“Disgrace”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GabrialOak on 05/05/2022

If I would give PDSA insurance no stars if I could. They claim not to have received my vet’s submission back in March. It is now May the 5th,so definitely not within their advertised twenty days. However, giving them the benefit of the doubt I asked my vet to resubmit the claim for my cat.The following day,I contacted PDSA to learn that they had rejected the claim on the basis that there was a pre-existing condition. I was flabbergasted that I had heard nothing for almost two months and yet in less than twenty four hours they had rejected the claim. My cat had an ear operation last year which they also rejected. This year ,in March he was ill with kidney problem and the bill was hefty. This I have also paid, expecting the company to honour the claim . Do not trust this company. They are not interested in covering your pet’s health costs.I made the mistake of expecting a charity to at least care. Nothing could be further from the truth.Avoid!!

“cheaper to go private”

★☆☆☆☆

written by firebyrd on 20/09/2019

I thought the P.D.S.A. were animal lovers yet when it comes to vaccines for all your pets and care for a second pet they charge around three times what a private vet would. seems they are more money lovers than animal lovers.

“Beware ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Krista371 on 02/02/2017

Normally an insurance policy covers costs other than agreed excess. NOT the PDSA pet insurance. If they judge that your vet is charging too much for medicines or services they will not pay. Therefore beware as you will not only be liable for excess you will also be billed for items such as Metacam, etc. You will not be made aware until you make a claim. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from any company

“You are rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by janetirwin on 19/04/2016

Spoke with the claims team for the umpteenth time on 17/03, was told they had everything they required to assess my claim and it would take 7-10 days. I have chased several times, sent emails, sms messages and no one came back to me. I then spent my valuable time on a call with them yesterday was told there was a missing invoice from the vets which had been chased 3 times. Called the vets they said they sent it at first request and had no records of any calls chasing this. Then today I got an email saying history was missing from previous vet despite the fact that I was on the call with the customer rep on the 17/03 when she confirmed the history had come through on email. The vets resent just now to the exact same email address and like magic its suddenly there this time. Had a proper reason to complain and just got fobbed off. Now told its going to take another 7-10 days. Just a rubbish service.

“Unbelievable”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BernardMcKenna120 on 23/10/2015

Being threatened with debt collectors because we didn't sign the renewal contract and cancelled our direct debit because we no longer required the insurance now we have to make phone calls that we cannot afford due to the fact that PDSA cannot see that if a renewal is not signed and direct debit is not active that the product is not desired the reason we do not wish to renew is because price went up by quite a few pound and admin charges were just ridiculous I would not recommend and will not be returning ..

“Just shoddy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TaliyahMacGregor on 10/09/2015

A claim was submitted and we received a selection of disjointed emails then one rejecting the claim, emailed asked why and no response. Found the email address head of PDSA and that email was forwarded on to a complaints department who agreed the rejection was wrong in 2 hours and that the emails sent were poor quality however these are all "standard" emails set up in the system.

“Shocking From So Called Animal Lovers”

written by Tamaraz407 on 04/06/2014

I have a 3 and a half year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Just had my renewal came through from the PDSA and has gone up by nearly £5.00 a month. I called and they advised me that it has gone up due to my dog being a year older.I told the member of staff that i think that people like me who paying for care for our animals are being hit hard. That families like myself and finding it hard financially and wished I had the opportunity to be able to take my dog to a PDSA for small donation.

“Disgusting behaviour”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Angry Barrister on 20/11/2013

Took out insurance for all my cats two years ago but each year the premium has increased by well above inflation (usually 15%). Endded the arrangements for two of my cats earlier this year but had to keep one policy open due to the cat becoming ill (first time in all our time with them). They initially refused to pay the insurance stating that I had only been with the vet for three months and my previous vet had not responded. I've actually used the same vet for 16 years so that is the first lie exposed. This week I received the new insurance quote for next year and it has increased by 131%. When challenged they said it was because my cat is high risk (1 claim in the ten years I've had him)and because he is getting old. The insurance claim for him was £400 of which I had to pay £152 (excess and age), so in essence they had to shell out £248. My premiums were £19 per month, which means I've paid £228 in premiums during the year. So, they now want close on £600 per year for insuring my cat in case they have to pay out again. This is outright piracy and I will be raising it as a complaint. A manager was supposed to contact me yesterday to deal with the complaint but s/he must be very busy dealing with others as no one has had the courtesy to come back to me. Shocking customer service and it has stopped me from considering contributing any charitable amounts to PDSA in the future.

“Disgusting customer service with PDSA animal insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 03/08/2013

My cat recently had to have an operation for a granuloma on his leg. I put in a claim and was turned down so I decided to phone for an explanation as, besides his vaccinations, my cat hasn't needed any veterinary treatment in about five years. It was saturday morning and their letter said they would be available so I phoned and was repeatedly told that they were busy and would answer ASAP for eighteen minutes. I then had to put the phone down to deal with a caller at my door. I phoned again and held ...... And held ..... And held ..... And held - for over 27 minutes. At this point, I realised that there were 2 explanations for this :- either they had so many angry people on the line wanting to sort out problems or the woman on the answer machine was the only one at work that morning. I then looked for an email address or alternative number online and unless I wanted to 'give or donate to the cause' I couldn't find one. Neither could I find a number to complain or find out the problem. Disgusting! I am a very fair person but I can't give them more than one star to rate as I feel that it is such a poor service. Once the problem is sorted, I'm cancelling the insurance and opening an account to save the premiums myself at least then I will have something put by on one side to pay towards any treatment he may need in the future,

“Ongoing battle”

★☆☆☆☆

written by leximac1 on 26/06/2013

My boxer mac is 2 and has had a couple of visits to vet for minor things which i didn't bother to claim for as by the time my £75 excess comes off it wouldn't really be worth it. In march, however, he had a severe allergic reaction to something (no idea what). His face swelled up, he had itchy spots all over body and his ears were red and itchy. He needed steroid injection and pills and also antihistamine injection and pills. His ears were so painfull from scratching that he needed sedated to enable the vet to get a good look. All this came to over £200 so I made a claim to pdsa. The vet sent a 12 month clinical history as requested on claim form but pdsa then asked for full clinical history. They eventually settled my claim after deducting £120 from it. They claimed the problem with his ears was a previous condition. It had shown on clinical history he had an ear infection in oct 2012 which was treated with antibiotics. The allergic reaction was clearly not an infection as he was not given antibiotics. They also claim the sedation was unnecessary even though my vet has told thm it was to correctly diagnose and prevent further distress and pain to mac. I have sent in another letter from my vet for my claim to be reassessed and am still awaiting reply. I will be cancelling my policy when I have the outcome of this and would not advise anyone to take a policy with pdsa pet insurance.

“Don't even bother!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Naomijade1986 on 04/11/2012

When I first took out this insurance, I thought I was getting a good deal from a well know pet "caring" establishment. I started off by paying £17.50 a month for my 4year old boxer. The next year, I was sent a letter at the time of renewal and they had bumped the price up to £35!! I had made a small claim for something so insignificant I can't even remember what it was, I rang them up about the sudden price increase and they offered me a cheaper package of £25 a month, but I had to lower his cover for the next policy down! I agreed to this on the condition they wouldn't bump it up again. Over this last year, I've not made a single claim... But this morning I received a letter from them, renewal time... £40 a month!!!! I'll be ringing them 1st thing Monday morning! I am disguisted by this company, I wouldn't recommend to anyone. I can't wait to see what excuse they come up with this time...

Piirro's Response to Naomijade1986's Review

Written on: 28/01/2013

It's shocking .... To be honest I think all companies are the same , I am experiencing the same through more than insurance ... My premiums have jumped up to £42 a month from originally £20 and will no doubt continually rise over the years . Having spoken to me vet , who says they get so many calls from customers regarding this insurance jump happening to people all the time .
It's ridiculous ... I think it's best to try and set aside a savings account for your pet and pay monthly into it ... As insurance companies are a rip off ...
My car insurance is nearly half of what my pet insurance is ...
There should b a law against it !!

“Useless rip off”

written by mrmweb on 03/10/2012

Claimed over a year ago in respect of eye injury to dog, took them 14 months to reject a claim for £227, lost items in post, requested items from our vets that they had received 3 times over, i made an official complaint, and received definitive no on the claim 10 days after, after 14 mths of total non communication, premiums doubled too, avoid like the plague!

We have just had the same, had the insurance for 8 years never made a claim until now, just a small lump on our dogs nose which was benign vets cost £450 we paid £4k into this insurance over the years, they paid the claim however just got our renewal and it doubled from £35 to £68 a month, rang for an explanation was told it's because our dog is 9 yet last year he was 8 cover was £35, they also said other people in our area have made claims ? What the hell is all that about? obviously being penalised for making a claim I may as well just put £35 in a bank account and paid myself, absolutely discussing insurances are OK if you don't make a claim, defeats the object , I would say avoid like the plague too, have cancelled with them.

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/09/2012

was insured with pdsa thinking being animal orientated it would be the best, bad mistake after making 1 claim for £118 which still hasnt been paid to my vet keep saying they havent received clinical history vet has been sent 3 times now my payments have gone from £37.24per month to £75.04 per month when phoned to ask why the big leap was advised i had made a claim (thought thats why i had insurance) and because other people in my area insured with the pdsa had also made claims so thats why my premiums were up so much cant believe this statement but phoned them twice to check and was given the same information twice

“PDSA Unfair policy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/04/2012

After agreeing with the PDSA that they would reimburse advertisement costs for my missing cat, when the claim came through they deducted 57% of the amount that should have been awarded. Following further communication, no intelligent or logical explanation has been given for this deduction, apart from 'the amount is higher than expected'. Their awards are completely discretionary and don’t even follow their own terms and conditions. Be warned.

“Impossible to contact”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RegBurns on 13/01/2012

We are insured with the PDSA, but we have found it almost impossible to make contact to make a claim. There is a non-01 phone number so I suspect that they make a profit by keeping us hanging on. Then, they don’t send out a claim form. Yesterday, 12.01.2012, I got through and asked to make a complaint. Got me! The complaints department is also too busy; can they call me back in the evening? I agreed, but, you guessed it, they never called, and have not done so today. I worry that they are going bust, and they are just playing for time.

“Insured with PDSA when my Boxer was 12 weeks old, when...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by pat612 on 05/04/2011

Insured with PDSA when my Boxer was 12 weeks old, when she was 17 weeks old my vet said the dog had a skin condition and referred to a dermatoligest. to date I have Paid out nearly £400 and the vet made two claims. PDSA continue to ask myself and the vets for a ONE YEAR HISTORY yet they know dogs date of birth 27th July, no payment made to myself, told I had £70 excess on my policy and no money due, my maths says £370 due. Biggest mistake ever made going to PDSA advise anyone to get lifetime policy with monthly payments, AND NOT WITH P.D.S.A YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
