Value for money this is a great little kit 18 inch bass drum sounds great with both heads and no damping.Snare is what you would expect from a budget kit and personally i only use it at home.I use this kit for small pub gigs where space is ltd as i have a a late 80,s granstar kit but i enjoy the gretsch kit so much i am starting to use it more and more.I would have liked the option of no snare when i purchased the kit but hey you can never have too many snares

Gretsch Catalina Club are light and thus easy to carry. The sizes of the 4-piece Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz set are perfect for bee bop and small group jazz. The 18" bass drum sounds really good with almost no ring. The 14" by 14" floor tom also sounds pretty good. The tuning bolts are of poor quality and some are difficult to turn, especially on the snare drum. The snare drum has only 8 tuning lugs, whereas 10 is standard for better quality drums. It is nearly impossible to get a good sound out of the snare drum. The chrome has a cheap look to it. Overall, the quality looks and feels cheap. The shell tom mount holds the drum loosely by 2 tuning bolts. This kit has 30 degree bearing edges on the shells, which gives a good jazz sound with less ring and overtones than kits with 45 degree edges. The heads are all coated. The drums sound punchy or thud-like. They don't sound very loud. They would be good for a piano, bass and drums trio or other small combo playing acoustic music.
