“Not Good”

★☆☆☆☆

written by otTucker24 on 13/05/2021

Bought this bike from Direct Bikes, the starter went on fire the first time I used it, phoned them and they said they would send me a new one, this was in 2018 - I am still waiting, the exhaust screws keep snapping, the back bin light always blow (buy LED ones, they work really Good) I would not buy from direct bikes website unless you don't want any after care from them.

The old model is not euro 4 compliant after 6 months I've yet to be able to register for road use , I've spent £100's on trailer hire visits to vosa and my local motorcycle shop trying to get it registered , Be a good garden ornament but no good for road commuting which is what I purchased it for , the registration pack supplied is not worth the paper its written on and the English is extremely poor and badly copied , I ridden it about 3 miles chain thrown off and tensioners stripped locking back wheel, exhaust blows and head barrel crankcase leaking oil on vertical join , feels like big ends are going despite keeping below half throttle for running in ,

“Pioneer Nevada 125 Problems”

★☆☆☆☆

written by wyerte on 03/09/2012

Only done 400 km on it, but already having problems. Doesn't run in the rain, keeps cutting out when wet, but we returned to the garage , no fault found. Bearings on forkes failing ( yes after 400km!!!) , you can hear a grinding noise, and feels lumpy. Rust coming through on almost every part. Crome falling off. Also various bolts keep comming undone, ( eg Foot plate ) , i keep tightening them up , but they vibrate lose again. All wiring exposed , not even Taped together! Bike looks the part but its really very poorly machined, and very poor quality. I would never advise any one to buy one save up and buy a proper bike . Also only runs at 50MPH top speed. Very heavy and slow.

I totally agree with everything that has been said here. I have recently bought a Pioneer Torro 125cc and have had endless problems from day one. The latest is that the top exhaust system is falling apart, so have to get a new one at a cost of over £100. Will not even consider buying 2nd hand parts, if the new parts are so bad.

When the bike is not falling apart, it's quite a nice bike to ride, although don't expect to go over 50mph. Get full bike license and buy a larger bike.

“Pioneer Torro that sure acts like a bull!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mathmos on 20/01/2012

I purchased the Pioneer Torro 125CC as a fair priced way to get about as I am short of funds at present after being made redundant some time back. (I only cover 8 miles a day if I am lucky! I have owned this bike for just over 3 months and all I can say is if you are tempted by the stylish looks and big bike build for a 125cc don't be tempted, forewarned is forearmed!!!! These bikes are a total waste of money and will throw a catalogue of problems up from the moment you drive it away from the shop! Firstly I had only been on the bike 5 Min's before the chain started rattling very loud against the chain guard-I promptly returned it to the garage (West Coast Customs in Cleveleys)UK. The guy altered the guard and I collected it again and took it home, everything seemed fine... a week later I noticed the bike was starting to rust quite heavily around the crash bar, exhaust, and particularly around the sissy bar at the back where it developed very dark rust patches which are very difficult to remove. I purchased a very good quality bike cover that totally covers the machine all around and have used this from the very first day of ownership. I applied a Vaseline type waterproof protector to the chrome to see if this helped but the problem has got worse by the week! The stands on these bikes are total rubbish, one puff of wind and it will fall over, which it has 3 times! As mentioned above the bolts fall out ,as my right hand side footplate (foot brake side) became loose and almost fell out during riding it, this could have been very dangerous. The bolts once they have worked loose refuse to re tighten into their holders and render the footplate useless! The bike then started to develop a loud squealing noise from the from the front wheel, I again took the bike back and complained to the sales guy, he told me I needed to book it in for a service £30as he thought it needed adjusting and the brake pad at the front was probably iffy. I told him I had only done £800 miles if that and said by past experience of new bikes 1000 miles is usually a first service point after 'running in' I also then complained about the rust problem with the bike and was told that he had had another lady owner complain about the same issue, he told me it was the Blackpool weather that was to blame and there was nothing you could do to prevent this, he also reminded me how much I payed for it, I was gobsmacked he could be so rude to insinuate that because the bike was on the cheaper end of the market that I was wrong to complain after only 3 months of ownership! I told him I would expect it to last longer than a year before it starts to develop rust spots not chicken pox style rust outbreaks all over! Needless to say the bike is total rubbish and I am planning on selling it asap These bikes are shoddy, poorly made are I feel unsafe riding it. Also the gear change lever is in a ridiculous position for comfortable gear change and you have to literally throw your leg up to kick it into the gears, this has to be the worst bike for comfort, quality and reliability I have had the misfortune to purchase and I intend to take it further with pioneer and trading standards. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

I have just purchased a torro, it has done 7 Km and because it rained today, it stopped, and refused to start, footplate is bloody useless, agree that you have to throw your leg up to change to 2,3,4th, what a joke. will be contacting supplier on Monday.

“I posted a previous review for the Pioneer Nevada 125,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by arjay222777 on 27/05/2009

I posted a previous review for the Pioneer Nevada 125, which I think I should update slightly..
I've had my nevada for just over a year now, so far just about every nut and bolt in it has either rusted up, sheared off, or been replaced by me once I've spent an hour getting the refuse of the old fitting out...
My chain became ridiculously loose from stretching to the point where I couldn't set my wheel any further back and had to pop out two links to get it proper again. Although when the chain stretched in the first place it started a habit of popping off and wrapping itself around the wheel. The main result of this was it knackered the sprocket.
So once I'd sorted the chain out I went out, and my exhaust decided is was time for our relationship to end and detached itself (this had happened a couple of times previously).
Underlying these in your face problems was one which was subtly introduced and a right difficult thing to get fixed; rear brake drum lever seized up due to rust, I eventually sorted this out as well, using a mini sledge hammer and a very big vice..
It now works well, but this is only because I took a hammer to it.
Gaskets / Overheating . . .?
I took my nevada out for a ride a few weeks ago, if anybody knows the route, middlesborough to scarborough on the A19, which isn't a particularly long or harsh ride for any normal and sensible bike...
I got to the turn off I wanted, then looked down and noticed there was exhaust thoroughly pouring from the base of the cylinder, where it is attached to the gearbox. I pulled over into a lay-by and my clutch stuck and I couldn't change gear.
I got picked up and got the bike home, had a little look see and came to the conclusion that it simply overheated, being a badly made, air cooled generally rubbish engine.. However since then I've probably gone through a bottle of oil every 4 weeks or so just because now when the engine is hot it leaks oil all over the place from the base gasket.
Can't find a workshop manual anywhere for it, and don't really want to go changing it without one because it's such a budget bike..
Don't buy one unless you really, really, really, really want to learn how to pretty much build motorcycles.
I'm positive about it because I have learned a lot, but I don't think your average run of the mill, getting into biking type person wants to be left with this.
My advise is save up ( I think these still retail about £900 ), and buy Japanese, because they know what they're doing when they make anything.
There's more than a few Suzukis that are physically almost the same as this and would survive a 20-30 mile drive at around 60mph.
I'm giving it a two because it did get me to college for a year and you do look cool with a motorbike as attractive as this.....
My mudguard also smashed, and I destroyed the spotlights within three days.
But I did crash.
I have ragged it about a bit, but only once I'd discovered it would fall apart anyway.. I used to really take care of it when I got it, now it's got three wing mirrors, a stuffed toy dog, some road sign bolted to the mudguard to hold it on, some road sign holding the headlight casing together, about 5 jubilee clips surrounding my exhaust holding it to the frame, and they break due to the heat and strain on them every few weeks. Exhaust bolts have all sheared off going into the head unit, and also where attached to frame at rear.
My rear light buld needed replacing, when I took the casing off the entire unit was rusted in one big lump, I had to get a new one and my parts warranty was no good, because the shop I bought it from went into administration.
Don't buy one.
Thank for reading this.
Hope it gets some biker dads and mams to not let their kids buy one of these.. Ever.

“This bike looks good from a distance but close up you...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by swaggy on 24/11/2008

This bike looks good from a distance but close up you can pick it apart because it is cheaply made with typical low quality.
To be honest you get what you pay for and lets face it we all want something good cheap but these bikes are awful.
The engine sounds good but you want to check the weight of these bikes and see what a 125 has to pull as these bikes are too heavy for the size of the engine. The chrome is so poor on these that the bike will look like rubbish in no time at all and you are forever checking the bike and tightening up bits and bobs all the time. These bike are not worth the money and its best to get top make instead. Resale value of these bikes is next to nothing so you will just throw money away.

“Good enough to learn on but basically not for anything...”

★★☆☆☆

written by northwest200 on 21/05/2008

Good enough to learn on but basically not for anything else. Glad to get rid of mine after 2 months. You get what you pay for. Engine reliable and good torque (using the old Honda CG engine) but fake chrome on bike a disaster.
Buckles on saddle bags snap within a few times of using.... Flimsy metal buckles. Fake plastic chrome air vent....mine fell off as did rear light socket whilst riding. Pioneer wants to enter market competing with the big 4 but need to stop cutting corners. For replacement engine parts remember Honda CG... "The sellers don € t tell you that!" Parts are cheaper.

Has anyone had problem with chrome finish on the tank instrument cover? After purchasing a new cover after 7 months the chrome fell off, ruining the finish. The seller refused to replace it after ignoring many emails I sent.

To be honest quality of the chrome on these Chinese bikes is very poor compered with Japanese bikes. Make sure you use a good chrome cleaner and protector and during the winter months wipe chrome over with a lightly oiled rag.

If you mean the nuts that clamp the exhaust to the cylinder head then use a split washer and 2 nuts. These bikes are high revving and the vibration is also high so keep an eye on all nuts and bolts once a week.

I'm a sprog when it comes to bikes and fell in love with the Cruiser style 125cc. Does anyone have a good suggestion of a decent sprog safe machine as most reviews I've read on the pioneer are really quite scary?

I owned a Pioneer Navada 125cc and I have to say it never let me down. Started first and every time and although not the fastest of 125's make a good town bike. I would never call the Pioneer scary. Its a Chinese bike and cheap to buy and maintain. You have to remember that the build quality is not great compered with Japanese bikes. My suggestion would be buy the the Navada, it looks great an.d run to ride. If you want speed then go for Japanese.
