Ok For Learning
I've got a 2004, 54 plate X9. It's been great to learn on. It's a sturdy, heavy scoot so it feels more secure than a 125 bike.
Its been reliable...ish.
The biggest problems with it are that the parts are not only expensive, but take an age to get hold of. Most of them have to be sourced from Italy for genuine piaggio parts, but even aftermarket parts to fit take at least 2 weeks to get hold of. It took a month to get a water pump, and another month for an after market exhaust.
Ride quality is good. It is smooth and has a great take-off speed. After about 60mph it starts to feel a bit shaky and not quite as sturdy as at lower speeds. For commuting, it is fantastic.
I'd recommend it for someone learning to ride. It is sturdy and it feels like it doesn't want to leave the road. In the year I've been driving mine, I've not come off it or felt like I'm going to.It inspires confidence and that's what learners need!
However - make sure you've got a good few pennies to throw at it. Also make sure that there's a good bus route, or a back up vehicle for when it does need new parts.
