“ICING ISSUE FIXED”

★★★☆☆

written by on 04/06/2011

I've had this FF nearly 5 years and after about a year experienced the icing issue reported by MANY people. After a couple of fruitless "dismantle and defrost" attempts I discovered that the CAUSE of the problem in my unit is the small black drain pipe which exits to a tray at the back of the FF (accessed from outside at the back). Instead of being circular, this pipe was crimped shut at the end and was simply not draining out and had collected some debris, causing water to back up into the freezer section and icing followed ... my simple solution was to chop a small section off the end of this pipe, clean it through with a bent skewer and open it out using a couple of cms cut off the casing of a biro :) So far it has been working trouble free for the last 3 years, and bar this design flaw seems to be a decent unit!

Thanks for this suggestion...I've just tried it. The pipe was closed and opening it back up was a fiddly job but it immediately started dripping once I had done so. Fingers crossed this works for me!

Generally i've not had any problems with the running of the FF, i've not had any issues with its temp, or ice build up, however, this morning I noticed that the door for the freezer section is rusting!!!!, its started in the bottom corner next to the hinge and its spreading by the look of it, great! i've had it about 4/5 years. now can't decide whether to get rid of it or not, but what kind of FF door rusts! next one won;t be hotpoint or sister company indesit.

Same as nearly all the other postings. Owned for 4 years, had icing up problem after 2 years, engineer fitted new fan and other part only for it to go wrong again within 6 weeks. Next engineer removed fluff and ice from drain and ok for 18 months - probably the new parts had not been needed! Same problem has happened again - sitting waiting for engineer to come now. If I had seen this site before would have got my husband to take the back off first. Will try this another time. Shame, because this fridge matches my other appliances and am loathe to get something different.

I have had this appliance for 35 months. A control module failed within weeks, but was quickly, willingly, and effectively replaced. About 6 weeks ago the leakage and ice build-up reported by others started to happen. I asked Hoepoint for advice, but was only offered the usual £104 call-out. I have written a formal complaint, and wil pursue the matter. Not good!

Looks good, thoughtful design of compartments, which is main reason we bought it. Bought it nearly 3 years ago, but over last 12 months it regularly leaked water out of the bottom, and constantly removing ice from bottom of freezer. Recently managed to fully defrost for 26 hours, but within a few weeks it's doing it again!! Hoped to find a simple solution searching internet and came across all these like minded reviews!! Not sure what I'll do now??

How do you reverse the doors? I can move the 2 top door hinges no problem, but the hinge on the bottom door I can get off but can't swap it across to the other side because the screws won't tighten, there seems to be no threads in the holes the screws just turn.
