Ventnor, The Hambrough Hotel

Food excellent but the service could be compared to Fawlty Towers. It took 45 minutes sitting at our seats for a menu or bread role to be offered, only after requesting this. Our £40 bottle of wine sat accross the dining room asking to be drunk but no waiters would fill up our consistently empty glasses.

It then took another 40 minutes torequesta dessert menu & tea.

Main issue with this establishment is the front of house team appear to be summer graduates with little training or understanding of a quality dining experince. Service rushed & impersonal,what a shame.

We live in Cowes on the Isle of Wight and I wanted somewhere to take my husband-to-be for his 30th birthday. He is a chef so it is a task to find somewhere that he will not pick at. This small but lovely hotel was fantastic. All the staff were lovely and could not have been more professional and helpful. The minute we arrived we felt like we were staying in a top hotel in London.

We had a Luxury Room with a great King Size Bed and the biggest bath tub ever!

The seaviews were beatuiful and the short walk to the Spyglass Inn was great on a sunny afternoon in October.

Now on to the food - oh my god - the food was to die for. With each course and pre course, we loved it - all in all it was 5 courses and we managed to keep going right to pudding!

Now my other half knows what he likes, he is a chef at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and this can sometimes be a nightmare when we eat out as he likes everything to be perfect. My pet peeve is service - and this was great.

You must stay here - in my experience it is the best place on the Island by far!
