Thanks Suzuki for giving me the Grin factor again.

What a machine it is a cruiser but it has an awesome acceleration. Only problems that I have is the grinding of the front pegs and the heels of my boots going round corners due to pegs being so low. But hey I can cope with this. BUY ONE

Passed my test at the end of Sept 2010 and bought this bike the following day. Absolutely awesome machine! Can't keep the grin off my face and I look forward to riding every mile. A bit ponderous in corners (this may be me being tentative) but acceleration is awesome, looks fantastic - a real head turner. So glad I have learnt to ride as part of my mid life crisis!!!

“The M1800R is an awesome bike to ride and handles...”

★★★★★

written by on 08/08/2010

The M1800R is an awesome bike to ride and handles great, but does have to
be treated with lots of respect because its not a very forgiving bike if
you get it wrong in a corner etc. The build quality could be better, but if
looked after and cleaned regular it should be ok. The acceleration is
breath taking and certainly gives you the big grin factor. Ive had loads
of different bikes over the last 30 years, but this is definitely one of
the best for comfort, never had a numb bum yet, even after 300 mile rideouts.

If anyone is interested there is a growing UK owners forum that covers the
M1800R and all of the other Suzuki Intruder/Boulevard models on

Back to biking after a 10 year break. Fell in love with the bike,as soon as I saw it in the showroom. The bike is so comfortable...and easy to ride.It hides it vast size and weight so easily. You can cruise all day in comfort. But when the mood takes you...it a uber sports cruiser. Breathtaking acceleration. It certainly draws a crowd when you park up.In a nutshell...its the best of both world....cruiser and sportsbike.

★★★★★

written by Pete Stretton on 30/06/2010

The Suzuki M1800r is a fantastic bike with a hugh wow factor. It can be ridden as a cruiser or be rode hard like a race bike. The handling is good the brakes are excellent and it is also comfortable.I have owened around 28 bikes including 5 factory cruisers and 3 chops.I can say that this is probably the best bike I have owened. The standard exhausts give a nice sound but have changed these for a set of Highwayhawk snake pipes (these compliment the lines of the bike) and a Cobra fuel prossesor. The pipes are quiet on tick over but give a very throaty rumble when underload. The only complaint I have is I would have liked the bars to pull back about 2 inch's more. This would improve the seating position for more comfort. In my opinion the only bike to come close to this bike for looks is the Harley Night Rod but look at the price difference.

what a bike, gone from an electriglide which was great aswell, but this is superb .I gave up sport bikes due to the speed factor and my age 55, but this is the mutts nuts, lifts off the stand with ease, it's not heavy in the corners and although i have warn the heel on my boots a little it's still a breeze to ride. can't fault the gear's at all it's a big lump of an engine so give it time. i bought this untried, i saw in the show room and bought it, a great decision, all i need now is some sunny days ye haa.

was just looking around the dealers and it was in stock so i just bought it untried.brilliant all round bike and fun.heavy on fuel but thats not the point.for comparison, its not as quick as my rocket 111,but makes up for that with better handling.
it sure attracts crowds when you park it.
not so easy to ride in heavy traffic as the rocket as it needs more gear changes.of course, the rocket pulls away in any gear.you need to try both bikes.suzuki has more bike feel, rocket is more car feel.suzuki 30mpg,rocket 40mpg.both do about 130mph and the suzuki is more stable at that speed.

Bought the Suzuki Intruder M1800R in November after years on sports bikes. I wanted something different and something i could ride all day without having to stop every hr or so to stretch my legs(i'm 6'3"). It was love at first sight, i was hooked, then i rode it. Had to have one!!! The more i ride it, the more i want to. Loads of torque, smooth power delivery and worth every penny. Discover the teenager in you and buy one!!!

★★★★★

written by on 12/04/2009

I got a hankering for bikes again after 25years since the last one, this Suzuki Intruder M1800R is just amazing and lets an old fart of 53 years scare the hell out of and embarrass a lot of twenty something year old sports bike riders. I am surprised that some say it won't handle cos I don't have any problem throwing it through the corners, even though you have to grind the pegs a bit sometimes, mind you weighing 18 stone probably helps. I bought it last July and have done 5500 miles on it since, it just begs to be ridden hard but eats up tyres really quickly, I am on the third rear and well into the second front but its a small price for so much fun. If a bike like this had been around 25 years ago I would never have had a break from riding. It goes like hell and stops well, brilliant.

I came from the mad world of hayabusa's on to my 1st cruiser M1800R, what can i say! thanks Suzuki for makin such an awesome machine still fast enough to be silly on, so comfortable & a pleasure to ride, this bike draws crowds so its no good bein shy to own one of these, mine has just covered 1500miles everyone being a pleasure, never the slightest chance of a fluff or hiccup in sight, & always looks showroom after cleanin, go ride one you won't be disappointed. I'm not dissin harleys, both my brothers ride them, i've ridden nearly the whole harley range, but bein on my Suzuki Intruder M1800R is so much better for me there's a lot of bike beneath you & i'm sure my fellow owners will agree.
