Used Acer Aspire 7720 As A Desktop Replacement, Th

Used Acer Aspire 7720 as a desktop replacement, this laptop is fine; its excessive weight is not an issue. It has performed well as such for a year now. Some early boot-up hang-ups seem to have resolved themselves (via updates?).

The cooling system is nice and quiet, unlike the Hi-Grade Ultinote's I had, that drowned out the puny speakers!

The 'Crystalbrite' widescreen is perfectly ok for what we want (word-processing, displaying photos, watching i-player, etc). It suffers little from ambient light reflection and has a fairly wide viewing angle compared to some cheaper LCD TVs, say.

It comes with HD DVD, but I guess that's not exactly a plus point these days, is it?

I use the Acer e-audio function quite a lot, and it's quite impressive how you can improve the sound of your stored music using the 'Rock' setting, and obtain pleasing levels whilst watching a movie. Certainly much better than the Dell it replaced.

Nobody who has used it likes the keyboard, though. "Cheap", "Bouncy", "Grubby" are some of the comments about it (the last one because it's a nasty pale grey colour that shows every mark). I suspect its excessive flexibility might be partly responsible for the cursor jumping all over the place as you type on it.

Despite this, it is a well-specced machine that does its job, it's not slow, has plenty of memory, well-positioned USB slots, etc.

Yes, my Acer Travelmate 5730 (my work laptop) is a much greater pleasure to type on, but it lacks many of the goodies on the Aspire.

If this machine is on offer anywhere, and you're not planning on using it to type your next novel, go for it.

Purchased an Acer Aspire on 15th/10/2008 and it was faulty within a few days and returned to the store on 21/10/2008.

Major boot problem when left switched off for a while then when trying to turn the notebook back on all that came up was a black screen and a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner and it stuck there until it was turned off again!

We were lucky that this problem arised so soon and we were able to return it back to the store and exchange it for a completly different model. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone has this is a very common problem with Acer machines and neither Acer or the pc world store were supprised at this.
