We were transiting through Schipol on the way to London and we engaged Amsterdam City Tours for organizing the day-tour for us through the City, Canal cruise , Zaanse Schan and Volendam. We thoroughly enjoyed it thanks to their excellent guide Jeannette who was full of knowledge about the places and of energy taking us from place to place. Thanks also for the coach! it was indeed a surprise to ride in the AJAX bus. Amsterdam has been the highlight of our European Tour thanks to Amsterdam City Tours.

Last August I had a six hour layover in Amsterdam, so decided to take the 3 hour "City Tour from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport including a Canal Cruise" tour, advertised at a kiosk near the restaurant at the beginning of "E" terminal. The price was € 49, so I thought I'd try it.

The staff were both courteous and professional. The staff must see a boarding pass before they will sign you up for the tour, to ensure you are returned in time for your flight. They will limit the number of people on a tour in order to make your experience more worthwhile. My group was limited to four of us. We all spoke English, so an additional translator was not required.

The tour bus was a good sized van with large windows that ran up and into the top of the vehicle, allowing views straight up. The tour driver was excellent in both driving skill and knowledge of the area. He custom tailored the route at the wishes of the group. The tour stop at the wooden shoe factory was very nice and very informative. The one hour canal tour was definitely worth the time, and the stop to see one of the eight remaining windmills was a nice touch.
