the renault 5 GT turbo.. at the first glance, the exterior body-kit, grill and badges let you know that this is a Renault with attitude! nice bucket seats and sport steering complete the sporty temper of this little car at the interior. no ABS, no power-steering, nothing computer-assisted, but oh! the thrill! it didn't have the looks, but it definitely had the moves! the 1.4 turbocharged engine developed 116bhp, plenty if you come to think about this car's weight: 820kg. it was very fast in a straight line, but the light back end made the car oversteer sometimes, when cornering hard. a little rocket that constantly gave me the feeling that was trying to kill me but still attracted me in a very strong way! The only big problem was it's reliability.. definitely not the most reliable engine ever, but then again, the car had some mileage and a decent age when i bought it. any potential buyers should first check the car's oil level and quality (headgasket), the coolant for any oil spots (headgasket)and the exhaust for smoke (turbocharger). they go around pretty cheap but make sure you dont get hustled, if you have no mechanical knowledge, best move is to go and check the car in a authorised shop. not a every day car, but definitely worth having in your garage for fun!

I have an H-Reg unmodified grey Renault 5 GT Turbo. She has an astonishing: 143,000 miles from new! Bet you didnt think they could do that!? & Un marked interior! Only defects that have been sorted were: Front O/S hub & bearing, Passenger electric window motor died, Exhaust Downpipe! When I bought her she hadnt moved in 2 years so not bad considering!! & had a dead battery which just got me to the garage, no service history, no tax or test the list goes on.... Now waiting for other parts to return her to standard concours condition!

my Renault 5 GT Turbo has now got p.a.s, hopefully it should be even quicker than it was as a 1.4 doing 0-60 in 4.1 and 147 mph flat out. Unfortunatly it went pop at santa pod on the hottest day of the year when the h/gasket popped and the expansion tank covered the strip and my w/screen. I am currently working on a 1.7 turbo

I like these cars but i know a few people that have owned thes cars and they tend to be unrealible. tends to eat oil like anything and because of the age of them now you dont know how the last driver treated them. Also the turbo was only intended by Renault for short bursts. because people play around with the boosts and bhp it can put serious strain on that little 1.4 engine. Only buy one of these if you really love the car and dont mind to keep chucking money at it, as it can be expensive.

I don't think very much of the 5's at all, but you know- each to there own! but in my eyes there weak! I just have one more thing to say and thats for the lad who said his supra will kill a ferrari or porsche I have drove both and owned a 911 turbo and he must be mad to think that!!!!

The GTT isnt as good as u think it is. And there is nothing wrong with having a different engine in a Nova. Just because your choice is limited, doesnt mean ours have to be ;) The R5 GTT owner I would have to take my hat off to, is Ian Nixon. Twin engined R5 GTT that can out do a Diablo to 100mph?!? Gotta be good :P Gonna get my car running properly soon and will be taking it to the pod, see what she will do up the strip with 315bhp :D Btw, have you ever had your car rolling roaded to prove its output 300+bhp? There are far too many ppl out there claiming power they aint got :P
