“I'm not one to dispense accolades easily, but this...”

★★★★★

written by Pyromania42 on 21/08/2003

I'm not one to dispense accolades easily, but this little phone really is quite excellent. Most of the reviews that do not give this phone high marks complain about the fact that it's not enough of a toy. They want to compose ring tones, take pictures with it, play videogames, etc.

Personally, I buy a phone to make phone calls and write text messages. And the 6510 is the most reliable phone I have ever owned (memories of my ericsson phones make me shudder).

All the features are well implemented, I have never missed a call, the reception is great, there is tons of space (and folders!) to store messages and phone numbers, the vibrate alert makes your whole pocket shake, and the menus are super easy to navigate. The fact that it has a radio, a calendar and fast WAP are bonuses.

Yes the games could be better, ring tones are not quite Beethoven, and the phone doesn't make ice cream. But ask yourself what you're buying your mobile phone for. If it's to actually make phone calls and communicate well and reliably, while having a stylish little thing that fits everywhere, the 6510 is for you.

written by Kat.. on 24/05/2003

I've had the Nokia 6510 for almost six months now. I have to admit, I never had any problems with it. With me being a Nokia user already, it only took a couple of days to get used to its new features. I have to admit, I miss the ringtone composer that my previous Nokia had, but that's a minor point when I consider what a reliable, stylish phone this is. Lightweight, small, user-friendly, good for fast texting, good reception, high resolution screen, fast internet access.
Put it this way: I have not seen many people trying to get rid of it, this might suggest something. All in all, it might not be a fancy phone (no colour screen or MMS) but it does its job and it does it well.

In general this phone is very reliable and i have had no major problems except the ones i have mentioned, but my girlfriend has had a lot more problems with hers. For instance saying theres no reception when it has a full signal and displaying the networks name, also it keeps cutting off in mid calls and taking forever to turn back on, this is her third phone from nokia and is still having problems. If anyone has had any of these dificulties could you please either reply here i would be most gratefull.

Th3 6510 is similar to the 8310. The 6510 has a better calendar display and an electronic wallet (fine if you do internet banking). If you enter *#0000# into your 'phone you will get the software version. My 'phone is running V 05.06 07-03-02 and occasionally crashes when I am writing an SMS message and I lose all that I have entered for that message. It doesn't happen often and I find it best to frequently COLD start your 'phone by powering it off, waiting, then powering it back on at least once per week. It's like any computer, it occasionally gets its knickers in a twist and a cold start loads the software afresh. Otherwise my 8310 is running okay. I imagine the 8310 and 6510 have very similar software. I know my software is not the latest and there is a later version available V 05.11 27/05/02.
<br>
<br>Think about getting your 'phone's software flashed-up at a Nokia Care Centre.

I've had the 6510 since Jul last yr. It seemed fine for the 1st 3 months then the problems came. It will auto-reboot when a few SMS comes in at once or when I'm composing a new SMS. There are other symptons as well but overall it just hangs or give me a "blue screen of death" similar to WinNT 4. It's most annonyin at times. Overall, it has great features but I just wished it hasnt hung so much.

My 6510 crashes too often! It is so annoying...I just can't be bothered to txt people anymore, because when it crashes all I have inputed are GONE! It is very strange...I don't trust nokia with their software anymore...most of my friends had nokia 8310, but they all BROKE..my mum's 3310 is also broken! Lucky I am getting a new contract soon...i want to get rid of this awful 6510...It is so slow...when you try to open your inbox...have to wait for 10 years...I guess the memory is too low...MAYBE NOKIA company should go back to their CELLs and investigate the problems before they sell more! HUM! Sad isnt it? I always had Nokia...but now its time for a change...

This is the best phone I've had! It gave my money so much value because of its features and size! It has all the features I've been looking for in the 6310 but without the big bulky size. I've always wanted to get the 6310 but I never liked its large size. It's also not as small as the 8310 and the 8250...the size is just right for me!

From nokia 6210 to ericsson t39 to nokia 8310 then nokia 6510 mobile phone...the most stable and and easiest to use is the latter. Surfing via GPRS with my iPAQ is a breeze...small size, higher screen resolution (more pixels than most nokia models), nice calendar view, love the phonebook, longer battery life than most nokia models, sleek and simple design...as nokia says...small size - big impact. I thought the t39 was the phone for me but when I saw this in the nokia website...it was love at first sight...even more when I saw the features. This phone will be staying with me longer than my previously owned phone.

The 6510 from Nokia offers everything a serious business user could look for in a mobile phone. Ok, no bluetooth but I get by without that. All functions are working without a hitch. Pleasant feel and looks. Excellent battery life (4-5 days average use without radio). Not for the flashy person who tries to attract attention with flashyy lights and polyphonic tunes. Ideal for the person who wants an efficient and effective communication and personal data tool.

I have had a lot of mobile phones the last few years. From the Orange Dancall to the nokia 5110, 3210, 8210, 3410 and lots of others. But i think the Nokia 6510 is the best phone by far. It is amazing with a laptop. I just think it is the best phone by Nokia for a while. I will be keeping this one for a while and it fits in my purse. So don't have to worry about losing it on a night out.

Well I've purchased the Nokia 6510 mobile phone last saturday and i love it already. A great look, beautiful pastel blue backlight and the best phone I had so far. Before I even had the 8910 for a while but that one is not practical and the 6510 IS!!
Boy o boy, radio, voicerecorder, radio, GPRS you name it.
Most important though is the phone itself, great sound, good reach and very sleek an slender.

I also bought a N6510...the phone is great, though I had a problem with my PIN-code: it didn't accept it.
But, beside that, I can't really tell you a bad thing about this phone...its wonderful.

This Nokia 6510 is one cool mobile phone, good design unlike the 8310 (a toy i would say). I have no problem with the buttons. The blue backlight's brightness is just right. Everybody (mosts, in some cases) is going for an 8310.. if u wanna standout, go get a 6510 now! You won't regret! It's got every feature of the 8310 except BETTER.

Upgraded to Nokia 6510 mobile phone from R320s Ericsson. I was amazed about the speed (although I know Erics are very slow indeed) and display color/resolution. The size is cool and vibration is also very pleasant. And the price here was about 100 pounds which is great! The battery lasts about 5 days while normal "traffic" on the phone, cool. Can recommend anyway ..

I have used a lot of phones like nokia 6210, 8310, 8890, siemens sl45, panasonic gd92, but this Nokia 6510 mobile phone satisfied me more than any other one. The games are in new pattern and it is treat to play them. No worry about battery timing it last several days.

★★★★★

written by matt. on 28/06/2002

I went into the shop, intending to upgrade to an 8310, but then i saw this Nokia 6510 mobile phone. It has more sophisticated looks - the 8310 looks and feels more like a toy than a phone.

A phone needs to look good, and this is the best looking one on the market at the moment, no doubt. No flashing lights and whistles, just a good performer, and stylish.

Performance wise, it's like any other nokia, robust and reliable, although it does feel slightly more fragile than the 3330 (which was a truly "bomb-proof" phone, shame about the looks).

Get one, no regrets, it's a great phone.
It does exactly what it's made for, and does it well.

I think I will only consider upgrading this phone when good quality, full colour, HTML browser compatible phones become available- WAP seems like a waste of time and effort to me.

Until then, I am 100% happy with this model.

written by ash. on 21/06/2002

i have had the nokia 6510 mobile phone for 3 months now and i think it is really cool. Previously i had a nokia 8310. The 6510 is basically an upgraded 8310, it has a better screen resolution, battery life and reception quality. i think it looks better too! the 6510 is aimed at the business man and is a commuter phone. it has features such as 'wallet' for storing credit card information when buying from the mobile internet. the fm radio is good too. it offers a good reception even when on the move. the ringtones sound very clear and it can store 10. the games are:- snake 2, bumper (pinball), space impact, and pairs 2.
The nokia 6510 is a fantastic mobile phone though i have had problems with it - it tends to turn itself off when typing or sending a sms message although i have had this trouble with nokia phones in the past.

★★★★★

written by Alan. on 18/06/2002

Had the Nokia 6510 mobile phone for 4 weeks now and overall very impressed with it. My only criticism is that maybe it's too small and the keys are too close together for rapid texting. I've now decided to buy the 6310 as it has all the features of the 6510 but bigger spaced keys for texting (my main use!)

Anyone interested in buying a 4 week old, unlocked 6510?
