At one point i could easily recommend the site, but not anymore... Prices can fluctuate significantly for the same book (independent of taxes/currency differences), depending on the IP (!) EVEN IF THE SAME DELIVERY ADDRESS IS LISTED! Discounts/coupon codes are rare these days & on & off you may be subject to orders you've placed, cancelled & refunded out of nowhere with no consideration of compensation to be given. Customer service can range from excellent to exceptionally poor, bordering condescending & dismissive! The strange thing is, book depository was bought out by amazon, yet to this day, amazon does have one of the best, attentive standards of customer service so how is it that it has not flowed through to book depository? In all honesty, it's as though book depository does not feel the need to 'try' with their customers anymore... These days, i'd recommend up & coming sites like 'awesome books' - sites that have re-focused on customer service, expanded range & offered more competitive prices at times than book depository offers.

After many good interactions with this company, I needed to return an item that arrived defective. What should have been simple return became a week-long battle of jumping through hoops, ever tighter and higher. First they requested photos to prove the damage to the book in a book/DVD combo item. Photos supplied. Then a part refund was offered. Declined. Next, I was asked to ** make a video ** proving defectiveness of the DVD. A clear description wasn't enough. If you are 100% certain your item will arrive in the condition you expect and you are 100% certain you will never need a refund, then by all means this seller is appropriate. But if you sometimes return damanged or defective items, then either avoid the Book Depository, or home your photography and videography skills and expect a momumental battle. I would have liked to have known how excruciating and prolonged the return period is so that I could have chosen another seller.

I placed an order for a book, paid by Paypal using my usual stored address for delivery to my place of work.Money took, email order dispatched July 20 for 3-4 day delivery. August 1st still no book.Customer service chased, if the book is returned in 5-10 WEEKS by Royal Mail, we will resend or refund if not wanted, a query on the delivery address as the Paypal address that had been successful on hundreds of other instances, had amazingly changed from "Lancashire" to "North West" ?? Company name, Unit Number,Industrial estate and post code all present.Being a Work address with lots of mail, post is held and delivered by van, it seems very strange that a posted item with 6/7 address details correct didn't make it through.I asked for proof of postage in order to claim on the Royal Mail, I was offered a reprinted packing slip,(time stamped with todays date). The book may have gone astray but 10 weeks for a £5 book to be replaced/refunded ?

Ordered many books from the Bookdepository. The packing was never too good but sofar the books survived. Last order never arrived and all my mails are done off with the answer that they will contact me when the parcel comes back to them. I don't think so because it is impossible to trace your parcel. I guess someone somewhere is getting a nice book collection for free.

I always buy books, but ever since amazon started charging "Import fees deposit" I stopped buying from them, and started buying from thebookdepository. I have never been a fan of their service, they just put the books inside a bubble padded envelope and that's it. Considering that some orders have to travel a couple of continents before arriving to their destination, it sounds odd that they should be so cheap about packaging and prefer risking returns. I put up with that, I didn't even complain when after months of having ordered a book it still hadn't been shipped, only to find out later that "our supplier has informed us that your book is going out of print" and so I would not receive my long awaited book. And I only found out because I asked, they didn't tell me anything, but the funny thing is, I checked a couple of weeks later to see if it truly wasn't available, and oh! it was! for $5 more than I had initially "bought" it for!! But I've had enough now! I'm sick of seeing my books arrive in "used" like state. I'm sick of only receiving patronizing responses from their customer service!! Who cares how little the book costs?! I want it new! I bought it new! They advertise “free shipping worldwide”. Ask a friend from another continent, preferably from the UK, to check the price of a book and comparate it to your price, or better yet, visit their website through a UK based proxy, free shipping? I understand that they can't offer true free shipping, but if there's something I don't like is being lied to, and also why not putting a little more effort into packaging the books so they can arrive in perfect condition if you are making us pay for the shipping anyways?! I don't know where I'll be getting my books from now, but it sure won't be from thebookdepository.

Book depository boasts that it offers free worldwide delivery - but what they omit to tell you is that the price they charge per book differs depending on the country they identify your computer to be based in..... For example, a book for which customers in the UK are charged £14.47 would cost you £19.15 if you are based in Europe. Another book costing £11.25 for UK customers would cost £16.77 for European customers. To my mind, this amounts to charging for delivery..... Delivery is also very slow.... we have often had to wait up to three weeks for books to reach us in Europe (while Amazon's super saver free delivery takes only 4-5 days).

I placed an order with the book depository stupidly thinking that they would physically have the book in stock to dispatch. 2 days later, it still has not been despatched. When I asked them when it would be sent I was told that they are waiting for it to come in from their supplier. Perhaps I am somewhat naive but if an item isn't in stock or they have to get it from their supplier, should they not make this clear in the description? After emailing them I was told that it is a 1-3 day wait for the book to arrive with them, plus an additional 3-5 days for it to be delivered to me. Given the fact that the book was cheaper at amazon (and had free delivery) I should have ordered it from them. But no. I ordered with the book depository as i had been hoping that it would arrive sooner. Silly me! Another bugbear! Why can't you phone them? It would be a quicker way of getting a response than waiting for someone to email you back.

Just had my second 'lost delivery' in a row - customer service do their best to 'placate' me, but the fact remains that orders are just not delivered and we are left disappointed. Two friends in my community have also not received part or all of their orders recently and the local Post Office even roll their eyes when we ask if there are any items from the book depository. Such a shame because its a fabulous website but it just doesn't deliver ! (excuse the pun)

I am so disappointed with the quality of customer service at Book Depository. This is my on-going saga with them: I had ordered a pre-order release of a book for USD6.74 which I paid for via Paypal. The book was scheduled to be released on 27 Nov 2012 so when 30 Nov rolled around with no news from them, I emailed [email protected] to enquire on the status of the book. On 1st Dec, someone from Book Depository emailed back and informed me they had successfully cancelled and refunded me as I had requested! There was no such thing, as I merely enquired on the status!! Meanwhile I had received an automatic email notification that the book I had ordered had been released and was on its way to me.I quickly replied the customer service advisor, telling him/her NOT to cancel my order and refund me..I just want the book! But according to Book Dep, it was too late; the order had been cancelled and if I want the book I have to order it again!! But the new price for the released book is USD8.02 so I asked whether they could honour the original USD6.74 since the mistake was theirs. Also, where was the USD6.74 gonna be refunded to i.e. my Paypal account or to my credit card attached to the Paypal account? I’m then told that their “service provider” is unable to refund me so they will send a cheque. BUT, a USD6.74 cheque will incur a loss for me after undergoing rate conversion and bank charges (I reside in Malaysia) so a cheque sent to me all the way from the UK (if it even arrives at all) is not feasible to me financially, so I request they just keep the USD6.74 and send me the book. And book depository cannot even do a simple thing like that! Why can’t they just take the USD6.74 which is already in their hands, and send me the book? (Payment for the pre-order release was made via Paypal in Feb 2012, so I don't think Paypal is holding onto the money for clearing purposes. My credit card had also been charged with the payment in Feb itself. This means Book Depository definitely has received my money.)

I ordered through amazon and it took them 3 days to even dispatch my pruchase. I ordered multiple items from amazon and even items that amazon were selling with a stated 2 days extra delivery time arrived before the book dep order. I contacted them to cancel the order and then they got themselves in gear. In all it took 6 days to arrive which yes you cant grumble about, its just the 3 days to dispatch is a joke and shows how lazy they are. Also i noticed after looking at other sellers they charge alot more on p&p than others which actualy makes any savings you thought you made miniscule or actualy more exspensive! So I will not be using again no matter how cheaper looking their products are.

I ordered a book from here despite reading quite a few recent negative reviews. Even though it was at a higher price I didn't mind because it said dispatched within 48 hours and they offer free delivery. I asked them if they were definitely able to get the book and they replied very quickly and said that they were and that it would be dispatched shortly. However after waiting 3 days the book still hadn't be dispatched and when checking the title on their website i noticed that the dispatch estimate had changed to within 4 dsys which they hadn't let me know. I waited another 2 days then emailed them to ask when it would be despatched and they replied (quickly) with: we wait 1-3 day sfor delivery from our supplier your book will be dispatched to you shortly and that if I wished to cancel this order I could before it was dispatched. I then cancelled my order and was told I would be issued a refund within which would show up in my account in 1-3 days. It has now been 4 days and I still haven't got the money back. I definitely wouldn't use the book depository again as I have a problem with the fact that they take the money before dispatching the book to you and don't really like the fact that you can't contact them by phone. The stars I've given are for the quick and polite replies I received from customer service. Also I managed to order the book for cheaper from amazon.com (i live in the uk) even including delivery from the us to the uk.

Prices - A+ Communication - A+ Delivery Speed - A Packaging - F I have been buying from the Book Depository for a while now and although the prices are the best on the internet i am stopping my orders from them. I order graphic novels and a lot of them at that so although it is beneficial to my wallet ordering from the Book Depository the condition that some of the books arrive in is a disgrace. I have received books with the covers all creased and folded, books very badly bashed and books that quite frankly look as though they have been put through a fight with Mike Tyson. I will give credit where it is due the Book Depository always replace them but still due to the ridiculously flimsy packaging which offer no protection to the books it is always a lottery which kind of condition the books will arrive in. I have phone on numerous occasions trying to explain that if the would just package my books in the cardboard packages rather than those bubble wrap envelopes there would be no issue and i would not need replacements but they refuse too change. They must be making a fortune if they can afford to replace books and just tell you to keep the damaged one or give you half your money back. At the beginning it didn't really bother me that much as i didn't know how serious i was about collecting Graphic Novels but as time wore on i realised i loved it but i just isn't beneficial to me to continue to shop with a company who really doesn't take any pride in how your books arrive to you. As you can see the Book Depository does a lot well but what good is saving a pound or two off the price of your books if your books aren't in a good condition when they arrive? The problem is that if you continue to get damaged books then when you continue to phone and complain then it's inevitable that they will eventually think you are up to no good and trying to score free books. It isn't fair on the consumer because even though you offer to send the damaged books back they tell you that they can't sell damaged books. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on and alhough it may not be a big loss for a company the size of the Book Depository my £200-£300 per month can be spent with a company who will take pride in how my orders reach me. After all you wouldn't accept a pair of damaged shoes or clothes you bought online. I would recommend the Book Depository to someone who isn't really to concerned in what condition their books reach them but if you take pride in your collection like i do i really couldn't say with any confidence that you should order from the Book Depository. Bookdepository cancel the order and refunding - so they only kept my money for four monhts. I pre-order cheapest book and now I can't pre-order this book elsewhere, but I can order this same book Bookdepository's full price. This wasn't a first time. I don't understand this kind of business. Sorry my bad english.

go back into your web site unable to locate the book I just ordered? It took me more than 15 minutes to finally see what had happened.

I placed my order on August 26th and did not get my book until September 14th. In this day and time, 19 days is ridiculous!! Order from Barnes and Noble or Amazon and at least get your book in a reasonable time frame!

I used to recommend The Book Depository to everyone I knew. And as long as your order is in-stock at the time of your order and arrives safely, it was a good value for money. However, if your book is not available or takes too long to arrive and you request cancellation of the order, there is a risk that you may not get your order or your money back. I ordered a book (I'd literally already ordered dozens of other books without incident before), and it was advertised as

(review continued): it was advertised as "coming soon." Well, after 6 weeks, there was still no progress, and I learned from another site that it was actually out-of-print.
I requested a credit to be used towards the purchase of another book I'd seen that was in stock. No go. They don't do that. They offered to cancel my order instead and credit the VISA card I'd used to buy it. Trouble was, the VISA was a gift card that I'd already used up and thrown out. I explained this to the company and they offered to cut me a cheque for the refund instead. I agreed. Weeks passed and no cheque. On further enquiry, I learned from a different person at the company that contrary to our agreement, they'd issued a credit to my now defunct VISA gift card. They've not responded to any further correspondence from me since. This is no way to treat a return customer and vocal advocate for your company! Sadly, I won't be ordering from them again.

At this point I am pretty sure The Book Depository is A DISHONEST COMPANY, as I never received my item, and I am not sure if you have sent them! One of the books has never arrived. I am a good payer, good client, I have bought several itens from you in the past and I payed immediately, no delays, so WHY CAN'T YOU DO THE SAME, and SEND MY BOOK NOW? You don't have any other excuses. I payed for the order BDA-324-16961244099 on April 4th!!! If you were honest you would send me the missing book or reimburse my money immediately!
