Hi,

We are extremely sorry to hear that you weren’t completely satisfied with the service we provided recently.

Without knowing the full details of your policy, it’s difficult to comment on the particulars of the renewal call. However, we pride ourselves on delivering brilliant customer experiences here at Caravan Guard, and so I would like to take a moment to explain why your premium may have increased on this occasion.

The price quoted on the renewal pack that’s mailed in the post is based on the details provided when the policy was initially taken out. Naturally, policyholders’ circumstances do sometimes change throughout the year, so we always encourage customers to inform us of any changes over the phone before they renew with us.

To ensure the details of the policy are up-to-date, our advisers will ask if any of the following has changed:

• Contact Details
• Occupation
• Storage address
• Main caravan details
• Sums insured
• Change in excess

They will also ask if additional security has been fitted to the caravan or motorhome and whether European cover, emergency expenses cover, and legal expenses cover are to be included on the policy. Furthermore, policyholders will be asked if they have an additional year's no claims discount to apply and if they would like to protect it for a small fee.

The answers provided here are factored in when calculating the renewal premium. If there’s a change to the sums insured on a new for old policy for example, the value of a new replacement model will most likely increase year on year, meaning the total annual premium increases. Similarly, if they decide to increase equipment or personal effects cover, the premium could increase.

A change in home or storage address could impact the premium too, particularly if the unit is moved from a secure storage location to an unsecured park or postcode. Policyholders who remove certain security devices (e.g. tracker and axle wheel lock) from their caravan or motorhome may also see an increase in their premium as such items generate sizeable discounts.

I hope this offers some clarification on why a change in postal or storage address may have affected your premium.

If you have any further questions or queries, please email us.

Kind regards

Lucie

Hi there,

On behalf of everyone here at Caravan Guard I would like to apologise for any confusing when downloading documents.

We try to make the 'Policy Documents' download tool as easy to use as possible and position it clearly on the website.

If you would like to go through your details with me over the phone I can hopefully try and iron out the problem.

Many thanks,

Lucie Carter

“Very Good Value for Money except for Breakdown Cover”

★★★☆☆

written by CampervanmanK on 30/12/2013

The telephone staff are helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. You seem to be mostly able to tailor the insurance cover to my needs and vehicle in a way that other insurers do not. My only gripe is constantly being told that breakdown cover is included when to me it is a £37.50 extra that does not & cannot meet my needs. Make this cover optional and you would really be winners.

“Cancellation fees extortionate”

★★★☆☆

written by ttdisgruntled on 11/09/2012

I have no complaints about the staff, but I had to cancel my policy, due to selling my motorhome after 3 monthly direct debits had been paid totalling £94.11 (£31.37 per month). I then received a letter claiming that I owed them £114.73 as part of my direct debit agreement re cancellation of the policy. I did not recall this being made clear at the time of taking out this policy. Potential customers be aware of this clause, Insurance is a very expensive commodity anyway, without being charged extra for cancellation fees. I did ring and complain and must admit the staff were very helpful and looked into this, and they wavered their charge but I still had to pay £71 to the Direct Debit Agreement Company.

“BEWARE 25% CANCELLATION FEE”

★★★☆☆

written by on 20/07/2012

I have insured through Caravan Guard to insure my caravan for the last six years. Caravan Guard provided competitive prices compared to other caravan insurers including the caravan club. I never made a claim, so cannot comment on how a claim would be dealt with. When contacting Caravan Guard, thier staff were always polite and helpful. However, had I been aware that Caravan Guard make 25% ADMIN CHARGE of the remaining outstanding fee on the policy, I would probably have opted for the caravan club policy in the first place, initially a little more expensive, but no extortionate fee. I dont recall being informed of this fee and I have now been informed it is in the policy booklet, something which I havn't had for some time.I also notice other customers reviews, have like myself, only become aware of this fee when cancelling thier policy on selling thier caravan. Caravan Guard have a standard answer on the three reveiws I have read, that they are reveiwing the cahrge for the following year. The first reveiw was wrote in 2010 and here we are in 2012 with the same issue.Come on caravan Guard, its time you did reveiw this fee, your letting your product down, I was a very satisfied customer with all services provided by Caravan Guard, but find this fee unacceptable and now rather than being happy to return on any future caravan purchase, I will now go elsewhere.I would have been happy to pay a set reasonable cancellation fee outlined at the outset of the policy but the current fee is a lottery on how much you pay, dependant on when in the twelve months of the life of the policy you cancel.

“I found that they didn't go through the insurance...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 10/03/2010

I found that they didn't go through the insurance details fully and found when I required to claim I was not covered fully. while the payment was basic to the expence (I'd only have the van four months!) they did pay up promptly. It's up to you to get the full cover for your possessions, they don't help!

We made a claim quite soon after taking out the policy, when we had not had our van for very long. It was quite large - the side was ripped, including the sliding door and the toilet cassette door.We found Caravan guard very helpful and good to deal with, and the claim was paid promptly with no quibble.

I am very impressed with my quote. However, I would like more information with regard to the cover when abroad. How well am I covered for repairs and repatriation?

Hi, Can I ask which insurance scheme you are referring to? Motorhome or caravan insurance? I can give you all the details and information you need once I know which scheme you're querying.
